thank you. Btw, you are getting Note II from Maxis too, right? Maybe can meet up next week chit-chat a bit while queuing up at Maxis Centre. laugh.gif Most probably i will go to the Taman Molek branch. JB Danga Bay branch always very slow in servicing customer. doh.gif

I just recieved very attractive offer from Alieamin SME set. Sorry cannot revealed his price but a sizeable discount from 2299
I supposed his regular buyers got it too
*
i think that is in view of the low price of AP now. If they debut it at high price, harder to sell. If SME price can go down to around RM2k, will reconsider contract with Maxis.

My plans (estimation based on S3 offer) :
1. Buy RM1,000 from Maxis, sign up 2 years contract for RM30 call + RM68 3GB data. Total cost for 2 years=RM3,352.
2. Buy RM2,100 free of contract - use existing RM50 1.5GB data + RM10 call (pay as you use). Total cost for 2 years=RM3,540.

Plan 1 more worth as for the same price, there is 3GB data and more calls can be made. But for Plan 2, i can upgrade to Note III next year.

Any better idea to save more or get more value? biggrin.gif

ok, see how next week. biggrin.gif actually Danga Bay is nearer to my house too in Tampoi area but i just not quite like the small area of the branch and i have a perception Taman Molek branch will have more stock than Danga Bay. In addition, my wife is working at Taman Molek area, so normally will arrange lunch with her whenever i am doing my business around there. wub.gif

Assuming that we can use the value first plan lowest rate, (RM30) for 24 months bundled with package, 24x30= 720. Don't count internet plan of RM50 because whether using package or not, I will still be on RM50 data. The phone that comes with the bundled package has to be at least RM1299 (1299+720= 2019) or lower in order to have any savings compared to AP set of 2k.

Possible to get 1299? S3 got 999 during launch, 1k discount from original phone price I think.
*
based on S3 record, should be able to get RM1,099 or slightly higher for 2 years contract. Coz RRP of Note II is more expensive than S3 by RM100. The RM999 S3 offer is the lowest i ever seen for Maxis android offer. But the stock is extremely limited - sold out on Day 1 in JB. doh.gif

Samsung themselves or by one of the telcos?

i think samsung dun do roadshow themselves at the beginning - based on Note and S3 previous launch.

they do, just now sure that if they do them for new launchings.
*
yes, that is what i mean, they dun do it during the beginning - when the new models just launched. During Note and S3 launching by Telcos, Samsung din do their own roadshow. But they do station their staff at the telcos roadshow as i observed from previous Celcom S3 launching roadshow in JB - there was some Samsung promo girls there - just to give a more in-depth explanation about the new model.

Of course for normal roadshow they do have from time to time.

titi123, based on DiGi sh*tty offer, i doubt Maxis will come out with a good offer. Someone mention that Maxis offer might be RM1,549. If that is for RM30 value first + RM68 3GB data for 2 years, i am gonna take SME free of contract instead. doh.gif It is way above the RM1,099 i estimated with 2 years contract, similar to S3. Most likely they dun think many ppl will sign up for this giant, so not going to give much discount unlike the volume of S3 sales. sad.gif

Sure bro? That means they are giving very little discount on the phone price, but still requiring the user to sign up for the most expensive plan??

Is it from a reliable source?
*
this the the minimum package you need to sign up for S3 previously. Based on DiGi offer already in their web site and Soyo Cincau accurate prediction of RM1,399 posted by thpace yesterday.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Dun expect too much from Maxis, i believe it will not be as good offer as S3 package. sad.gif

Total cost for DiGi Note II:
RM1,399 + RM88 x 24 months - RM30 rebate (RM5x6months) = RM3,481.

I think for DiGi S3 (during launching, not now):
RM999 + RM88 x 24 months = RM3,111. (do correct me if I remember wrongly)

Maxis S3 (during launching - confirmed, as i got one for my wife):
RM999 + (RM30 value plus + RM68 3GB data) x 24 months = RM3,351

If Soya Cincau is correct (most likely), then for Maxis Note II:
RM1,549 + (RM30 value plus + RM68 3GB data) x 24 months = RM3,901

A whopping RM550 difference. Unless Maxis offer a lower price plan for the bundle, I might just go for SME or even AP without contract and use a Maxis RM50 1.5GB data plan.

i can't say i agree...

my advice is that smartphone should ideally have a data plan. if not... that your phone is crippled. you can only use with at places where you have free wifi... that's not really data on the go...

assuming the person decides he or she will want data...

over 24 months (or say 12 months)... calculate total cost of ownership... device + data + average usage... more often than not, you save when you buy from telco... coz fact is... the hardware do get subsidised. only issue with telco bundle is whether a person can stay that long with a telco (provided the telco is given good coverage in the first place).
*
of course a smart phone like Note II deserve a data plan to be enjoyed fully but it all depends on how much data is offer and the call plan. I think light to moderate users need only 1.5GB. On top of that, some Telcos like Maxis will force you to take a minimum call plan of RM30/month.

