I pre-ordered. Will go in during the weekends to collect. I will exchange my Singtel sim to activate the iPhone and try cutting Maxis micro sim using the PDF I posted.

being first or second or last batch has nothing to do with being guinea pigs. The design of iPhone 5 will not be changed mid course for any reasons or else they will have a recall. Look at the iPhone 4. Therefore potential iPhone buyers will still buy iPhone 5 regardless.

Not necessarily. The micro sim card was available from Maxis before iPhone 4 was due. It is a chance for the telcos to test compatibility of nano sim cards for the mass in their system, and make due modification for their network if necessary.

Glesecke & Devrient is the designer for the nano sim, of course they will say cannot cut what. They earn royalties with each nano sim sold. Notice the emphasis of the reason they made in the article regarding the difference in thickness. Moreover if a nano to micro sim adapter allows a nano sim to work in a micro-sim phone, that essentially mean the nano sim chip can work as a mico sim as long as contact point of the sim is placed properly. I'm quite positive about the prospect.

I think the best sim card to use is an actual micro sim card, as it has the modern smaller chip. Don't use a DIY micro sim because it may not have the smaller chip as genuine micro sims do. If you do, you may have to cut into the chip to make it smaller.

Even if you are successful in modding, it doesn't mean it will work in the iPhone 5, but I'm very hopeful. So no harm practice your cutting skill with other sim cards first.
