NIce..

a noob question... can the NFC tag sustain the heat from inside the car? i am planning to use it to activate my bluetooth / gps apps while driving. (ie: stick the NFC tag near the dashboard)

Thank you.

sure can, it is just a piece of chip, nothing that is not heat sensitive

i use AnyTag NFC Launcher to tag the touch n go card in my car so that every time i scan the touch n go card it will automatic on GPS, off wifi, on 3G, on data connection then navigate to my home, today i just tested it and it work :claps:

then at my home i stick my old student ID under the corner of my table to every time i go home i just tag it then it will disable 3G, disable mobile data, disable GPS and on WiFi

the app dont really program or override the NFC, but it scan, read and identify the tag ID and then tell the phone what to do when it scan the tag ID every time according to the task list

interesting...

din know mykad and touch &go are nfc tags, till I saw the apps description mention them. I guess those contact-less card chips are nfc tags.

I stuck one in my car, just underneath the radio. It has been there for a couple of months now. So far so good, the chip is still functioning and it is still stuck there. The quality of the sticker helps too I guess.

I wouldn't know if it's still working if placed on top of the dashboard, under direct sunlight. Never tried that.

Every chip has temperature ratings. You can find them in the datasheet.

One day i was doing some work and put my phone on top of my wallet and it beeps. I was so scared and repeated it many many times and it beeps. Even restarted my phone and still the beeping goes.

Only after several long minutes did i realise it was scanning my Mykad in my wallet haha tongue.gif

Since that it occur to me the possibilities are endless. Wish one day I dont have to carry a wallet anymore and can pay for things via my phone thumbup.gif

to be honest, NFC is solely a re-packaged version of contactless chips...nothing more than that, the only difference is that the readers are linked to the phone and is further processed from there...though in theory, any phone with USB OTG enabled should be able to install and use contactless readers, provided it has the drivers for it...

but as for, it being able to read the MyKad, i am somewhat skeptical about it, as I believe the MyKad is solely a contact chip..the MyKad has TnG on it, high chance it is reading that instead..

ya, i think so... contactless chips... usually no need to show itself. the exposed chip we see on MyKad is actually for the main MyKad purpose.

We run a local based NFC online store selling NFC tags, readers, SDKs and so far the response is really encouraging. So we believe this technology has a potential to grow in Malaysia.

Here is one practical NFC usage. A DIY NFC enhanced phone slip case:

Do you sell SDK for Linux? I only see you mention Windows API/IDE in your website sad.gif

I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 64bit.

You don't need to buy expensive NFC new tags in order to achieve this usages. Just grab AnyTAG NFC Launcher from Google Play, it is free and I believe you will enjoy it.

Link to Google Play Store

btw, I'm author/owner of AnyTAG. Idea/bug report are welcome. tongue.gif

Unfortunately we don't have SDK for Linux sad.gif

The reader itself supports Linux though.
Maybe you want to checkout open source libraries like libnfc.org?

Well it was my first week after having the S3 and I was really dumbfounded by the beeping sound. Wasnt aware of the such vast array of NFC use at that time. I was like Wow this phone is scanning my Mykad/TnG card for real haha.

Anyways I am still wishing this can be an alternative to carrying wallet anywhere but I do realise security issue is still loom large especially here in Malaysia.

Malaysia's Touch 'n Go to introduce NFC payments
http://www.zdnet.com/malaysias-touch-n-go-...nts-7000001005/

Malaysian electronic payment provider Touch 'n Go has been trialling near-field communication phone payments which it will introduce to its customers in two months' time, according to local report.

Touch 'n Go CEO Abdul Karim Md Lassim said the company has been piloting NFC smartphone apps with mobile operator Maxis and bank CIMB to allow customers to use their mobile devices as a Touch 'n Go card, The Sun Daily reported Monday.

Touch 'n Go is Malaysia's contactless payment card used for public transport payments in the capital Kuala Lumpur and for highway toll payments in the peninsula Malaysia. It is also accepted as a payment mode at some restaurants, fast food outlets and movie theaters.

Not including the investment by Maxis and CIMB, Abdul Karim said the company invested over half a million ringgit (US$156,076) to develop the NFC services.

The CEO said it also plans to offer the service with other telecommunication companies as well after six months.
