Guys,

I have been trying to run a p2p program (Shareaza) at Starbucks (using the free wifi service provided by timezone) - it says that I am behind a router / firewall. What can I do / how do I configure my system (WinXP) or the program?

Cheers!

I have used Kazaa,Limewire and Warez at STARBUCKS in various outlets in KL. Never had a problem connecting and downloading. I have never encountered "You are behind a firewall" problem. Anyway If you do then turn off the firewall in your own comp. Control Panel --> Windows Firewall.....

I was told that it's very dangerous to run a p2p program as the hacker would attack your laptop and steal your files. is that true?

Btw, we can't run a p2p program if we had been activated the firewall program. right?

Im using a normal Centrino using WinXP Professional and Norton 2005. Nothing out of the ordinary. I see other people at STARBUCKs beside me also using P2P softwares without any hitch.....could be your personal settings?

I dialled up using Jaring and there was no 'you are behind a firewall' message when I launch the P2P program (shareaza). So...surely it's the wifi's issue then?

I am using TimeZone by the way, at Starbucks.

Yes, as long as computers interacts with another, it offers such risks. Thus it's advisable to make sure you're running a firewall, up-to-date antivirus software, and etc etc to _minimize_ such risks.

Not really, normally firewall must configure to block else it usually allows.
I was able to use BitComet @ Timezone-Starbucks though. laugh.gif

Have you try other p2p programs? smile.gif

I'm a frequent user of Starbuck coffee wifi and I've never encounter any problem using p2p limewire or kazaa. My reckon is that the firewall might be from pc. Try to switch it off. Try Limewire. Limewire can be used even when the firewall is active such as zonealarm etc.
