I'm not much into OCing or extreme cooling but I was wondering if anyone is aware of the possibility on using an Aquarium Water Chiller in a Water Cooling setup...

The subject came about because I'm selling my chiller and a friend just threw this suggestion to me... however since I can't find such a setup on this forum I thought it would be a good topic for discussion...

I've read up online on DIY WC by cannibalising parts from a fridge.

So whats an aquarium chiller?

It's basically setup like an aircon with a compressor, fan and heat exchange element typically titanium. Aquarium chillers in general are used for marine (aka saltwater setup) to chill and lower the water temprature so that fish and coral can thrive.

Aquarium Chillers can range anywhere from 1/8hp to 1hp and can cool water temp several degrees below room temp.

Examples of chiller brands are Resun, Teco, Articoo...

What do OC taiko's/brothers think it's feasable/possible?

Normally chillers price around RM1k and above... I purchased mine for nearly RM1.5k...

Try looking at http://www.myfish.info for second hand chillers that can cost RM500 and above... chillers are usually used by aquarium hobbyist...

As for fans yes there are fans in chillers and depending on manufacturer/model/load the noise can be anywhere from silent to irritating (ie the don't keep this is your bedroom type noise)

100HP chiller you sure onot can cool an entire building wif 100HP...

Dun submerge it after spoil... there is an inlet and outlet for chillers so if you got a pump connect it to the inlet and the cold water will come out of the outlet...

Yup it's got potential to cool better than just a regular water-cooler with a fan and radiator...

Chillers already have an heat exchanger, fan and radiator and temp controller built in so I guess in theory potential adopters just need a reservoir, pipes, pump, waterblock... and some ingenuity to put it all together.

Chillers can cool the water temp up to 15deg below room temp... which is an advantage IMHO... the built in temp controller will regulate the water temp so the chiller only kicks in when the water gets too hot and switches off once the desired temp is reached.
