hi to all the brother and sister,

Recently i was getting a job offer as project engineer in SG. However, i have a question regarding the EP. I'm a fresh graduate in degree. I do not have the letter of study completion and all the semester transcript. My university is at Sabah where it is expensive for me to go back. My convo is at next week and i'm not going back. I request my uni to post back the cert and transcript for me. But it takes time.

So, can i start working while waiting my cert posted to me?

Guys, I got an job offer at Woodland, planning to stay at JB after settle down, is that a good option? What time need to leave from home as my working hour starts from 9am? How long does it takes travel from JB to Woodland?  hmm.gif
*
good idea if you plan to save but do not mind burning a few hours each day of your life away jamming at causeway. also the potential victim of snatch theft or robbers. the risk of being mugged, stabbed, kidnap, rape?, etc etc. Go ahead and stay in JB.

OBJECTION  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  JB not that bad la..la.. like any other cities Penang, KL, or even S'pore just need to know, which area and where (high risk spot) to avoid lo..

Avoid clubbing in JB. I gave up the very first day i resided in JB. reason:- not safe  rclxub.gif the only place i find safe to booze..ing in JB is 'TGIF'
*
Of coz it's not that bad. It's still safer than South Africa.

yeah.... JB is not that bad. agree with u.

Also the travel time is not that bad either. they keep saying waste 2-3 hours a day. but they never calculate the time spend even when you stay in SG.
For example. You stay in Sengkang, work in raffles place, you need to spend around 45 mins MRT ride. If you stay in JB, lets say u ride a bike, you only need around 1 1/2 hours to reach office (sometimes earlier).
in total you only spend 45 mins more compare to your SG counterpart, but in return, you get cheap rent, cheap petrol, freedom to move around.

and

I reached office in under 15mins. I'll choose taking an MRT/bus anytime over bike if it takes an hour or more to reach the destination. Bike isn't the safest mode of transport to begin with but I'll save that for another post.

Actually, in malaysia all those big city got all these snap thieves and so on problem, singapore safety is very good compare to malaysia, so staying in JB must bare the risk of facing all those problem, you also can find those news in malaysia newspaper then you know how serious it is. whistling.gif
*
Snap what ? You mean like spycam ? We have those in Sg as well, actively snapping away.

How long does it takes assuming I am staying in Jalan Ah Siang and work at woodland industrial park e1? Normal working hour, 9-6pm. Any idea?
*
you are assuming that we are supposed to know where is Jln Ah Siang ? crossing the causeway is a nightmare during 6-8pm on weekdays

Ok thx for the info.

If i rent a room starting at 15h nov, that's mean i need to pay half month rental or full month rental? Because i have to decide when to start working. If i have to pay full month, it's not worth right? since i only get half month salary. If i pay at 15th nov and last until 15th Dec. It still a pain for me = = because i have to take the half month salary to pay for next month.

This month only left few days, i afraid i have not enough time to get a room.
*
I don't think you could get a room starting from mid of the month. You could always start at 1st of Dec. Well, good luck anyway.

I got a job offer for SGD2500 near Ang Mo Kio. Do you think it's enough for me to save like SGD800 per month? How much tax do Malaysians have to pay?
*
quite a number of folks here have that salary range. budget a bit, resist all the temptations and saving up to s$800 per month is possible.
Malaysian or not, all pay taxes based on the same calculations.

*
why would he bother to check it since with the bad economies now, sure a lot of other job applicants from reputable local Uni. You could accept the salary offered and start working while hunting for better paying job elsewhere

Wow.. Seems like I hit a nerve there  hmm.gif

Sorry if i've offended you, maybe I didn't really grasp the full picture of a foreigner working in SG.

I'm a Singaporean, but i do have a handful of colleagues from Indo and Malaysia who are getting around the range of 2.7k SGD.

And also a handful getting 1.4k to 1.6k, doing factory shift work.

We do talk finance sometimes and I gather that they are doing pretty fine.

Maybe you can cut down on your food spending.. Just what do you feast on?

$1000/30 is more than 30$ a day, even $800/30 is about 30$ a day.
*
no worries. his view(s) does not represent the rest of us. in fact, he have a reputation of being a troll. a lot of ppl is surviving and managed to save up with a monthly salary of <$2.5k / month. it's all about lifestyle.

"Good Life" means different things to different people lor. Some people are satisfied with food court kopi. Others won't consider themselves having a good life unless they are having starbucks, going to gym, playing badminton, etc every day icon_idea.gif
*
The interpretion really depends on individual. I've heard a Malaysian banker here who recently bought a $200k engagement diamond ring for her fiancé. For him, I'm sure he's leading an'good life' as well.

Note: I dont drink nor club...So you can save alot on that.
*
Ppl survived, no matters what. Just a need to adapt, that's all.

Is it not an option down there? care to enlighten me? If i have a family will it make sense then?

I tried to have meal at work place as often as I could. Lunch S$2.20 for fish/meat/vege combo. You could have 3 fishes, 3 meat or 3 vege only.. Same price. Normally I go for 1 fish 2 meat smile.gif . Fruits 30 cents per slice . Free Chinese tea / coffee / tea. . Very clean air cond cafeteria. I think home cook still more expensive than that.
