Is it safe to plug iPad into power 24/7?

Why do u need to plug 24x7? Battery will kaput within a year. A fully charged iPad can last up to 2 days if u not watching movies or playing music. Mine is new iPad 4G, battery can last 2 days with normal usage.

My bro's iPad2 died yesterday - always plug to AC outlet. Now can't even power up. Only power up when AC is connected. I suspect either battery or some charging circuit kaput. Will send in for warranty next week.
