Hello, I am science-streamed stpm student with cgpa 3.08, who recently gotten my upu result. I get selected for UUM for bachelor of media technology with honours. I want to listen to opinions and feedbacks from seniors and students that are currently studying in this university, preferably for whose studying same programme as mine. I want to know more about this university as well as other questions like:
Does the programme; bachelor of media technology with honours has any worth in here?( for example like: the syllabus and courses are much better implemented in other uni compared in here,so you better go there to study that).
How is the lecturers? (Are they passionate and good in what they doing?)
Do we have to wear formal attires like shirt and ties all the time? ( i am too casual and only wear ties for certain occasion)
How's the internet connection and coverage?
AND also what u can gain form this programme( do you get employed or you get the job opposite to what youu studied for the programme in the university)
Right now, i am in dilemma whether or not i have to go with the choice of programme since the offer given is 6th choice i put in the blank. I prefer art and science adjacent programmes. So when i receive the offer, i get bummed down and dont know what to do next.
So any anecdotes, honest feedbacks, opinions are appreciated. I'm welcome every advices offered to help out to remedify and get clear a little of this hiccup.Thank you
oh well.... I'm not so active in this forum as before....
I hope you enrolled to UUM despite no opinions from here (2 months after your queries).
I'm no anywhere near your field of study, I'm from Statistics.
1) As for syllabus and courses from universities (perhaps not all, but including UUM) have written in their websites,
you can compare it on your own and do some research on it.
2) formal attire is a must (if you enrolled you would've known) as it's a training so that you get used to formal attire before you are released into the industries (though they are some workplace now just do casual attire at work)
3) internet connection every sem got people complain, but also got people not affected. would be nice if you have personal unlimited data (or high quota package) as it would come in handy if anything happens like network or power outage.
4) the job you get not necessarily related to the field you study (unless you are going for certain professionals like accountant/engineer/medical doctor), if you like what you study, you may apply for job that related to your studies as you can apply what you learned (not wasted), but if there are no job opening, you probably have to find work in other field rite? Say you are very excel in programming, then there will be companies hunting for you instead of the other way round. Make sure you got the value people want to hire is more important than what you trying to fit into the missing piece of the puzzle. My STPM tuition teacher once told me his student took a degree in minor course, but got professional ACCA cert and working as Accountant (Degree? checked. Professional cert? checked.).
5) as for teaching force, every uni got their own share of strict lecturers and also lazy easy going lecturers, even some guailan lecturers. It's your attitude that lecturers will observe. I always maintained good interactions with my lecturers, and one of them even helped to pass my Finals. If you just go in classes, sit there diam diam, no interactions, do and submit assignments, you would probably be like that when you are in the industry. Sit there, do daily job/report, 5pm sau gong, balik rumah, eat sleep repeat.
Personal words:
I haven't got any idea to work as what when I enrolled to UUM, joining activities, committees, and all the experiences made me decided what I wanted to do at my final year study. Then I decided to go for academic path, hence now taking PhD (for job qualification fulfillment). Don't rush to decide what you will become, things will change your mindset along the road, let it be in UUM or in other institute you enrolled to.
Enjoy the degree life, don't just, sleep eat assg class repeat. Go have fun, not just playing phone games, I mean go join activities, all interactions will have impact to you even without you knowing it. Some will cultivate leadership quality, some will foster cooperative willingness, make use of the 3.5 years to create value in yourself.
ALL THE BEST
