HTC Windows Phone 8X is rather compact with its 4.3" 720p screen. It measures 132.4 x 66.2 x 10.1mm and weighs 130g. The HTC Windows Phone 8X (now that's a mouthful) uses a polycarbonate unibody, similar to that of the One X.

Going back to the screen, it's a Super LCD 2 unit with Gorilla Glass 2 protection and it's laminated to reduce glare.
The HTC Windows Phone 8X is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with two Krait cores clocked at 1.5GHz, Adreno 225 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It runs Microsoft's latest phone OS, Windows Phone 8 (as the name quite clearly indicates).
The camera on the back should be familiar to HTC users - 8MP BSI sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 28mm field of view (in 35mm terms). It contains a dedicated HTC ImageChip and can shoot 1080p video with stereo sound.
There's a 2.1MP front-facing camera too, which can also record1080p videos and makes use of the ImageChip.
Having mentioned sound, HTC has included its trademark Beats Audio sound enhancement, but no Beats headset as is the norm with some of its Android phones.
The HTC Windows Phone 8X comes with 16GB of built-in storage, which you can expand with a microSD card.
For connectivity, the HTC's WP8 flagship relies on dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB and 3.5mm audio jack.
The Windows Phone 8X will become available in the beginning of November, covering 150 major carriers in 50+ countries, but HTC's press release was mum on price. There will be four color versions - California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow.

The marketing genius me just had an idea - Samsung "1st to unveil WP8", Nokia "1st to unveil working WP8", HTC "1st to unveil WP8 with pricing & availability" at Windows Phone Family everyone can be a first. HAHAHAHAHA

size 5" = note or table

size 4.0 ~ 4.8 = still acceptable as smartphone.

once you adapt to 4.8" very hard to downgrade. if you look at my history .. 2003 BIG > small > middle small > BIG laugh.gif

Not entirely. you see the weather and time tile (although the time info repetitive) is similar to HTC Sense.

Evil is waiting for HTC Titan 4.7 WP8 replacement.

I personally think 920 and 8X are "lower" high end devicess. HTC and Nokia will eventually launch better spec SUPERPHONEs which will become the real flagship WP8 devices for the two companies.

offline. Microsoft managed to get a deal with Nokia to make Nokia drive available on all WP.

Btw any news on the 8S? My mom want to get a new phone and she is not tech savy. Just buy phone to look cool. Instead of being generic and getting ip5 or the S3, the 8S looking damn sleek with the two tone colours.

Oh crap

HTC One X+ and Windows Phone 8X, 8S officially launched for SEA. Available mid-November

Looks like my htc 8x that i booked in lowyat cannot be fulfilled next week as they promised. I wonder if they are gonna call to inform and apologise. Knowing the standard of service here in malaysia, probably not.

Hopefully camera will be better than one X. RM1699 sounds a bit high, no? hmm.gif Quad core one X is around this price or cheaper. Or they are using the "smoothness" advantage over the one X? But what if one X with Jellybean?

Superbuy looks legit, its like zalora i think, never bought from them before.

Added on November 16, 2012, 2:55 amHtc 8s is where around 799/899? Htc 8x is 1599/1699. Nokia lumia 820 should be 1199/1299 Nokia Lumia 920 around 1899/1999. Net said it gonna be more expensive then s3. I love the camera pure view floating lens. sad.gif apps will grow. Think with the flooding of WP8 phones/devices should attract more devs.

I just played with an HTC 8x...first of all, the hardware is stupendously glorious. Thin, light, and downright gorgeous, with the soft touch back, tapered body, curved screen, just wow. Makes my Lumia 900 pales in comparison. And no, its not a copy of Lumia, maybe inspired by it, but copy? Far from it.

I'll reserve my judgement on the OS itself, its a demo unit after all.

Good job HTC! Its a solid product.

Currently there is no Nokia Drive in 8X?

QUOTE
Thanks for contacting HTC!

Nokia said that Nokia Drive will be available for all Windows 8 phones, this however is up to the manufacturer, we are currently reviewing the possibility of bringing Nokia Drive in our future releases and as an update. Meanwhile, you may try some applications on the Windows marketplace that have voice GPS navigation such as Garmin Streetpilot.

Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us through HTC Smartphones and Tablets - Support for HTC Cell Phones and Tablets or call us at +1-866-449-8358 from 6AM to 1AM EST, 7 days a week

Can 8X owners confirm this?

I just came back from there. The sales personnel who happened to be there just now did not seem to know too much but what was worse was that he was saying things which were totally off tangent.

So, when you guys go there and if that same person is there, take whatever he says with a pinch of salt.

Don't the posts above say it is already available in Malaysia and sold by authorized dealers of HTC, i.e. HTC reps?

Is our language that bad or your comprehension of it lacking?

Since you put it that way, you know what would have saved unnecessary postings? You asking unnecessary questions when the answer to it was already posted just a couple of posts earlier.

Windows Phone sifu, please enlighten me..... I am planning to switch over to WP8 in particular HTC WP8x..... may I know if WP8 has internet tethering/WiFi hotspot function in the OS?? I have read that old Nokia Lumia have such function only after Nokia's own update. Please help coz I am planning to buy a Windows 8 tablet and Windows 8 phone soon. If don't have such function, then I will have to stick to android phone. thanks.

yup, it is the same as the 920. Not sure how to share through cable though. I think you need the suit installed.

I played with 8x at sunway pyramid. I have to say it feels nice in the hand, using it one handed shouldn't be too difficult even with my small hands and it's a beautiful phone.

The only problem is they only have black and have no idea when the coloured phone will come. 8x blue looks really nice.

Can anyone please explain to me the umobile x8 package??? Because i dont understand why the u28 package have to pay rm129 per month while the u88 also paying rm132 per month?

The starting fee of u88 and u28 is almost the same.

So my question is, if the fee is almost the same, why would dey have so many packages? seems to me theres almost no difference in price if u get u88 or u28?

i believe it should be like this:

you pick your plan either u28, u58 or u88.... then you have to pay RM1543, RM1549 or RM1587 depending on your plan then RM28, RM58 or RM88 each month afterward... but, should you don't want to pay RM1.5k+ when you grab 8x, you can choose to pay it in 12 month installment.. that's where Rm129 & RM132 kicks in... but there's still monthly bill (RM28, RM58 or RM88).

of course the starting fee almost the same, but then how about the subscription fee that you need to pay each month? so, in the end, the total money u spent will be differ based on different plan (ignoring additional cost). dun forget, the contract is 24 month nod.gif

Anybody interested to buy black unit? I'm planning to sell it next week, 1 year warranty from brightstar (12/12/12). All the accesories still intact in their packaging (charger and headset). 99.99% handset condition, already got screen protector. And the receipt still intact

I just want to try it and decided didn't really like windows phone as it is still a new operating system

pm me if interested. COD only in KL (you can check everything first).

Ps: is it ok for me to sell it here?

The relatively polished Nokia apps and twice the storage capacity are what drove me to the 920. I test-driven a colleague's 8X and I like the thin profile of it all, but the display quality and the built-in apps aren't that enticing.

Htc 8x owner for a week. So far i hav to say im quite happy with my phone.
I dun usually do much with the phone besides calls, sms, watsapp communication during work, pictures and browsing. Dont game with the phone (pc for gaming only plz =P )

So far the experience have been great! the ui is simplistic and layout is straightforward. there's not much animation tbh (heck! the loading bar is just 5 small dots flashing horizontally thru the screen!), which may explain the butter-smooth response of the phone.

So far i'd not encounter one single lag on the phone, fb, youtube etc. there's some hick-ups once in a blue moon but i think thats more of a connection problem.

As for the cons.... well, the battery. so far it can last till nite time with moderate surfing and watsapp. (dey say it ll get better once the battery optimizes itself, so i ll just see. i do wish it could b longer.

And another thing... have u seen this gorgeous phone? (i had to admit i fell in love the first sight lol) so far lots of ppl r complementing on the design of the phone. its freaking thin and just sits rite in your palm.
BUUUTTTT, theres a drawback, it looks fragile. and frm the report i'd read ard the forums, the corners of the glass WILL CRACK if you not careful enough. I dropped my phone once from a 1 m tall table, luckily it landed on the backside of the phone. i wouldnt dare imagine what will happen if it landed on the glass side. PLUS id read about the colors on the corner of the phone faded/gets dirty easily.