For moderate user like me, getting the phone without contract and sign up for RM50 1.5GB data plan will be more worth. My wife only using about 1GB of the 3GB quota of the Maxis S3 contract every month coz she is using wifi at home and in office. So the extra money forked out for the contract for RM68 3GB data plan is actually wasted.

Of course for super heavy users, this is not an issue as their phone bills is few hundred every month. For them, the phone is virtually FOC from telcos.

actually for all those like me who are waiting for Maxis and Celcom plan, you can actually reverse calculated the maximum price you will take for contract.

Example for myself:
Buying SME set with 1.5GB data and budgeted RM10 call
RM2,299 + (RM50+RM10) x 12 months = RM3,019

Reversing back with minimum Maxis package:
RM3,019 - (RM30 call + RM68 3GB data) x 12 months = RM1,843.

So i will sign up for 1 year Maxis contract as long as the phone price offered by Maxis is RM1,843 or lower. As soon as Maxis announce their phone price, if there is no significant in the package they bundle, i can know whether i should go for SME/AP without contract or sign contract with Maxis. tongue.gif

For me, i plan for going with the SME set with Maxis Talkmore28 (RM 28) + Monthly 1GB pass (RM 48) since i'm just normal use for email, whatsapp and etc.  biggrin.gif

PS - If i really always overhit the quota then just upgrade to Monthly 3GB pass (RM 68). Top up RM 20 more only.  whistling.gif
*
based on my formula, as long as Maxis offer RM2,035 or lower for contract of 1 year, you should sign up for a contract. icon_idea.gif The Maxis RM30 call + RM68 data actually match your usage perfectly.

Working:
Buying SME set with 1GB data and RM28 call
RM2,299 + (RM48+RM28) x 12 months = RM3,211

Reversing back with minimum Maxis package:
RM3,211 - (RM30 call + RM68 3GB data) x 12 months = RM2,035.

QUOTE(botakbin @ Oct 12 2012, 10:11 AM)
actually shud count 24 months. then its more obvious. biggrin.gif
*
but 2 years is just too long. And strangely enough, from my previous calculations, you actually do not save much for the additional 1 more year contract. biggrin.gif

hi,what is flashing,rooting mean?

Rooting is like login as admin into your windows PC. While flashing a custom rom means you install a customised version of windows in your PC.

shouldn't have any effect on hardware if you do not overclock. Yes, some custom rom let you do overclock in a mobile phone like a computer. laugh.gif

you need root to use some apps like titanium backup. After rooting, only you can flash custom roms. Some custom rom offer slimmer size as they remove some default apps (i.e. some bloatwares), some offer tweaking in battery life, speed, etc.

*
just get the Note II and enjoy yourself, leave those jargon behind. Based on uncle Benny's assessment, there is no need to go the custom rom for this Note II.

I feel less urge to go for custom rom now. Only rooted my Tab 7.7 on stock ICS. The only reason to root is to use Titanium Backup.

Off topic a bit. How does one get into Maxis One Club?
*
like Cyclone1 said - be a big spender, you will be invited into the Club. Previously i have 6 lines in my account, total bills about RM350 and above every month. So i got the invitation into the Club. But even if i already shifted most of my siblings' lines from my account now, left only my wife's and recently ported back my own from DiGi, with total bill of only RM150-170, they still keep my name in the Club. Just check it with my NRIC at the MOC's S3 and Note 10.1 offer, i still eligible for the offer. Hopefully there is really a good deal waiting for me. biggrin.gif

Hi all. Just wanna confirm, if the ap set one purchased is origin from uk. When uk got ota update. This handset can also get the ota in Malaysia or anywhere in the world ... is that correct? That mean, when Malaysia got ota for sme handset, this ap set will not get and it got to wait till uk got ota, right?
*
correct, OTA update follow the origin of the ROM, not where it is now. Actually you can flash Malaysia official ROM if you want. You will get localised language like Malay, Chinese, etc.

Thanks for your reply.

1. Without the Malaysia rom, can I read Chinese SMS and website? Or I can do it by download apps e.g. Touchpal?
2. Is the Malaysia rom come with split screen?
3. After flash with Malaysia rom, will the ap set get ota from Samsung Malaysia. Or will the ap set get ota from uk?

Thanks
*
1. web site should be ok since it is not dependent on the phone language but rather the browser language. But sms most likely cannot.
2. yup. Even if not at this moment, shall get it soon - within 1 month i suppose.
3. it will get OTA from malaysia if it is flashed with malaysia official rom. that's why i mention the OTA follow the original of the ROM, not the phone. icon_idea.gif
