Anyone got a DW Scyther (F) with at least 31's on Atk/Speed/HP for trade? I can catch you an European Ditto with close to perfect IVs if you want (Good if you're trying to RNG for shinies).

Also after two days of messing with the RNG, I've managed to find the right times for my timid Latios shakehead.gif

I know the feeling. It took me 1 whole day to calibrate my DS and find the timer0.

The concept is very simple. All computing randomization follows pseudo-random distributions. What this means is that some variable is used to generate the initial seed for your future random rolls. So in this case, Pokemon B/W2 uses a few things to generate your timer0 (which is the initial seed) - your 3DS/DS's MAC address, the DS type, the language used and the game version.

Lets say your timer0 is a. If you start your game at exactly a certain date and time, the first encounter on a certain frame will guarantee that a pokemon has x/y/z IVs. This is calculated by your timer0 (the initial seed used to generate all the other random stuff).

Its quite complicated, but in essence, RNG allows you to encounter pokemon with any combination of IVs you want by using that initial seed because all things in computing are not truly random and thus are predictable to some degree (via the algorithm used).

If its super complex, follow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYSHAga0Q3Q

You have to be very patient though because the timer0 for Black/White 2 randomizes between 3 values, so lets say I start my black 2 at exactly 5:01pm on the 8th of Febuary 2012 (your DS clock), and fight latios immediately, I will always get one of three IV combinations. This is guaranteed so long as its down to the exact second.

EV training is easy. 4 EVs = +1 to the pokemon's stats on the summary screen. You can have a max of 510 EVs total and 254 in a single EV (but obviously you want it divisible by 4)

If you kill a Pidgey, you get +1 to your Speed EV so lets say you want to increase your speed by 10 points; you would need to kill 40 pidgeys or whatever other combination of pokemon which give the EV you need.

oo okay for example i know killing Lilipup or Patrat raises attack EV by 1 correct.
but at what level should i concerntrate doing this?
do they get the same amount of EV if i switch them out of battle?
sorry for noobish questions. just recently found out about these stuff.

If I'm not mistaken, as long as they get EXP they get the EV, so even if you EXP share they will get the EV. Have to be careful or else you might accidentally get the wrong EVs or miscount..

Focus on beating them game before you start to think about working on your competitive team. You also want to figure out the team you're running, the metagame tier you're going to play in (http://www.smogon.com/bw/metagames/) and so forth. From there, you should learn how to RNG (if you're using a real 3DS and real cart and not jacksparrowed one tongue.gif) for IVs before working on EVs. This is especially important for those one of a kind pokemon like Genesect and Latios :/

IVs are very important, arguably more important than EVs (because EVs can be adjusted using berries biggrin.gif). The difference in my Espeon attacking a sub-optimal Latios versus a near perfect Latios is almost 20% off its HP when I Shadow Ball. If its a critical on a lousy Latios, confirm OHKO whereas the perfect Latios would survive the critical hit.

IVs also affect the Hidden Power type you get, so for sweepers like Latios, you want HP:Fire and would need a combination of 31/6/31/30/30/31 IV to get HP:Fire..so yeah haha.

Don't worry about it biggrin.gif I used to be a newbie until I fought some Japanese guy's dragonite on DPp and got OHKO'ed LOL. After that I went and tried to figure out why and learned about stuff like IV/EV wink.gif

Anyway to stress it, do NOT catch any one-of-a-kind Pokemon until you can RNG for perfect stats or the combination you need to make it competitive. I screwed up my Latios when I forgot about the Hidden Power type and now I need to make adjustments to my team to account for Scizor counters. sad.gif

tl;dr: Perfecting Pokemon is just for competitive use lah. If you're a casual player, don't waste time unless you're super masochistic and want to spam chatot cries all day long..

There's nothing to be confused about. Pokemon are like humans. Each person is born different. Maybe your nose will be longer or eyes bigger or you'll be taller. That's genetics.

IVs are the "genes" of pokemon. They can be 0~31 for all 6 stats and they affect the stats of the Pokemon.

whoa... suddenly this thread turns into 'real' discussion tongue.gif
anyway, in building your team, check whether your team is for lvl 50 or lvl 100 battle.... since the effective IV/EV will halved on lvl 50...

100's less of a hassle haha. My Latios with Soul Dew has 303 SpA without any EVs brows.gif course that's in OU, so I have to compensate by using Choice items.

By the way, anyone got any idea why I'm missing 1 SpA on my Latios' stat sheet? I'm 100% sure I killed 20 Litwicks (5 SpA) but my SpA went up from 202 to 206 only. The 12th EV did not give me any SpA to my Latios' sheet.
