For starter, this thread will be forwarded to a less popular segment on Laptop and PDA by our mod here...

I've purchased this laptop for my cousin and i do remember pointing out the so called recovery CD lacked a lot of stuffs which you personally have to do the download of softpaq.exe from HP Compaq support page.

As for the built-in graphics, it's NOT even a MOBILITY, just Radeon 128... just that. With 1GB of RAM, sharing it up to 128MB would be more than enough for typical office works and some light gaming.

The HDD provided is the 5400rpm type so please bear with the speed here. But quick format would have never been that pain-in-the-ass slow unless you are doing a thorough format which is not a good thing to do when the HDD is empty and new (no point doing it THOROUGH).

32-bit software compatibility is never a problem with any AMD Athlon64 and their derivatives.

Well, please take note if there are any bulge on the keyboard area, lower left area, left of the touchpad where the bottom is suppose to be the HDD area. The one i've got seems to have a bulge there and the surface is rather uneven which seems like the mis-snap of the plastic chassis contribute to that bulge. If you happen to have a bulge, please tell the seller to remove the HDD and resnap the plastic properly before remounting the HDD back.

I believe the RM3199 is the Linux Package but the driver provided in the CD are suppose to be designated for WinXP, so you better install WinXP into the lappy before attempting to install any of the provided driver.

Please take note that the Radeon 128 VGA driver isn't provided by any of the downloadable SOFTPAQ.exe from HP Compaq website but instead you'll have to get it from www.ati.com and get the latest ATI Catalyst 6.2 sans the CCC (Catalyst Control Center) and must be preinstalled with Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or above. The CCC is optional but i personally don't think it's necessary. If you wished to have it then take the big package from ATI with Catalyst + CCC.

Afterall, this unit is meant for Desktop replacement, never a wise idea to lug around this heavyweight for mobility purposes. Besides, the battery life isn't juicy enough for WiFi experience totally unplugged. But you always have the option of turning the Power Scheme to MAX BATTERY to actually see how Cool'n'Quiet aka AMD PowerNOW! works in maximum battery conservation mode.
