just got back from the apple store in gurney plaza penang and am happy to report that the upgraded mac minis are on sale. finally after all the speculations and drooling while lurking in other foreign mac forums. there was one on display and i made it a point to get the specs from the finder bar.
for those waiting for it, go ahead and indulge yourself. i presume they are also on sale in the kl outlets. as for me, its a case of too little too late. i just got a new windoze desktop so no new computers for me at least for the next 4 years.

yes but whenever i go to the shop to enquire, they always tell me that as far as they know there is no official word on the upgrade. 2 months ago when i was messing around with their display unit, it was still the old specs.
if you visit foreign forums, a lot of people were already getting the 'secret' upgrade way back in october/november.

you can upgrade your mac mini using unofficial way.. you can find it at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/82.0.0.html .. but it make your mac mini no more warranty.. but i will upgrade my RAM using this way..

i've upgraded my ibook's hdd and ram by myself and yes, i've void the waranty.. but nothing happens, everything works just fine for me except for few of my friends they have probs with slot loading drive, myb they insert the cd kasar-kasar..

dunno about penang but if i am not mistaken the new specs are already selling here in KL but i am not too sure of the price

sorry to waste too much of your time but the link that u provided pointed to the 1.42 GHz chip. i was referring to the unannounced but upgraded (by apple) specs of 1.52 GHz chip. refer to prasys' post above this.

Yup, these silently *upgraded* Macs has been trickling in for the past 4 months plus, since I got one of the upgraded ones late Oct I think.

But bear in mind that these will be the final PowerPC versions since Apple is rumoured to be prepping up the Intel version very soon...

prasys is kidding Apple never released a mac mini with 1.52 GHz or a dual layer DVD burner...

and the link to Penang's Apple Center... shows the same 1.42 mac mini that I mentioned...

Do note that for some who bought a new Mac Mini recently might have had received an older stock, which is nothing wrong per se, but if you are hoping to get the refreshed ones, order at a shop with the latest models OR try to check the serial no. of the unit (located somewhere on the Mac Mini packaging box), go to apple.com/support/ and enter that no. in the About Your Support Coverage. Note if it says Mac Mini (late 2005), which if it is, then Bob's your uncle!

But to be absolutely sure, boot it up, and check the specs out at the About Mac. Then plonk your cash.

it's a shame to have the Radeon9200 in the minis... they should have given it a 9550 at the very least.

excuse me... but I did say that Apple isn't *SELLING* the mac mini in 1.5GHz...

all this speculation is fine and dandy... what happens if you buy the mini, open the box and find its a 1.42? hmm?

no one is going to let you open each and every mac mini in their store to find a 1.5 right?

i suggest u do something like what begredbarr said. look at the serial # and then get on the internet at the store itself and check the apple website for the make.

The current retail channels selling the Mac Mini is still being stocked by the previous spec. Mac Minis, which may explain while Apple will retain the 1.42Ghz labelling. No one wants to buy and receive a machine with a lower end spec. THAN labelled, but is much more favourable if it is the opposite.
