i'm new to RC flying, and i would like to build a quadcopter for some learning and weekend flying planning to build one that is expandable to octocopter so that when i get good with a quad i will move on and upgrade then mount my DSLR with a gimbal underneath it planning to get some parts from Rotorbits in Hobby King site so roughly how much budget i should be looking at if let's say i would like to build a medium size quad, then later upgrade to hexa or octo flight controller should be reusable with different programming and motor also can reuse right?

QUOTE(QiW @ Aug 6 2014, 09:01 PM) if u build a simple frame just for flying around ... it costs less than rm10 for the frame just dump the old one and build a new one when u upgrade ... hahaha most controllers that can fly a quad can handle an octo motors and escs ... just get another 4 of the same ones when u upgrade to octo from quad is there any local sellers/shops i can get those parts like motor, propeller flight controller etc etc? shipment from Hobbyking is kinda expensive (EMS is around RM50 under 1KG) since i'm planning to build bit by bit

QUOTE(QiW @ Aug 8 2014, 06:30 AM) yes there is ... but u will be paying inflated prices of coz so even if i ship to here from hobbyking + the shipment fees still cheaper than buying here? do you or anyone know where can i get people to help me cut some carbon fiber/fiber glass tube? or make some aluminium parts

QUOTE(QiW @ Aug 8 2014, 12:37 PM) carbon fiber is extremely expensive aluminium u will have to source around la ... google is your fren yes ... even after accounting for shipping ... alot of stuff still cheaper to ship in yourself i can find some carbon fiber tube from HobbyKing that is way lower than ebay and their weight is light so i think shipment still ok la wanna ask if the rotor boom i use 12mm thick hollow carbon fiber tube for octocopter, 14" props will it be too much stress on it? want to find those motor dataspec also very hard, not all motor got data, worry later i buy wrong

QUOTE(jovial @ Oct 21 2014, 08:59 PM) lipo batteries are very hard to ship by air. some couriers ban them totally. but the seller already mentioned free shipping with china airmail, the thing is do i need to do anything on my side? like settle the tax and so on?

if i want to make a connection between my battery and my gimbal controller board, which type of wire should i use? i mean the thickness should have a certain minimum thickness for high current discharge battery right?

QUOTE(QiW @ Oct 26 2014, 04:53 PM) any wire that handles 2 or 3a good enuff la ... easiest to use the jst connectors ... light and secure connection thank for the recommendation, for the connector i've decided to go for T style dean plug it is really hard to get the ampere draw for those gimbal motors

QUOTE(QiW @ Oct 26 2014, 08:32 PM) gimbal motors draw so little ... but nvm la ... deans works .. just add little more weight only .. LOL weight not really a matter here, since i'm building a handheld gimbal only and the gimbal is already full carbon fiber, the only aluminium is the clamp, gonna abandoned my multirotor plan due to its cost and i think malaysia is not really a RC plane friendly place This post has been edited by amduser: Oct 26 2014, 11:16 PM

QUOTE(QiW @ Oct 27 2014, 01:13 PM) to fly RC planes .. need big open space if in klang valley then really not ez multirotors are getting cheaper by the day prolly coz no need big space like plane ... hahaha quad is cheap, but hex or above starting to get more expensive, and lesser flight time, at first thought of building an octo that can carry a dslr to do some aerial photography but that is too far off from my budget

well...just to share a pic of my gimbal that is still in progress
kinda hard to find workshop or factory that produce carbon fiber and custom cutting in malaysia, anyone know any carbon fiber maker in malaysia can recommend me, next time want get replacement part also easier end up i have to source the carbon fiber from china which cost me around USD 150-160 for all the parts in the picture above, it is 3k carbon fiber, cutting is good so it is quite worth the price

anyone want a 6s1p battery? i tried to purchase a 4s1p battery from alibaba but the lousy supplier sent me a 6s1p battery instead , the battery is working fine who need it can offer as i cant use 6s1p for my gimbal, i havent use it before, only plugged it to check the capacity and i store it in room temperature with lipo guard bag and the thing is the stupid seller go stick the wrong label on the battery, so i dont know what is the actual mAh, but initially i ordered 4s1p 8000mAh, below is the picture

QUOTE(QiW @ May 7 2015, 11:35 PM) Fresh water oso can.. It just takes longer time only compared to salt water.. Soak in fresh water for a week compared to 1 or 2 days in Salt water.. Same effect.. but after that the salt water will be corrosive? so i must do that in a steel or glass container? since plastic is no good for corrosive liquid
