quadcopters are the absolutely easiest thing to learn ... besides planes la

u will need a radio controller no matter what u fly
then just get yourself a simulator ... goggle RC SIMULATOR and see if u can get the ehmm ehmmm versions
then make a choice of what u wanna learn to fly

then choose the aircraft according to your budget ...
try and find a group close to your location for more hands on info and guidance ...

I'm in Sarawak and the nearest group I know is in Miri ... About 300km away tongue.gif

Where does everyone get their models from? I've seen some in shops, but the quality is very questionable

great as a stress reliever ... charge the battery using your USB port at PC

Any online retailers for this ? Don't know of any proper hobby shops in S'wak.

Does anyone have advise regarding imports ? I'm in Sarawak which dosent seem to have high quality RC Flying Models.

Thinking of getting a few things from hobbyking.com (unless someone knows of a local dealer ?) but worried about customs & any further taxes.

What's a good photo/video drone to start off with ?

Noticed shashinki has the Walkera TALI H500 but DJI Inspire 1 seems to be able to do indoor flight very well ?

this is a little subjective. multirotors behave the same way in flight, that is inherently stable. hence, both are pretty much the same. things to consider:
1. size: for indoors, you'll probably need something smaller. if walkera still follows its original naming scheme, H500 is 500 sized. so not really an indoor friendly flier.
2. parts: pick the one with parts that are easily available. cheaper parts is also a plus.
3. rotors: more rotors means more lift. whether you need this or not, depends on you.
4. controls: pick the one with a control layout that's more comfortable to you. this includes flight and camera controls. eg, a mode 2 tx is more comfortable if the camera controls are more on the left side. so, you can fiddle with the camera with your left hand and still maintain cyclic with your right.

so in the end, your  money, your choice.  laugh.gif

Thanks !

Have played around with the DJI Phanthom before, but unsure of how easy it is to get DJI parts in M'sia ? Was planing on buying from their website unless anyone knows a good retailer here ?

Thanks ! had a glance at the dji section of their website, but looks like only Phanthom II while everything else is parts ?

Would anyone suggest ordering directly from DJI ? I don't mind waiting 1-2 weeks if it saves me some $$ and a better selection.

what about UDI U818A?

I just received a unit of UDI U818A from Lazada. Just tried 1 time flying, video & picture are acceptable to me, no complaints for RM169
BTW, i'm newbie in these RC flying crafts.
*
That's interesting, how easy is it to fly ? Any good as a trainer drone ?

Price is very tempting but stated flight time (6-9 minutes) is too short for video/photo shots I'm hoping to get.

plus, the "Before RM 500.00 , You save 66%", yeah right lazada  doh.gif .

On amazon it's USD99-ish (not sure if its FPV or standard cam since the reviews are mixed up) but still RM130-ish is pretty sweet on Lazada. Going to look at some more reviews tommorow but otherwise this is likely to be my 1st drone too !

Has anyone imported their own DJI drones/parts in before ? Is it just as straight forward as ordering from the website and paying the shipping fee ? Worried if there are any custom restrictions ...

why DJI in the 1st place ??
many other options that are cheaper .. DJI is considered to be a premier brand and premier price to go with .. lol
eg. phantom 2 is capable of estimated 15 mins flight time depending what u put on board ... but the battery costs rm400+ each .. lol
*
According to some reviews, DJI is the "Apple" of drones, everything should work right out of the box ... everytime. Also aware of the DJI Flip of Death but seems like they've fixed that so tongue.gif

Don't mind paying a premium since I'm more into the photography part over flying.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. I do realize the U818A is a entry level drone, and after going through enough reviews (and youtube videos) I placed an order with Lazada. Including 10% MasterCard discount, total was RM152 thumbup.gif Now just hoping it will arrive since comments about Lazada are quite mixed.

Now the U818A will be my trainer drone as I'm setting my sights on the DJI Inspire 1 as I've mentioned before. I've searched around and next best option is a used DIY drone which has "LightBridge" for RM2k which looks very tempting price-wise (RM2k).

Issue now is to find a DJI seller in M'sia. Shashinki price is really high @ RM12k but I've sent them a price match request. Conversion USD to MYR from DJI store is RM10k ... excluding shipping. Another site hobbysportz.com is RM9.6k ... anyone has comments on buying from them ?

my question is - will it get detained at customs or will i get charged for bringing one in?

Hoping to know the answer to this too smile.gif My experience importing laptop/camera has been fine since these are specifically exempt from customs tax. Didn't see a classification for "drones" and it could fall into electronics, transmitter, radio, machinery etc etc

Short thoughts on my UDI 818A

Bought for RM152 via lazada.com.my thumbup.gif . Very impressed on speed of delivery, just 2 days after I ordered (and this is year end !)

This is my 1st quad, so comments may be noob-ish. Have flown it 10 times now (ie: 10 charges) and getting better at it smile.gif good stable flyer when there is no wind. With even a small tiny breeze this drone will struggle, unless you fly it close to the ground. Batt life is around 5 minutes of flight and 40 minutes to fully charge.

Also suggest google-ing around for the English manual online, was slightly confused at 1st on how to attach the camera.

Overall a happy purchase, now hoping sifu's here can recommend good spare batteries for this drone

Anyone tried this "Lishitoys L6052"?  I bought for cheap usd35 since it looks ooler than my old V929 and arrived in good condition from china in 4 days.  Stupidly easy to fly and bunch flipping aerobatics in windy condition.  Tonnes of fun for cheap and good looking quad.  I'll let you guys know soon what i think about it after playing more outdoors soon.

Alright guys!  my secret weapon has arrived after waiting for a week!  Its a DJI SPARK rival!  The C-FLY DREAM 2019 batch! This tiny drone looks similar but at half price yet have all the features you want in quality pocket drones.  This thing looks solid and quality build in and out.
