Oh boy...

Farming gold has to be the most boring thing ever. Kinda regret not saving up earlier.

Anyways, I decided to share my style of farming with you, since I can't be bothered to do it like everyone else. This is useful for members of the Allicance, members of the Horde have loads of guides online.

Please bear in mind that my method relies heavily on the AH, so if you're looking for CASH ONLY methods, you would be better off elsewhere. Also, the style of grinding is AoE.

So here's what I do. First, go to deadmines. Go to that area where they have those undead miners (they're not in the instance). Kill them all using AoE. Be careful not to pull too many at a go, the have dynamite that can really hurt you, even at level 39. 5 at a go should be ok.

Once they're all dead, head on down to raven hill. Along the way, you'll find many gnoll camps to your right. Go nuke a few camps along the way for some good linen drops. They also have chests all over the place, so do have a look. Do remember that mana and health pots sell well in the AH, so grab those as well.

Once at raven hill, go down to the catacombs and kill all those ghouls. They drop silk and 1s on average. Also, tomb dust seems to sell well on the AH, if you get them that is.

Also, if your a skinner like me, you can go and kill those nightbane whatever slightly further down and skin them. They're cool because they're humanoids that you can skin. So they drop cash, AND you get more cash for selling their leather.

By now, your bags should be full of linen, wool and silk, couple bits of ore/stone, leather and a bunch of random greens. Bounce on over to the nearest AH and hawk them all. As for the greens that you know won't sell well, for example a staff that has +str +agi, or a chestplate that has +spr +int, disenchant them and sell that instead.

So here's to hoping your gold farming doesn't get too boring. I might try farming instances next, like Stockades and maybe DM. I'll let you know how fruitful that is.

sell whatever you don't need. if it can be sold on the AH, sell it there as you will make more money than vendoring it. do check from time to time what can be sold on the AH. if you are unsure of what prices to put, search for that items and list it according to what the average is on the AH.

don't wait til you are level 35 to start saving for mount. start from the very beginning. that way you don't have to waste time farming but can spend that time on grinding. i didn't spend my money on anything and when i reached level 40, i had around 110g. and i was power leveling.

btw INFeRNO, you talking from the POV of a mage i suppose. not everybody plays mages and can AOE.

*update: post pone ur plan to get ur mount to about lvl 44. then u can go south of feathermoon feralas, and farm the nagas in the cave there. it has a lot of mithril also, they can nett u to around 30-40g per hour. once ur lvl 55, things gets even better. farm those warpwood elementals in felwood, and u can sell off living essence for 70g per piece (my server price). on average cash grinding on felwood is about 50-70g per hour for me.

when u hit level 38++. go farm elementals at arathi highlands / badlands and sell off those vendor trash. or u can go hit dustwhisker gorge for mines + silk.
going to solo instrance is always a bad idea if u want cash. (espec after SM nerf).

Take up mining / skinning, and sell those stuff in AH. I was grinding the whole way from lvl 1 (and did all instances too for blues). and i got about 200g when i hit 40. when i hit 50 i already have enough gold to buy my epic mount, plus a krol blade.

all these is done with a rogue. if ur a mage, i gguess power AoE WPL or EPL ghouls or Dire maul would be good if u can get a priest to help.

Tried farming the stockades, didn't work out. They have way too much HP (2000+) for me to AoE them. I think for farming purposes, people would be better off as a fire/frost mage, as opposed to arcane/fire, which is the route I took.

I enjoy WoW too much to want to grind or farm all the time. It's fun to quest with people, talk crap in Ironforge, and kick butt in WSG. It's rather unfortunate that I haven't managed to save up enough for a mount, but I'm at 75g now, and should have 100g by the end of the week.

BTW, the method I described above should get you close to 5g an hour, only problem is that you'll have to wait for it all to sell! tongue.gif Oh, and never underbid folks, it's bad for the servers' economy. smile.gif

thats what professions are for. I didn't even bother to save up, my mining/blacksmith have me earned enough to buy a mount and still have leftovers for plate equipments by the time I hit 40.

and I believe herbalism helps even more.

mining blacksmith is uber...
u can make armor n wepaon 4 urself...
n also u can use leftover minerals 2 make other armors or weapons 2 sell 2 vendors...
after all... as far as i no... minerals spawns rapidly everywhere in specific areas which u can mine massively... so plenty 2 go around...

actually of all my mining/blacksmithing life I've never made a weapon for myself, since weapons sold in the AH are always better than the ones I can make. Haha

My main income during under-40 level was from deadly bronze poniards and pearl handled daggers.
Used to be able to sell them for 3-4g each.

At past 40, Blacksmithing is just so depressing. The materials needed to make the item is worth more than the item itself. So I just made ends meet selling mats.

Never got my epic mount. sad.gif

70g a piece?! Which server are you on?

