my friend wnt to buy a ps3 console...the seller says there's a ps3 worth 700+ but can only play region 3 game (ver 2000 somthng)..another one 900+ ca play all region (ver 3000 somthng)..so im wondering is there any console that has region lock..?? as far i know..ps3 is region free..n my fren says these 2 ps3 look the same..noted that both are slim..any expertise here who can help my friend..??any shop seller..??

Region-lock applies if you are doing the backward compatibility thing. Eg: using it to play PS2 games.

The question of whether they sell R1, R2 or R3 games depends on the demand and how fast the game is available. For example, they prefer to stock up R3 games coz they can get their games quicker from Singapore during release date. For R1, the stock is released in US. So, by the time they managed to ship em' here, everyone else has already purchased R3. So, they might as well stock up more R3. Remember, not everyone has the patience to wait for R1 to arrive. Those not expecting any DLC might as well just get R3.

There is a region lock for certain games on the PS3 though, most recently being Persona 4: Arena.

all game region free, the disc u buy might have different content inside each region.

thnks guys..my friend already bought the ps3..he bought the rm900+ 1..bcos he also think that myb the rm700+ 1 has somthng wrong with it..but even the ps3 has region lock on R3..who wnts to play only R3 game..??u can only buy R3..n even finding 2nd hand games is very difficult..~ btw..thnks guys..support my friend..he's a new ps3 guy..

sony stuff never have region lock except for their movie and no idea why they region lock their movie~

Not Sony's problem, it's the choice for labels and studios to region lock their movies.
And not all movies are region lock, more and more of them are region free.
