Guys, urgent question. Anyone working in Singtel? I'm in negotiation for the role of Asst Mgr position within the company and its quite a step down from my current level (Technical Manager level) in KL.

However, post-conversion, the pay is probably higher, although am not too sure how much will be able to save.

Anyone working there? what's the working culture like? Long hours (don't particularly mind but would like to be prepared). Lots of politics?

Don't accept anything lower than sgd0.8 : myr1.0. you should really aim for somewhere around the region of sgd0.9-sgd1.1 : myr1.0.

So lets say for arguments sake am earning 8+K in KL, the lowest I would be looking at should be SGD $7k?

So, no one working in Singtel? Looking at it from Glassdoor, seems like not too many Singaporeans are happy with the company, especially at mid-management level lol.

You need to train your presentation and speaking skills if you want a good job, especially in SG.

As you already know, SG is much more competitive than Malaysia, so to be honest you can't just rock up to the interview and expect to be hired on account of your results. Soft skills plays a far more important role in today's world.

Try to look for courses, or join the Toastmasters. It will be a big help to your career if you can speak confidently and express your opinions clearly.

Guys, looks like I will be working at Singtel in the near future.

It'll be based in Comcentre, along Exeter Rd near Somerset MRT.

It's quite a well-paid job, and I gather there will be some among of overtime.

Assuming I rent nearby (room in a D09 and D10 Condo) within walking distance, do you think the additional cost will make up for the savings in Public Transport cost? Of course MRT is cheap, but if I have to get a cab back during late nights it'll be quite expensive.

Define "well paid." Different people have different definitions of "well paid" so we'd easily end up giving you totally incorrect advice.

Fair enough.

Salary yet to be finalized but has been communicated it will be in the range of 6-7k+ per month.

It isn't "high" by any stretch of the imagination but decent for a single.

Hi everyone, I'm currently working as an bank officer in kl with 3++ years experience and I'd like to get some opinions from all of you for the relocation to sg due to the reason of my bf has decided to settle down in sg as he has been working in sg for 3++ years...

My questions are as follows:
1) should I get a job first in sg then resign or look for a job in sg after resign as it will be quite tough for me to travel to sg for interview due to my long hours working time/hard to get leaves applied less than 1 week approved by manager
2) anyone or your friends working in sg banks could advise me the appropriate range of expected salary for my experience?
3) is it hard to get employed by sg banks for Malaysian?

Thank you!!! smile.gif  notworthy.gif

1) Get a job first in Sg unless your BF willing to support you. In fact, strongly advise you to get a job first as anything can happen - especially if u guys suddenly break up and you haven't secured job yet...
2) Depends on your job scope. Are you in operations, or in loans, or in Treasury. Different department have different payscale. Also depends on your previous employer - big difference if you are ex-Citi, or ex-UOB/OCBC (at least SG bank) vs ex-RHB or Hong Leong.
3) Yes and no. If your skill is a very common one - let's say manning the counter in a branch or as a PFC (personal financial consultant) then you better stay in KL. If you have a specialized skill such as bank product manager, IT, operations (especially trade ops) then its not too hard.

i know right..currently still in the process of preparing my resume. I know the interviews are gonna be tough, but... just try to apply first and see if i managed to get call for interview.

btw im graduated from australia, business degree, major in acct and finance. Prefer to join oversea banks compared to local ones. To be honest, i have good grades and CGPA of 3.5 but when it comes to relevant or specialized skills, duhhh i have no working experience relating to accounting/finance/investment! And i'm not really clear about current finance issue in msia or singapore, i guess this thing would put me into great disadvantage sad.gif But I'm reading on some finance magazines to brush myself up with all those current issues, hopefully it helps.

one more thing, what position can a freshgrad apply as for their first job? Most of my degree coursemates which are working in msia local banks, mostly working under sales banking (ie sell credit card or some sort of banking marketing job), basic salary rm2.8k. Is this the entry job for freshgrad? need to start off with marketing stuffs before getting into credit or loan department etc? o.o and whats the salary range for freshgrad in sg?

Apply for fresh talent fast-track program if you have good grades.
Can't go wrong if you wanna join banking.
