QUOTE(loon23 @ Aug 19 2015, 02:54 PM) 3.5k b4 GST?Oscar is good choice if it is inside your budget range. Read more review from oscar owners to get assured and make up your mind. I love my oscar. It can produce cafe quality coffee. I like its powerful steam to froth milk, its safety feature boiler auto off when its water level running low. It is worth what u pay for proconsumer heatexchanger machine. You can come over my house for coffee if u r from penangπ |

QUOTE(loon23 @ Aug 21 2015, 07:34 AM) U can consider china brand grinder, WPM, if u r not willing to spend extra few K money. They do perform well. By common sense, cornical burr grinder is just a simple mechanism. I dont know what is the significant benefit buying those "high tech" expensive grinder. As long as my coffee taste better than cafe made, i will keep my WPM ZD-16 grinder. My 2 cents |

QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Aug 29 2015, 12:08 AM) Some updates to my never ending no-life coffee hobby: Do u wana share auresso fortnightly 1kg subscription? Each take 500g = rm 52.5 , can last for 2 weeks.1) Modded the Compak K3 by removing the rubber flab. I've managed to get retention down to less than 0.1 grams with the new sequence, essentially making it a single dose machine. Now that I know that low retention is possible, I've begun to contemplate actually "hacking" the front panel off for ease of access. Perhaps even adding a custom chute... 2) Got fedup with the quality of local beans and get myself an auresso subscription. OMG JESUS FUCK the first bag is OUT of this world. Never had coffee which I could pull a shit shot (due to not being dialed in yet) and still tasted great. EDIT: First bag of coffee from Auresso is http://www.auresso.com.my/product/19/Mexico-Salitral-Estate/ GODLY stuff. Highly recommended. Lightly roasted and yet without any hint of sour taste. It's sweet, chocolatey and smells damn fine. Haha |

QUOTE(dwRK @ Sep 25 2015, 09:47 AM) Timer won't spoil the machine.. My machines all used to run on timers without problems. As you know for Oscar without vacuum valve it just gets hot/warm but not to temp, at least it helps half way getting it warmed up. I dint expect oscar can last that long, 10yrs. Good to hear that ur oscar 10yrs old. HahaThe restrictor and opv mod changes the Oscar from a low end entry machine to a mid end machine in performance. Just not sexy in looks. For me the restrictor is also important and I'll do that too with the opv. Respect your decision not to mod, it may not be all that important for milk drinks. We just feel you're not maximizing your set up that's all. You said wanna maintain until it stops working then upgrade. Well my machines are coming to 10 years already and still going strong. You have a long while to wait BTW, the local cafes are not all that great. Be careful not to compare with mediocres. Im lazy to modify oscar, although it looks like involve simple steps. but how u guys know u your brew pressure reduced to desire pressure after modifying OPV? Wat i saw on youtube is they have pressure gauge portafilter. Where u guys buy the opv? |

QUOTE(dwRK @ Nov 6 2015, 08:40 PM) I have sinned... If u r looking for cheap beans, do u know about antipodean merdeka bean? Indonesian arabica bean. Rm25 per 250g & can get a free drink, latte, cappuccino, french press...Started a bag of supermarket coffee...expiry Jan 17...I'm estimating 10 months stale... I couldn't help myself, the bright orange packaging was too enticing No crema as expected...but surprisingly flavorful nutty and rich coco, good for latte. Will continue to fine tune tomorrow. Most likely to sample the rest of their range Good value for money stuff these for latte. Hahaha I will get a beg from them everytime im in KL π |

QUOTE(dwRK @ Nov 7 2015, 03:43 PM) Thanks. I agree their espresso blend is quite nice too. Whats the roaster name & exact address?Their coffee at the shop not so good IMHO. A bit too much fines from using a flat burr espresso grinder for the job. I usually just skip the free coffee. I'm not looking for cheap beans per se. Just exploring and experimenting. There's a Chow Kit roaster I think RM 28 per Kg Indo Arabica I will try soon enough |

Espresso Lab is the only one charge GST on coffee bean that i know. If not mistake coffee bean is zero-rated item.
I get my bean from antipodean. Cheap & good. Rm25 for 250g package include one free coffee. My last visit is at midvalley antipodean, free french press brewed coffee drinks with a package purchase. Love it |
