I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't go through this entire thread, so I'll just quickly ask here.

What's the best way to transfer SGD back to MY? So far I've always just withdrawn S$1000 notes from the bank in SG, then bring back to KL and exchange at the money changer, then deposit into bank. But if it's for larger amounts, handling so much cash at once in KL is a bit... unadvisable perhaps.

Is there an easier way to do it without getting raped by exchange rates?

Are you suggesting using remittance services? I didn't particularly like those since the exchange rate is lower than the physical money changer.

I think is better rate to change in SG and bring the RM back to KL. Or you can use remittance (with a small fee, should be free if >$5000 if not mistaken). Raffles money changer have that service. Haven't  tried that before myself.

Actually the reason I change in KL is because it's easier (physically) to manage and bring back 5-10 pieces of $1000 notes rather than a huge bundle of RM50 or RM100. Remittance, as mentioned above, the rates aren't great no?

FYI, the remittance rate (via raffles money changer) is higher than the exchange rate.
The only downside is that you need to pay the S$10 for processing/admin charge.
Save you lots of trouble and do not have to worry getting robbed midway.
*
Really? I guess I should check out this Raffles Money Changer then. The $10 is OK, small fee if transferring a few thousand at a go. Thanks!

*EDIT*
By the way, for remittance, you need certain details of the receiving bank like official bank name, address, branch code, etc right? I can't seem to find this on CIMB's website. Anyone have a link to the official info? Else I'll have to get someone at home in KL to call them up.

Since you changed at KL, i guess you dont mind on the rate? KL rate should be lower than SG rate? hmm.gif
*
The KL rate is slightly lower yeah, in the few times I changed, maybe 0.01-0.02 difference. But at that time I didn't bother since wasn't changing large amount.

Well you can't have one cake and eat it too.

Do you get $1000 note in the bank (teller) ? Normally the ATM dispense $50, hardly even see $100 except in casino ATM.
*
Yeah I know, but no harm asking. tongue.gif Yes I go to the bank, line up at the teller, then request to withdraw in $1000 notes.
