guys, need help here.. what do i need to look out for when buying rod/reel. afaik rod can either be used for sea/kelong or lake/pond but not both but reel can be used both ways...

With RM300 like Bro inv said, if you not too branded then you can have a whole setup with line for less than that.
Problem is,.. you need to hunt for the rods or ask the shop keeper to help you to match.

Assume you bottom bashing and not wanting to risk of losing any fishes MH rod would ngam you (10-20lbs or 12lbs - 25lbs)
Plenty of reels out there to sample, places like digital in Puchong display all the reels for you to test.
You probably need a 3000 series reel at least or a 4000 reel. Make sure its good for salty water smile.gif
Cant tell you which brand to use or buy, we are not shop owners smile.gif you need to hunt for the rods.

I have a Ofmer Kewl 4000 to let go if you interested.

although looks nicer refined and slim down... i still keep a gen 1 revo for it's brute power, and go alphas for finnesse. hopefully with the new revos out, the older ones will get some price slash then time to get a revo toro pairing with a crostage / salty rod... so that can join you guys for the OFB trips.. hehheh...

like satu ringgit said, 10-20lb rod will be good, i find some cheaper rod below 100 actually feels much better than those 100-200 branded rod, really, pick the rod, put the reel in and feel for ur self.
as for reel, if saltwater is a must, make sure it wont get rust if kena saltwater, u can check with the shopowner. someone in this forum recommended me ryobi arctica, go for 3000 or 4000, never regretted having it, somemore not so expensive, definitely below 200, go for a rod around 100, but u have to fork out a bit for a better line though.

unfortunately we couldnt get a bigger boat, so the biggest boatman having now can accomodate 6 ppl nia, including boatman.
we're fishing around port klang area, and his so called personal spot of good sizes red snapper. cost around close to 100 a person, definitely less than that, includes life prawns and boat rental only, drinks and food sendiri kautim, i myself will get some tesco prawn and a bit of kembong as bait as well. viox, if we count u in, ngam ngam, do confirm if u really going ya. thx

Possibly it is smile.gif In regards to the new rod I can't say much..never seen or felt it yet.. But in my case, for entry level to BC, this rod does the trick for me.. smile.gif of course in future will get a better one after mastering BC.

3 person on the fiber boat is just nice. just make sure you don't do side casting.

side casting + cbh/snag = someone gonna get hurt real bad.

Added on October 12, 2012, 7:51 pmand if u have your own paddles, pls bring your own.
