It's based on a curve that changes every year. Just work hard, if you can get 90+ in trials etc. you're good to go.

it may not be, but unless you target high, you may not get it. There's no set mark benchmarks for grades in SPM, it all goes according to a curve on how the whole country is doing. Some subjects have higher benchmarks then others and some lower then others. A subject that lots of people do well in will have a higher mark and subjects which lots of students don't do so good in will have a lower benchmark, if you want to get for everything, you're best bet is to try and be the best. You might end up getting the kijang emas if you work hard enough.

After all, it all comes to the overall performance of the candidates on that particular subject.
What you can do at this point of time is to score as much points as you can and not to worry about the percentile of A+.
Good luck and all the best.

Please la, just do the best that you could and aim for the best. Don't waste your time thinking about this stuff.

Doubt it's that high esp for additional mathematics and english.

In fact, most of the SPM student getting A+ for their English is nothing impressive.

Depends on the graph. They change the graph according to how students perform overall if i'm not mistaken.

during my time, more than 2 decades ago, it was very difficult to score an A1 for Add Math; min 95% to get A1, and min 90% for A2.

now it's 75% for A+? really? blink.gif

Ppl should ask why the bell curve is used in the 1st place. Most assumed its depends on the score majority gets. Well, that's not entirely true.

U see, questions defer from year to year, obviously. But there is no indicator to determine whether this year questions are equally hard or equally easy as last year and the years preceding it. So the easiest way is to introduce a curve where it implies, statistically, that all populations are equally clever (or stupid!), and that thereason why ppl couldnt score this year is bcoz he queations are harder.

So to compensate for the harder questions, the graphs are lowered; if easier, then increased. But for each subject, there are absolute minimums. It will never go lower than that point. Just exactly how low is that for each subject? Nobody outside lembaga peperiksaan really knows.

Yea,Add maths is really low for a A+..
I'm surprised at the English mark for A+ as well.
Our msian english standard is so low already, and yet the A+ requirement is still so low.

Actually, nobody is sure. The curve, the data, everything changes every year, so it is not possible to tell.

Based on statistics made by sec school teachers, if you get the following marks in your school exam, you should (probably) be able to get A+.

BM-72
BI -80
MM -88
Add Maths -70
Physics - 70~75
Chemistry -70
Biology -80
PM -92
Sejarah - 70

72 for BM but 80 for English? I thought that BM was harder to score an A+ in compared to English...

Technically, the number of people getting A+ in BM for my school is 3 times more than that of English.

For BC, I don't think it is possible to make an estimate, considering that nearly nobody got an A+.

I see. In my school A+s in BM are extremely rare, whereas A+s for English are a dime a dozen.

Again, during my time, more than 2 decades ago, there were very few ppl who scored distinctions in BM (my school was a missionary school) compared to those who scored distinctions in English and English 1119 (O Level)! blush.gif

I bet if this year's SPM students were to sit for the same English paper I did long time ago, very very few would score distinctions...... brows.gif

This must be a very nice trick . It doesn't make sense at all . Also , it's very similar to the previous baselines .

A+ for English = 90 ?

Impossible .

Why impossible? Last year many good students could not get A+ for SPM English.

82 for chemistry by pengarah peperiksaan SPM. Our teacher ask him, anyone that say you need at least 90 to get A+ is bullshitting unless they say 90 guarantee A+ then it is correct. Chemistry 9 marks pass, can you believe it ?

A+ is 90 but percentile drops depending on the grading curve. If just say mandarin the a+ will be very high cause you know la... English est and math in my private school, we competed among each other who can finish fastest to exit the exam hall. For English we all finished in 25 min and all of us get a+ so it varies and only the board of education know the grading curve