Tldr,
pro: its simplistic ui, totally lag free, and most importantly, its gorgeous!
cons: its looks fragile, drop it n u ll cry. Corners getting dark, battery is on the low side.
Btw, id seen both htc 8x n lumia 920, hardware wise, 920 is def the better phone, but heck, love the 8x design so much i think the tradeoff is worth it.

Sounds r ok. beats amp r ok, but to my ears its just buffed up bass (making it punchier etc) n some changes in the mid, the tradeoff is sound neutrality n clarity. im sure some basshead will prefer the extra base. you can off it if u want.

I noticed some perks on the headphone jack tho. im using my sennheiser hd203 n the sound from it is ok. but when i plug in my rewired ksc75 (recabled by pcworks) i noticed that the sound is off when i on the beats amp. im not sure why but i think that mayb due to slightly diff plug head used by pcwork.
If you see a 8x, the headphone jack on the side is slightly curved, means part of the headphone jack is not totally inside the inlet. mayb thats causing the issue?
Htc does giv u a headphone.. but dat one u can throw away. =)

because u will get bond for 24 months ... if you want to void the contract u will get penalty kaw kaw

they reduce the phone price but they will take u more upfront payment but reduce the phone price ...U28 = 3 months ..U58 = 5 months (thats why u can see the gap in between U28 and U58 per month easy payment amount is same)

that mean your first or last 5 months internet charges will be deduct from the upfront payment

then when u make a call or sms ..will be charge u separately

U28 = 28x24 + 1459 = compulsory payment for u to pay (exclude call and sms) =2131 (1gb data)

U58 = 58x24 + 1259 = 2651 (2gb data per month)

u28 = free some sms

U58 = free some call

Do a search under our GS. There are resellers for the HTC 8X there.

Question to 8X owners: Do you often accidentally press the Bing capacitive button?

I have the HTC Mozart and the position of the Bing button is so annoying. I often accidentally press it with the bottom of my thumb, and like nearly 100% of the time whenever I pass the phone to a friend they will press the Bing button. I don't even know why there's a Bing button. Why isn't it just a normal app? It's a normal app on Windows 8 and Windows RT. Most of the Bing features don't even work in Malaysia anyway. So annoying. At least give us an option to disable it, sheesh.

I am sorry but I am a strong advocator of self help especially when someone has already pointed you to the right direction. All you need to do is enter GS. Under Search, key in HTC 8X and you will find what you want. This is as close as I will go which is almost spoon-feeding, which I am against.

I believe it is, given the material and the surface. Just like the glossy surface of some of the Nokia Lumia series which attract fingerprints, the 8X will attract dust and dirt. And the 'paint' will wear off in time.

Hey guys, i am considering to get this device from umobile (sign a 2 year contract with them)..
The main problem with window phone 8 is the lack of apps and the quality of the apps available..
my main concern is on a few basic apps that I cannot live without ..
How is the user interface on facebook, whatsapp and internet explorer?

Also, how well can this phone hold against drop? Sometimes i drop my phone.. and i'm very afraid of super fragile phone as in you accidentally drop it once, the screen will just crack

oh..forgot to mention... I'm a long time android user ..switching from galaxy nexus

Any phone is prone to breakage if dropped. It depends on the point of impact.

Suggest you have a casing for your phone since you confessed you are careless but that in itself is not fool-proof.

On the features/functions of WP8, suggest strongly you spend some time reading the posts here to gather some intelligence before jumping in.

but i wanna know if the user interface for specific apps like facebook and whatsapp are good .. (i read some bad reviews on this.. so i want to verify)
the demo sets don't have sim card ..so i can't really try whatsapp

I am like you, considering a change to WP8. I have been reading the posts religiously as I want to make a right decision. I believe you have not read all the posts in the Windows Phones Thread as, if you have you would have gotten a lot of the information you wanted. I did.

Yes.

The more I read the more inclined I am towards not going down the path. Not that the WP8 phone I am considering is not good. It looks like it does not serve MY needs. It may be different for you. Hence, my suggestion for you to go through the threads here.

