hey guys, want to ask, is it possible to mod my CM quickfire and add backlighting to it?? thanks
*
Without pre-drilled holes and circuit it will be a lot more works to do.

If you still interested, it will be:
1. Removing the switch from the steel plate and PCB(not needed if you manage to separate the PCB from steel plate without removing the switch).
2. Separate the PCB from steel plate
3. Planning whether you want to drill holes on PCB or do the jump wiring in between PCB and steel plate, whichever more applicable.
4. Inserting LED into the switch
5. Wiring, insulating, testing

For details you may ask the member - Bai101. He did some BL mod on his non-BL Flashget.

I think what forummer Bai did was putting in LED strip instead of LED bulb into each switch..

nevertheless, there's 2 way you can do it.

one is using the LED strip, and the another is taking the whole keyboard apart and solder on LED to each switches.

that would require you electrical knowledge and skills.
*
He put in individual LED IIRC.

You can clearly see in his picture that there are individual LEDs underneath the keycaps.
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry56049469

Also, do notice that led mod on non-bl kb had a unsolvable problem, that is the LED will be at the bottom part(of switch) instead of top part of normal BL-kb.

what does that mean being on the bottom?
*
Take a look at the picture in my post above. You will see that the LED is at the bottom(plane view) of the keycaps.

For normal bl-kb, the switch is inverted to make those LED mounted at top(plane view) of the keycaps.

I mentioned it because the legends on BL keycaps are normally at the top part. Since you are not using a backlit keycaps, it won't matter much actually.

Hey guys, I'm planning to get a mechanical keyboard and well, I've only done surveys on mechanical keyboards online so.. they all seem really expensive and out of my price range.. so my question is what is the cheapest mechanical keyboard I can find around? It doesn't necessarily have to be a gaming one. Hope I get good answers

Thanks
*
Mind if not Cherry MX switch?
Mind 2nd hand?
Mind China brand(no local warranty)?

Expected. The 1st moment I saw the internal of K60/90, I am looking for the chance to mod it into full mechanical.

The hardest part for me I think is to make the original rubber dome holes bigger to fit in Cherry MX switch.

A mistake may ruin the whole board.

oh, in terms of build quality then?

yeah, i do know the existence of the rubber dome for the function and macro keys, but from what i read online, the build quality is superb. its like one of the better reviewed 'gaming' mech keyboard.
*
My personal experience with test unit of K60 is quite good. Just that the rubberdome is more than enough to kill the deal I will say.

BTW, some GHackers are saying that Corsair K60/90 is a bad and problematic boards, both hardware and softwarely. Details I am not sure but I don't think there will be much Corsair haters/bashers out there(except spies from competitors may be, LOL), so it must had its reason behind.

It may be awkward as some keys you can hardly find replacement. You can only partially change them.

Added on November 24, 2012, 10:28 ammind to know what design mean/look like.

btw zero is pcb or plate mount?
*
+1, the cheapest backlit board should be Keycool 87 backlit version, for the time being(heard that Deck is striking back in China market with doubleshot PBT keycaps brows.gif )

If you can even consider self mod boards, then it will be plum 96. Plum 96 cost around RM200 for the board itself(another RM20 for shipping), and buying 100+ 3mm 3V LED cost less than RM10. Later, go to your local electrical repair shop and pay them RM20 get the job done, only if don't know how to do it yourself. It is achieved within RM250.
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....&id=18340544429

The Mandarin words mean that this time ducky come up with no detectable cable on it(probably to cut cost), but that is more favorable option in GH as they are paranoid that detectable cable is more prone to fail.

Should be plate mounted, as Ducky never made non-plate mounted board b4.

Wow, a newcomer with his 1st post contributed to this thread, haha. biggrin.gif

If you mean where to source for mech kb, it is available in those major and larger retail stores in KL/Selangor. Alternatively, go Garage Sale and search around for online sellers.

ya backlight keycap is nothing rare already so many option at tabao.. but too bad no have raw versi if sure fun to play DIY

keycool backlight out already?

if ducky zero really come 200 here he will be my next modify victim... /gg
*
Actually, there isn't much backlit keycaps out there(I mean the real back painted and lasered white keycaps). But all of them doesn't attract me a single bit because they are all coated/painted, which will eventually fade/worn.
Thats why I opted for KBC clear jelly POM keycaps, they are translucent enough and have nothing to worn.

What RAW version are you discussing about?

Keycool backlit out there for a long time already. IIRC, they even having compact backlit board similar to layout of Deck/TG3.
Seems like all their boards(layouts) are now having backlit variants.

LOL, why mod a keyboard with local warranty?

Added on November 24, 2012, 3:05 pmLOL wut? Keycool come out with a numpad, but the price...
Backlit clear switch
Normal

I will opt for Filco's first at this price range... sweat.gif
