QUOTE(tehoice @ Sep 4 2010, 03:36 PM)
very nice tank there you have!!! so big your tank, why dont add some tangs?? blue or yellow...?

Added on September 4, 2010, 8:24 pmi'm so itching to get a marine tank... but that gonna cost me a bomb... must start saving bit by bit...

Added on September 4, 2010, 9:43 pmanother quick question please.

what do u guys use to test the water parameter? do u test all of them? nitrate, nitrites, and all....

what about salinity? is there 1 reader that can provide all function? lol... sounds so greedy...

how often do u test the water parameter....? if you change your water weekly or once every 2 weeks, is that necessary to test most of them??

from what i understand, the most important part is the nitrate cycle, so what parameter do i have to take into consideration here? thanks!!!
*
actually my tank just completed cycling. noticed some pods when i rescaped the rocks. and test for my nitrate is at 40 ppm... so, i guess the anaerobic activity is yet to happen in my DSB(deep sand bed). although it may look very nice, and test shows none on amonia and nitrite, i'd still be very skepticle. my tank hasn't matured yet. that may take a while. until then i won't add any expensive fish. will addin an additional canister in a week. and also the lighting DIY.. then, i'll probab add one or 2 anemone. will keep updated.. thanks.

Nice rockscaping  biggrin.gif  So envy that you could maintain the temperature @ 26.5c with a single fan...was the tank placed inside air conditioned room?
*
Thanks bro... my house is in gotong jaya.. so, at night my temp drops to 23-24 without the fan. whistling.gif
hehe.. no air conditioner.

QUOTE(bukanmain @ Sep 5 2010, 05:44 AM)
im used the same fan..also maintain 26.4 day light..but on nano tank 1.5ft..so u 3footer to get that temp so good!
*
my tank is actually 100 gallon.. 4X2X20". nod.gif thanks bro..

Hi,

Just trying to setup a nano tank... bought few items from East Aqua yesterday and now waiting for the tank to run for a week before testing the KH... they told me to get KH 10 before start putting fishes inside...

My nano tank is about 4 gallon... planning to put couple of fishes and an anemone... I read that I need mini chiller, probably check it out later at LFS... anything that I miss out? Does my nano tank need mini wave generator too? Please do guide me the right way, thanks...

Some pictures of my setup

Is this your first time keeping a fish tank? ever heard of "nitrogen cycle", "new tank syndrome".....
If not please google those words first.....
I'm afraid u might ending losing your fish again & again later.....
For new tank setup, other than correct salinity your main concern is just to establish a complete & stable "nitrogen cycle" before adding any livestock........

Basically KH (carbonate hardness) functions is to stabilize PH from swinging upside down....
PH in a reef tank (coral) increase on daylight due to photosynthesis which consume CO2 and vice versa at night.....
PH swing is not good for marine livestock even though by 1 unit...
This is the reason why reefer dosing kalkwasser/limewater in their tank..to get stable PH....

For fish only tank, maintaining stable PH & KH is not a problem....

P/S: This is why i prefer to read more rather than listen to Fish Shop keeper..... wink.gif

For tank of your size, mini chiller still can be effective....forget about it if your tank 2 feet & above....

Yea, I didn't plan to put any fish yet as I'm letting the tank cycling now. That is why I'm sharing my plans and hope to get some proper guide... not planning to put corals... just 2-3 fishes, 1 shrimp (cleaner?), 1 live rock and hopefully 1 anemone... i do aware anemone very sensitive and planning to put that at later stage, probably you guys can help out...

I did read some guide in Chui Sui forum, a lot of technical terms and I'm struggling to catch up... how do I perform test for NH4, NO2, NO3, PO4?

u can also google those technicle terms to find what it means.. or just ask.. i'm sure some of us will gladly explain it..

if u're gonna keep FOT(fish only tank) or FOWLR(fish only with live rock) then u really dun have to be worrying too much about all those test performing so early through the cycle..

u can put in the LR(live rock) now, it'll help u cycle the tank a lil faster. but not too fast.. when ur water start showin slight yellow tint, then u can be sure that nitrogen cycle is pretty much established, hence nitrate(NO3) produced.

by this time, it'll be around 4-5 weeks.. u can put 1 or two small hardy fish to help ur tank take some baby steps towards maturing.

u'll definately need to do 'proper' WC(water change) to eliminate Nitrate and Phosphate. both these elements can be the root of the algae problem. so, u need to keep them at check.

u really dun need to be worrying about mini chiller if budget is a constrain.. if not, by all means go ahead. thumbup.gif

A fan will work just fine.. but the noise can be a pain.. evaporation is not a big deal.. just top up fresh water(no need salt). coz salt does not evaporate.

just add LR in my tank smile.gif

Here's a new updated pic of my tank in progress.. i set up a temporary T5 lighting hood till i get the Led lighting done.

user posted image

added few anemones and they already started eating.. will try to add some corals in a month or so after my led lightings are done. also added two dwarf angels(coral beaty and half black)

my clarkii clown is terribly protective over my BTA.. chases and bites my hand even if i put my hand in to do some maintanance work..

will be adding a few YT today or tomorrow.. hopefully..

Did you use phosphate remover? Remove your phosphate to zero... before algae bloom in your aquarium..

Clean your sand/live rock from uneaten food/waste.
