Not so powerful but performance-wise, acceptable. Dophin C-1600, powered 50Hz-45w. Bought in June 2009 by rm250. Operating since date of purchase until i changed to sump tank filtration. Still in good condition till now, keeping it for future project. Bro, hob better or submersible better? Okay i found a useful website to explain this, here ![]() QUOTE This system is considered the best among other filtration systems. Sump filter is a filtration system using a tank to 2 with the small size of the place it under the main aquarium table . Small aquarium serves as a filter box. The main tank should be perforated before the paired pipe to drain water to the tip of a small tank underneath that clean water will then be returned back to the main tank with the engine powerhead. By relying on gravity, the system is able to suck up dirt from the bottom. Sump filter is very easy to cleanbecause is situated within easy reach . To maintain the beauty of the aquarium, pools / table aquarium can be closed so that the tank filter is not visible underneath. Yes it requires tubing or piping works. But thats how it can be fun and interesting. Pipe as u wish, size as u want. U can even use normal garden hose as tubes, but i suggest PVC pipes. Combination of few materials can add to the excitement as well. |

Haha. 3ft tank dont need that so complicated folter riteee? Haha. Actually, its very easy. U can even use submersible pump with ur top filter. The principle is same with ur top filter powerhead pump, only with greater power. Usual powerhead pump for top filter is usually about 18w (which pumps about 1250L/hour), while submersible pumps are way more powerful. When my mom bought her 4' aquarium, it comes with 1800L/hour pump. Later she complained the water got cloudy very fast, until i changed the more powerful pump (60w, 3000L/H, see pic below) and she was happy with the performance. I keep her old pump for future project. Sometimes i used it to drain water from my tank, still a lot faster than natural syphon ![]() |

QUOTE(Jay Chua CC @ Jan 27 2013, 11:17 PM) Yes, the fish pellets will be suck to the pump if the pump capable to suck it in. Buy a pump that has 5-6 times turnover rate for your tank volume. This is just a general rule, as there are many factors we need to consider like the height of the tank, the volume of the filter box and etc. Too high flowrate of the pump will only better for mechanical filtration but may not help in biological filtration and might cause overflow. |
