wow... Alex.., Nice to see you here. hahaha. Is me, Raymond (60D user). how was ur Jelly bean leak version? it run well in ur S3? I would rather wait for the official next month. hahaha

Hi Raymond. I am back to stock unrooted kernel. Funny thing is the battery seems to perform better and better as the phone ages. I think it is hitting a sweet spot and until now my battery is 41% with active use since morning. I am really loving this phone and still think it pawns the hell out of the iPorn 5. tongue.gif

I wonder why a lot of people roots their phones with custom ROM for longer battery life when even stock ROM can provide very good battery life.

show us the screen time, no use if battery life 3 days and screen time is 10 minutes
that mean you just dont use your phone, you just leave it alone on the table somewhere, which normal people dont,

Okay. Here goes the latest screen captures with screen time.

bro.. doesnt that mean that you are only actively using the phone 42mins out of the 1d 4h? mine is easily in excess of that.. and having said that.. the S3 screen burns through battery..

haha.. without some battery management (eg juice defender) or some custom kernels.. I cant last through the day without a charge

Well, that's what is says. But I do check emails, SMS, call plus WhatsApp quite regularly every day. My habit of locking the screen manually must be helping then. smile.gif

So I presume the idle battery drain is the same irregardless of whichever ROM but the modded ROM can provide better screen time performance? Am I correct to say that?

I think what alexlimco is asking is JUST FOR THE SAKE of battery life, people flash custom ROMs. right?

well, it does kind of make sense as well that rooting and flashing a custom ROM 'might' save you some battery life. Because by rooting it allows the removal of a lot of software that could be eating your battery life or actually finding out in the first place which software is eating away juice.

In other words, if we literally removed ALL networking apps like viber/facebook or even the samsung softwares like the updates and accounts, of course logically battery life will be better right? That is an extreme example of course...

Though some apps can be removed without root, I think BBS and TiBU requires root to be used to it's fullest advantage.

The best reply I have had so far. Thank you very much for the input. I have rooted before and installed custom ROMS like Wannam, CheckROM and others but did not find much difference in battery performance. So much so, I have gone back to stock ROM so that I do not miss out on the updates from Samsung. Probably the kiasi side of me. tongue.gif

As for bloatware and others, well, I can live with that. smile.gif
