Even though EURO has dropped today, all money changers are still maintaining last weeks rates. Crap!

QUOTE(stimix @ Nov 10 2010, 10:20 AM) If 4.28 is the current market rate & so do Bank Negara current rate of 4.266, meaning EURO also not well traded here in M'sia. I dont think so. See my calculations below:And infact converting EURO locally is bad idea giving the current wawasan rate of 4.315. Much better change to US$ 1st & thereafter switch to EURO once arriving at destination country. RM$ 10,000 to USD to Euro RM10,000 = US$ 3,236 (based on exchange of 3.09) US$3,236 = Euro$ 2,297 (based on exchange of 0.71) RM10,000 to Euro RM10,000 = Euro$ 2,317 (based on Wawasan exchange of 4.315) |

Wawasan is still refusing to bring down rates for the Euro. Even though Euro is trading at 4.19 on XE, Wawasan is still maintaining 4.22. previously the difference between their rates and XE was only about 0.01

QUOTE(stimix @ Dec 1 2010, 03:10 PM) All those currency converter just show the best of the best which is impossible to get in any Money changer in malaysia-lah...The best yardstick to get the real rate are from Money changers themselve and the only benchmark i can find from the net is Wawasan Not really true. When i worked overseas, i used to change foreign currency everytime i came home for holidays. On my occasions, i have obtained better rates than even XE. Too bad Wawasan no longer the cheapest in town already...lost its glories Let me share this info. There is no such thing as 'cheapest money changer'. The rates are always dependent on 2 factors: 1) the standings of that money changer in the hierarchy of their credit line meaning the higher they are to the top the better the rates as commission levels are smaller 2) the amount of the particular currency traded and the amount of stock available Thats why u will see some money changers having better rates for 1 currency while having poorer rates for other currencies. For instance, if you monitor Wawasan ull see that his Euro rates are quite competitive even when u compare against money changers at The Curve, KL Sentral, Masjid India and 1U. But his UK Pound rates for instance are quite poor compared to these other places. So u need to choose money changers based on the currency you wish to trade. Always scout around as the 2 factors mentioned above will change over time. For me, i have a network of about 12 money changers which i will use to compare currencies before purchasing. |

QUOTE(stimix @ Dec 1 2010, 04:05 PM) You have your point but so far in KL, I can't find any money changer sreally marked to market. Except certain well traded currencies such as US$, SG$ & Rupiah. Others not even close to the market rate for eg..Thai baht, Taiwan $, Riel, Dong & more.. Of course its common knowledge that well traded currencies will get better rates. Those are badly traded currencies due to what you mentioned above & therefore almost impossible if comparing to the yahoo & XE link |

QUOTE(cutepooh @ Dec 1 2010, 09:21 PM) hi all...for japanese yen, is it better to directly chg from RM to Yen or to USD 1st like most of the currencies? Isnt it always better to change directly rather than do an indirect change and pay more commission?went to 1u jus now to ask for the rate or RM10k..they only gave a discount of RM0.01...hmm where else has better rate? |

What's the best available rates in KL / Selangor for USD today? If the rates are good, I might buy about USD20K.
