Ya lorh. Stupid dell.. Alrighty.. AW M17x here I come! (I still miss RX17 T-T)

If AMD Enduro's performance issue on RS17 is bothering you which made you go for RX17 (which is supposed to be a laptop to support dual GPU), you can always choose Nvidia GTX680M on your RS17. The price you pay to get an AMD HD7970M on AW already can get you a RS17 running on GTX680M. Not to mention that you can even opt for the LCD matte screen (anti glare if you wanna call it) and an overkilled of 16GB RAM (good for video editing or run multiple VMs). Oh yea, RS17 also has blink blink keyboard if that is what fancy you too. smile.gif

The Lenovo Y580 should be in your budget.

Besides, do you know how heavy is a 17" laptop?

Once you owned one, you won't even want to have another. Your back would be decimated by its weights laugh.gif

I cannot agree more with this. I own a 17.3" laptop. For portability, I won't get myself another 17.3". Currently, the max I would go for is 15.6" which comes with the MXM gpu.

And merry christmas to all laptop enthusiasts cheers.gif

Nvm nvm, you'll have the R-11 soon  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
Then can bring both out XD XD

LOL, you kinda pay attention to the toys everyone is getting for his/her christmas gift. sweat.gif
I don't think I wanna carry this 17.3 inch around. Reason why I buy this is because I thought I can stay around in Singapore without travelling much. So, in case I need to bring this 17.3 inch back to Malaysia during any special occasion, I won't have to carry a desktop. So, I would say that 17.3 inch is for carrying around occasionally.

But these days due to nature of work, I travel around a lot, therefore I need portability more than power and R-11 just fit into what I want.

To me, screen size of notebook is something like below:

11.6 to 12.1", high portability, low screen resolution (about 1366x768), only 1 HDD bay

13.3", this is somewhere between 11.6 and 14 inch. I do not favor this size because most of the laptops come in this size do not have ODD, so kinda make no difference than 11.6 and 12.1 except with the bigger screen

14", quite standard, still portable (standard weight which most people can accept), screen resolution of 1600x900, 1 HDD bay and 1 ODD bay which is replaceable by caddy case for a second HDD.
I think 14" is real good if you wanna go for the SSD + HDD option.

15.6", I think it is still heavy, but better than 17.3 inch in term of portability. Screen resolution of 1920x1080, 1 HDD bay and 1 ODD bay which is replaceable by caddy case for a second HDD. Dedicated GPU (MXM display card).
SSD + HDD + MXM display card. Good gaming laptop

17.3", The only word I can say is heavy. You can get almost everything the same as 15.6". But, currently, this is the minimum laptop size which can offer you the most powerful dual GPU option (SLI or XFire).

18.4", la la la..., forget about it, hardware spec is more or less the same as 17.3", but for AW, that is the size you get your dual GPU option.

I think if I ever wanna get a bigger screen, just connect the laptop to an external monitor, then you can get all the screen size that you want. And to be honest, you can find more backpack choices for laptop size of 15.6" and below.

14-17" Daily usage - internet surfing, movies, music, work.
*
Sounds pretty light usage, what kind of 'work'? If no video editing and gaming, I think you don't need to spend up to RM 4500.
I think 14" can easily SSD + HDD (just sacrifice the ODD for HDD). Unless you use ODD a lot or you are opting for 1920x1080p, then get a 17 inch with SSD + HDD + ODD.

Are there any laptops with SSD and ODD as well?
*
SSD + HDD + ODD, so 17" then. But, it is kinda unlikely to get one at RM 4.5k for this size..
Even Sager NP6370 costs more than that after factoring in the SSD.
Maybe the sifu here can recommend you some other options.

To be specific, I may need to use the laptop in car and ktm.
So portability is very important.

Maybe can consider Illegear R11 too which is what I'm going to receive next week since you said you do moderate gaming and portability is important to you.

With a size of 11.6 inch, you can easily bring it around. Plus, you are using it in KTM, the laptop itself is quite plain in design, it won't be "eye-catching" (attention seeking) biggrin.gif . But trust me, with the backcover easily removed, you can maintain the laptop easily without any fuss. After the M11X is phased out, I can't find any powerful laptop in this size. Furthermore, you can customize the laptop according to your need. Just add RM 99 and you get a matte screen. I believe for outdoor user, anti glare is important, so matte screen is a good option.

Go for Dell then. Been a dell user for 3 to 4 years in the past. Make sure you get the right warranty package. They might even go to your house to fix your laptop for you smile.gif

I had lost count with the model offered by Dell, let the sifu here recommend you tongue.gif
