1. Preferred Brand: any 2. Budget: max 3k 3. Usage: movies,music, games (dota 2), normal browsing 4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14-15
I have done some research. And am very tempted and almost certain to get the lenovo y580 (rm2999) as it has the best value for money with full hd display, good processor and graphics. The only drawback is the weight at 2.8kg. Before making the final decision, Are there any laptops with similar performance for this price but lighter ? Can any sifus enlighten me?

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Nov 13 2012, 10:13 PM) Unfortunately power doesn't come along well with portability and price... Either its a powerful and heavy and not-too-expensive laptop; or a lighter but less powerful and not-too-expensive laptop for you Haha. Ok. I get what u mean. What's your personal opinion bout the y580 then? Do u recommend it? And btw i saw you saying bout the y500. Whats the difference between the 580 and 500? Sorry for asking so many questions.

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Nov 14 2012, 12:08 AM) My opinion on the Y580? Its the best budget gaming laptop at the moment At least until the Y500 with an additional ultrabay GPU is out and benchmarked The new Y400 and Y500 series laptops are basically normal laptops, apart from being good-looking, they feature something called an "ultrabay" (a tray-like thingy that lets you put in an optical drive/ heat sink/ additional GPU etc.) These bays are usually only available in business-class notebooks before this. Although the new Y500 series were speculated not to come with a GTX level GPU like the Y580 does. The combined performance of 2 GPUs will most probably be better than the Y580. But still, its too early to tell I see. But to be honest, I'm not really into those intensive games ( skyrim/ bf3) and all those. So, i'm sceptical if i need such a good laptop. But anyway since it has the best bang for buck, why not right? Thanks for all the help! Btw: one last thing. Should i get windows 7 or 8? Cos I've read ppl saying that windows 8 doesnt work well on non touchscreens.

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Nov 14 2012, 12:36 PM) Its a good all rounder laptop, its not the best by a big margin Hmm, I don't think that's the case, the correct phrase should be "W8 doesn't work that optimally without touchscreens" But that's only for the tile menus... the desktop and everything else seemed to be similar to W7 Haha. Alright. Yeap. That's what i meant. apparently some gestures work better using touch, and is quite challenging and hard to do by using a touchpad or a mouse. And there are certain issues here and there also. Thanks anyway. Will think bout it.

Hi. Was here a few weeks back but still cant decide on windows 7 or 8. Hahaha. My main concern now is the software compatibilities. Are most softwares supported in windows 8? And are there are any major issues since its new? I will be studying overseas next year and i dont want it to crash or have any major issues.... Can any users share their experience? Thanks.