Good luck, mate.

Thanks for your advise and yes i do agree. Forgive me but all my attempts of searching and getting more info has turn to a dead end, even at GS and its pretty frustrating to say the least.

FYI guys i have called HTC and they claim the model will only be out for sale at mid-Feb in local stores. Fortunately i have purchased mine last Saturday @ LWYT , they were having 3 days promo and only for California Blue which is EXACTLY the color i wanted. Hoo-Rah! Loving the phone very much !!

Glad you managed to buy what you want.

Now just be wary of the colour wearing off your phone. It has been reported that the colour is 'sprayed' on and over time, it will wear off.

Regarding the GS here, if you know how to do the search it is quite easy to get what you are looking for.

Enjoy your new toy.

Yes i have read that about the Lumia as well, something to do with the poly-carbonate thingy?

The only problem now is no one is selling the screen protector for this model,it seems even though the screen resolution is same as Experia's 4.3" , 8X is totally different.

Ok wil do buddy, thanks again. notworthy.gif

SP (UltraClear) will make your screen more oily & fingerprint unless you apply the Anti-Glare SP or SP with Oleophobic Coating (Oil Resistance)

lumia 920 is too advance.

hopefully future update will fit the bugs.

low spec like lumia 620 had lesser problem. ^^

I've downloaded mine. But it stop after loading with SIM card unsupported. MCC:502. Message.

so that means the app will detect the SIM card to see if the Network Operator is US based or not? OMG.. this is too bad... Got a nice offer from friend for 8X.. but it is Nokia bundled software that actually hold me back from getting 8X... In term of design, I seriously prefer HTC this time...

if im not mistaken,8X is having better screen resolution and beats audio only, the rest are same as lumia820, which included the cpu, gpu, ram.
And lumia 820 is having carl zeiss lens with 8mp shooter, dolby sounds, and expandable memory card slot

all in all i guess lumia820 much worthy with the offered price lol
but ofcuz it's down to consumers preference anyway

If 8s price tag as lumia620. Sure will attract more buyers.

This taiwanese marketing failed again.
Nokia won the battle in the low range window8.

HTC actually builds good phones. the main reason it fails i think it's because HTC's sense of branding is not strong enough.
when you talk about smartphones, apple and samsung comes into mind. stuff like that.

i think they need to do more hardcore promo, make the price a bit more competitive, have a beautiful and pretentious flagship store like Apple, Samsung, Nokia (?). good reviews and stuff can only get you certain sales from the spec-crazy techies. they need a stronger branding image for the mass. but then again i'm not a business/marketing dude. just opinion from my observation and gut feelings.

my rm0.01.

Considering this post is almost dead, so either there are very few users of the HTC 8X in Malaysia or the users have nothing to complain about and hence are happy about their devices. Which is it, any users care to comment and provide some feedback? smile.gif

Don't get offended.

My experience with the very first Windows Phone 8 was my HTC Windows Phone 8X and its sucks.

The most basic tool is File Manager or File Explorer and you can't find it either on the phone or from Store.

Camera is good and can shoot good quality photo. Phone sold after using it for one and half month.

File manager as like what they used to have in Sony Ericsson phones?

I would say it has less to do with the phone and more to do with the mobile operating system which is windows mobile 8.

Hi guys,

Just browsing through the group about the phone and the OS. I got my free HTC 8X yesterday during the HTC One Launching Event from the mini games held there. Just opened it and play around for a while, and I am quite impressed with the smoothness of it (Maybe it's just me i guess). Now I dunno whether I want to use it as a backup phone (since using android phone) or sell it.. smile.gif

There are some issues with other HTC devices, but this HTC 8X seems to have very little issues if any smile.gif

Don't really hear complaints. If there are complaints, it's about things like there are not enough of apps in windows 8 or the screen is not big enough. Those are not issues with the phone itself, just people's expectations. What the phone promises, it delivers smile.gif

waze is alright, i feel it more superior to nokia drive.

the issue with my 8x is the gps is really wonky when the day is cloudy.
waze keeps on showing no GPS.
maybe it;s only me.

but when it works, then it works.

love Waze's BoyBand voice navigation the most.hehe
