1. Preferred Brand: No preference
2. Budget: less than RM 3,000
3. Usage: browsing/surfing (YouTube etc.), movies watching, light gaming (the likes of Maple Story etc.)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14" or 15" ish is good

An i5 would suffice, was thinking about this:
Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

But then just wanted to check if there's anything which is more bang of the buck or slightly more future-proof perhaps? And I probably wouldn't mind the snappiness of an SSD option or a FHD screen lol.

Thanks in advance smile.gif

MapleStory is not exactly very demanding in terms of graphics nod.gif
Hmm, unfortunately with your budget you can either choose ultrabook with SSD or a normal notebook with HD+/FullHD resolution.

Ultrabooks:
14"
Acer [Ultrabook] M5-481TG-53316G12, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M LE (28nm Kepler) + 128GB SSD@RM2899[1.85kg], 6GB, W8

Asus [Ultrabook]S46CM-WX023V, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM2399[2kg], 4GB, W7HP

Dell [Ultrabook]Inspiron 14z, i5-3317U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2599[1.87kg], 4GB, W7HP/W8 *no VGA port, OD

HP [Ultrabook] Envy4-1043TX/1053TX, i5-3317U + AMD HD7670M + [32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)]@RM2599[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, W7HP

Samsung [Ultrabook] NP530U4C, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M + 24GB mSATA + 1TB HDD@RM2999[1.81kg], 6GB, ODD, W7HP

Toshiba [Ultrabook] Satellite U940-1001X, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB mSATA + 640GB HDD@RM2899[1.7kg], 4GB, W8, backlit keyboard, upcoming

Normal Notebook with HD+/FullHD:
14"
Sony
Vaio SVE14A26CV, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M + (1600x900)@RM3199[2.4kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W8; colors: black/grey; Vaio backpack, mouse and keyboard skin

15.6"
Dell Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB,backlit keyboard optional, W7HP/W8

Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty

1. Preferred Brand : Acer or Toshiba
2. Budget : RM2.5K
3. Usage : MS Office, Internet, some movies
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 13"

I would like something fast but nothing that needs to be too great. Any recommendations please?

Nothing from Toshiba within that price range and size unfortunately sad.gif
For Acer:
13"
[Ultrabook] Aspire S3-391-33214G52s, i3-3217M + Intel HD3000 + 20GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM1999, 4GB, W8
[Ultrabook] Aspire S3-951-2464G25, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000 + 256GB SSD@RM2699[1.35kg]

*the S3 has pretty poor build quality, so be sure to check and make sure you're okay with it prior to purchasing.

If you don't mind a 14" ultrabook, then the following Toshiba would be good:
14"
Toshiba
[Ultrabook] Satellite U840-1005U, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000M + 16GB mSATA + 320GB HDD@RM2499[1.59kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, color: silver
[Ultrabook] Satellite U840-1000U, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000M + 16GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM2549[1.59kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, color: silver

I ask some shop. Coming on December. But this one, need to observe. Because of the GPU external card placement. I find it very "weird".  hmm.gif
*
Why weird?
I'm more worried about driver supports to be honest hmm.gif
If the drivers suck, no matter how much GPU power the notebook has, it won't be optimally utilized sad.gif

Pretty much these:
15"
Dell
Inspiron 15, i3-3110M + Intel HD4000@RM1399[2.4kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo Ideapad G580, B950 + Nvidia GT610M@RM1199, 2GB, 320GB, freeDOS, 1 yr warranty

The Dell would be more worth it because of having an OS nod.gif

2. Budget : 2.5k

4. Preferred laptop/screen size : Light & easy 2 carry / < 14"

Is it Acer Aspre S3 worth 2 buy??? Any better recommendations please?? Thanks..

Ultrabooks perhaps? But don't expect too much performance for your CAD nod.gif
14"
Asus [Ultrabook]S46CM-WX023V, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM2399[2kg], 4GB, W7HP

Lenovo [Ultrabook]S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2099[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; W8@RM2199

If you are into 3D modelling, then the Asus would be a better choice. Otherwise, pick the Lenovo, and use the remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years/ upgrade to W8 nod.gif

I never really liked notebooks with touchscreens; although the design is undoubtedly very attractive, the screen kept on wobbling as you "touched" it (this is a new display unit). Imagine what will happen after a few years- a swaying monitor...
And I don't really think the touchscreen will be useful also, unless if you are always on the run and hates using a mouse hmm.gif

There are threads on this already iinm hmm.gif
G55 does have better cooling, but with Y580 you can use the money saved to get an SSD and other upgrades.
So its up to you to decide, whether you want the extra performance or not hmm.gif

True, true. Driver support. Nvidia never encourage SLI setup in lower range cards.
And for some of us, the dreaded micro-stuterring. (Lucky are those whose eyes are never bother by micro-stuterring in SLI setup) smile.gif
Also, (I am not sure about this), the SLI in Y500 is done through SATA and not PCIe (?). If that is the case, latency could be worse than a normal SLI. Standard benchmarking sometime don't pick up the microsturring issue that well.
My suggestion for potential buyers is to actually "test drive" it with games you want to play, if possible.

Ohh, sorry I didn't notice that doh.gif

On this topic, Intel integrated graphic has come leaps and bound. HD4000 improve so much over HD3000. And reading the roadmap for Intel next gen CPU (the next tick-tock cycle), they are aiming for 50% improvement over HD4000. This bring them up to GT620/630 level sweat.gif Nvidia and AMD better up their game laugh.gif

Cool factor laugh.gif For RM1.3+, quite a thrill. Like a tablet, but with a keyboard. Nice (not too expensive) seasons gift to kids / chicks blush.gif

If like you said, only a little bit of video editing and photos, then the 14z would be better since its an ultrabook and is very portable nod.gif
