I got the new iPod touch earlier today and have been getting used to it since then... Anyway, as promised, here is my review of the iPod touch and hope you guys enjoy it! smile.gif

Design
While it is taller than the previous version (a 4th generation), the new iPod touch is one of the slimmest and lightest ever... It felt like I was holding a chocolate or candy bar, or even a piece of ba-kua, that was how light it was!

Also, I can be assured that the rear will be fingerprint-free as it is of a metallic aluminum type, compared with the shiny mirror of the 4th generation... Of course, my concern is the fact that the new touch may scratch easily and as such, a casing is a must, when they become available in the Malaysian Resellers soon.

Display
The 4" retina display is the sharpest one yet, for any iPod touch. The colors look very crisp and clear, making it very easy to view, including small text. Which means that for gaming, this will be one heck of a great experience seeing the graphics in extra-sharp quality!

Camera
This is THE main reason I went for the new iPod touch, i.e. the 5.0mp iSight camera. The one on the previous iPod touch was a letdown, with grainy and blurry images, and while I haven't fully tested the new touch's camera, I did try the Panorama mode and it was amazing to see how the pix was combined by merely moving it from left to right.

At the same time, images taken in fluorescent light are clear and when it comes to zooming in, the photo still looks sharp and without the obvious pixels (as with the 4g iPod touch). I will update this review when I fully utilize the camera with the excellent Camera+ app, with its various photo-editing modes (including Food, Sunset, Beach, Portrait, and Backlit).

Speed
When compared with the 4th generation, the new iPod touch is like a Formula One car racing against a modified road vehicle, that's how fast it is. This is because the 5g touch is using the same A5 chip as the iPhone 4S, which is known for its quick response when apps are activated. Because of this chip, gaming apps now load much faster than on the 4g, and there is hardly any noticeable lag, at the same time.

Sound
Only one word I can say about this - WOW! The speakers on the new iPod touch is crystal clear and in fact, while I am writing this review, the touch is playing music and considering I have the volume at around 75%, it can be heard throughout the room.

And unlike the 4g touch's speakers, which are located in the same place as the sync slot, the new model's ones are separate from the Lightning slot. This results in sharper sound quality as it is no longer constrained by the "four walls" of the sync slot and the sound can blare out without obstruction.

Lightning port
One of the most noticeable changes of the iPod touch (other than the design) is the sync slot. While we have grown accustomed to the previous Dock connector with its 30 pins, the one for the new iPod is a Lightning-type with only 8 pins. The convenience of the Lightning connector is that you can actually slot it both ways, i.e. they are the same either side. This helps prevent the situation whereby the room is dark and you cannot see whether the Dock is at the correct side or not, before connecting.

However, the inconvenience comes when you want to connect your iPod with existing devices using the Dock. No fear about this, as Apple also sells the Lightning-to-30-pin adapter that acts as a "liaison" to ensure you can still pair your iPod with speakers or third-party charging cradles, for instance.

Conclusion
The new iPod touch comes highly recommended for anyone intending to go for the no. 1 entertainment + gaming device in the market today, whether a first-time Apple user or even iPhone customer. This is the most significant improvement yet, to the iPod touch, and what a change it has been!

Not yet, unfortunately... Almost ALL of the Resellers I went to carry only those for the iPhone 5 but some do have limited choices for the iPod touch... They should be bringing in more items by month's end though! smile.gif

Hahaha, thank you... Changed to one of the KL skyline already though, after taking some shots with it the other day!

And as for jailbreak, AFAIK, the new iPod touch cannot be JB'ed yet... But even if it can, I won't be doing so due to warranty issues, just like all of my other previous iPods...

Mine was ordered online via the Malaysian Apple Store... And as for battery life, I'm still testing the duration with games, internet, photo-taking, as well as my usual work stuff... I just got the unit charged today and will commence the testing afterwards! smile.gif

nice review bro, im a current user of iPod Touch 4th Gen deciding whether to upgrade and i've got to admit that the 5.0mp iSight is one of the biggest motivator right now so i look forward to your updates with Camera+
i wonder if it will capture pictures in the same quality as iPhone 4 or 4S

i've seen quite a few cases which claimed to be designed for iPhone 5..so the iPod 5 should be not far away..i wonder if the screen protector for iPhone 5 can fit that of this iPod Touch

i've a 8gb Black 4th Generation to let go should i decide to purchase the 5th Gen so i was wondering if any of you guys know the rough estimated market price for it. Used around 1 year, well maintained no front scratches, minor smudge on back and never dropped nor jailbroken nor engraved.

Thanks in advance

Hey bro, the iPhone 5's screen protector is exactly the same size as the touch but the only difference is at the top... While the iPhone 5 has a receiver, the protector will cover the touch's front-facing camera, which shouldn't be much of an issue... As for cases, I went to the [i] Store at Level 1 of Digital Mall (previously at Level 3, just below All IT) and they only have the iPhone ones, and are unsure when the iPod touch cases will come in, although it could be as soon as next week...

And you have an 8GB 4th generation touch? I'm not too sure what the present market value is, but you can check out the similar offerings in the Garage Sales in order to roughly estimate the selling price... Btw, did you purchase any AppleCare extended warranty? That should be able to get your selling price marked-up slightly! smile.gif