If you have 300+ fishing I would recommend to go fishing at Azshara... Look for those patches of elemental water and you can get at least 1 EoW per patch. They are quite rare but once you get the hang of it (as in, memorised the locations tongue.gif) you can earn a lot.

If there's an elemental invasion, head over immediately to farm for essences.

people talking about level 40 mount you go talk bout Tyr's hand pulak. lol.

IMO, of all 3 of the gathering professions herbalism makes the most. you can get herbs anywhere and everywhere as opposed to running along mountains & hills to look for mineral nodes. the respawn rate is the same as mining but they are much more abundant and sell faster than minerals. early levels won't sell but you can use those herbs to level your alchemy, if you took that profession up as well.
when both alchemy and herbalism are 300, both can sell well on the AH. you just have to know what is in demand to be able to make money.

70g per living essence? you've got to be kidding me!! of the 3 servers i've played on, i've never seen it sell more than 10g!

ooo... replies make me happy! tongue.gif

Anyways, we all know gathering professions make the most amount of money, and most people tend to believe that herbalism is the best one of them all. I'm a Skinner/Miner myself, and so far, it's been working out just dandy. Another way to make money is to DE stuff. A crap level 10 green may be worth 10s on the AH, but after DE it, the mats you get from them will be worth at least twice as much.

Anyways, I'm up to 85g now, so I'm busy leveling up as well, so I should hit 40 right about the same time I get 100g. Also be sure to be honoured and get the rank of sergant before purchasing your mount, it makes things cheaper.

Going dual-gathering helps out a lot. Crafting for money doesn't work out. If you craft at a normal pace (when you have the mats as opposed to intentionally going out and farming mats), your recipes will never catch up to your level. You'll be crafting stuff for several levels below you. If you want to make your own stuff, odds are you'll either have to farm like mad or hit the AH for mats... which is kinda redundant if the point behind all this is to make money. tongue.gif

I was dual gathering for 1-50ish (herbalism/skinning) and avoided buying stuff from the AH till I dinged 60. Never really ran into cash problems. And once you're 60 you can powerlevel your crafting skill (alchemy in my case) in a day or two with enough cash.

Just avoid the AH until your main is 60. It's fine for twinking your alts, but no point spending cash there if it's your first char. The items you get will only be useful for a few levels, and you'll be spending a tonne of time trying to scrap up cash for your mount/training.

Herbalism is far better than mining. People use potions like crazy, far more than they use minerals. But don't take both mine/herb cos they share the same minimap.

After herbalism pick up skinning (recommended for warlock/hunter) or enchantment (recommended for rogue/shadow priest). Skinning early on is so-so money, but when you reach 60 you can skin dragons and devilsaurs for good money. Hunters and warlocks are good for kiting those reptiles. If you shadow priest/rogue you can farm instances by killing the sub bosses and disenchanting their greens/blues.

When you have enough for epic mount + 200g, Dump your skinning/ench for alchemy. Use the 200g to up your alchemy to 300. Ever since BG came about, potions sell like f*ing crazy. Trust me.

mining doesn't sell as fast because the stuff you craft with the minerals can't be re-used, they only craft 1 of them. but people keep making pots and using them. so there is more demand for herbalism.

if you don't plan on taking up enchanting (as in continuing to level it to 300), then don't pick it up. make an alt, level it to level 5 and go learn enchanting just to disenchant stuff. send what ever greens or blue you don't want to your alt to be disenchanted. then you can either AH those stuff of or keep them to get enchant for your main.

Wool, silk, mageweave and runecloth sell well on my server, Bleeding Hollow; wool about 1g, silk nearly 2g per stacks. Apart from cloths, herbalism is good, or disenchanting items and selling the mats if you're not going to up enchanting. Skinning is also good, 1 stack of light leather can reach 1g also for light leather.

Or doing the VC instance, every run can get about 2g at least for items (greens and blues), not counting the cloths. biggrin.gif

Wow, nice prices. On my server, silk goes for ~1g, wool goes for ~60s, and linen goes for ~45s. And linen sells quick too, often getting bought a few mins after putting it up smile.gif

I think it's official: Herbalism is the best profession out there. Stuff sells like crazy, and you can pair it up with Alchemy to get useful pots for yourself, or sell it on the AH. Next time I make a new toon, I'm definitely going this route.

Another place I found that you can farm a little over 1g and hour is Dun Modr. Those dark iron dwarves often have over 3s on them, and they have silk, AND they drop decent greens. Not too hard to kill them as well, since they nicely spaced out.

The SM courtyard have some level 30 - 31 elites that pack about 5s per kill if your lucky, but I had to take a mana break after killing each one, so it was kinda slow moving for me.

Don't forget, 10% discount on mount prices if you are honored with your home faction. And another 10% if you are a Sergeant. Managed to get the mount at level 40 with mining and skinning so it's not TOO hard.
