Thanks for the info. I read regarding the room size before somewhere so I guess it's out from my list. Hmmm... What will you recommend then? Regarding 2.0 vs 2.1 bass, I think 2.0 produce better bass. But can the bass shake the room like 2.1? I guess not right? But will they go loud and kicking? Well, the new Edifier R2800 get my attention but they are freaking huge on a table. sweat.gif
*
neither 2.0 nor 2.1 produce better bass... it's depend on the model and the driver used... i assume better bass mean well controlled and deep low bass here tongue.gif

but if u mean the amount of bass and the power and body of the bass, well 2.1 wif a subwoofer definitely has the upper hand... but if jz for music, the amount of bass produce by 2.0 is sufficient... but yeah, whn it come to movies especially DTS audio, u will really like a subwoofer ^^

My mobo have DTS thingy. Will it work with the speaker when I use DAC or I need DTS DVD etc? I mostly watch those downloaded video. BTW, Ibasso just confirm me that D42 can be use as a standalone DAC for PC. Hopefully they didn't misread my inquiry and I really can't wait to test out D42 Mamba. A portable DAC/ amp which I can use for my headphone and mobile.
*
well, normally for DTS, i use the dtsdecoder from arcsoft and decode it to PCM and pass them to the DAC...
cause if u really wan to pass as DTS, ur DAC/av receiver/amp to speaker, everything has to be DTS certified. if not the DTS chain will break.
for more info u can see my blog: http://casualnfunentertainment.blogspot.co...der-for-pc.html

and the picture quality for blu ray playback on PC, it depend on ur pc spec, if u hav an i3 processor or above, thn use madvr + lav.
if u hav a not too bad nvidia gc as well, use madvr + lav + avisynth.
if low spec pc, jz use evr + lav.

movie or music source file must have encoded DTS in stereo or surround.
the DAC u buy mostly just do stereo

Can beat C3?
c3 is something much weaker than its outlook sweat.gif
*
even the DAC do hav 7.1 surround but i doubt it has DTS certified...

that's why for me, i think the most easy way is to decode the DTS with Sonic / ArcSoft DTS decoder and pass the audio stream as pcm or other loseless format... unless i get myself a dts certified av receiver XD

i actually satisfy wif the C3, for a speaker tat cost RM420 2 years bac... it's quite a nice 2.1 speaker... dun compare wif 2.0 speaker though XD

Recently I downloade a wav file, then split it using the cue file, then when I play shown is DTS file, anyway to downmix to stereo or convert it? Help sifu notworthy.gif
*
if u wan playback, jz get a dts plugin for foobar and use the downmix channel to stereo available in the DSP of foobar.

for splitting and conversion audio file, if anything involve DTS i recommend use audiomuxer and select the dtsdecoder from arcsoft.

With similar price, can I get something better than M200MKIII?
*
something within the same price range, i did say audioengine a5+. i wont said it's better since both of them sound different and hav their own pros n cons. u hav to try them out urself and decide it. but jz remember not to get the older audioengine a5.

but if jz look alone mk3 sure look better.

Apple store Machines at Mid Valley used to have them... Not sure if they still have it or not
I personally think Focal XS book is rubbish compared to the B&W MM-1
*
b&w mm-1 hav a built in DAC while focal xs dun hav. do u test the focal xs wif an equivalent DAC? i will try go over to MV machines to see whether they still hv it or not. ^^ i wonder how machines let ppl test out their speaker? never test any speaker at machine b4.

QUOTE(D_Y2k.4^ @ Jul 16 2013, 02:58 PM)
It depends on the music genre you listen to. Focal Book XS has a very neutral sound and has very rich mids. Pretty good for desktop speakers.

But the limitation would be the lows.
*
hi bro, u seem to be selling a lot of nice speakers. do u hav an audition room at kl?

then I still gotta say the m200mkiii wins due to the midranges (and bass... cuz focal xs book has no bass) (in fact Creative T20 has more bass than Focal XS Book)
I have no idea how to use the internal dac in B&W MM-1 (in fact I don't even know it existed)

I know the Focal XS 2.1 had an ipod dock
Focal XS book doesn't

I gotta say my source was decent (T-Muso USB DAC)
and I tested 3 of them, the Focal XS book is definitely a joke to me
*
B&W mm-1 gt a built in DAC. to use it, it is very easy, jz plug the usb to ur laptop. if u use the aux port thn it will bypass the internal DAC.

so u tested out the focal xs book & b&w mm-1 all at machines MV? i think i may go over there tis sat to try them out ^^ especially focal xs book ^^ hopefully they are still there & i m able to find a nice spot to sit down and test them.

from ur saying, it seem like u r a bass head. u cant really say a speaker wif low bass is call bad XD u can jz say tat it is not to ur preferences. if like tat most of kef speaker is bad cause their bass are not solid. b&w speaker is more of a balance type speaker.

i wont really say t-muso is decent source. it is jz one of the most basic DAC available tat only support up to 16/48.

QUOTE(diaBoliQu3 @ Jul 16 2013, 08:21 PM)
Forget to tell Focal XS Book... Hehe... Thanks for the info.

you have to test to understand my friend... notworthy.gif
I'm more of a person who wants neutrality than bass tongue.gif

The Focal XS book is definitely thin sounding. It is soulless
The mids are present and that's it. Bone dry mids paired with harsh trebles

The B&W MM-1 doesn't have bass at all too. But it's rich powerfully natural mids accommodates it's weaknesses and turns it into a decent natural piece.
well since you're testing out stuffs in Machines at mid valley, I would give you an example of another poorly designed speaker.
Go test out the Bose Companion 5 as well. (definitely bass powerful)

Bose Companion 5 is tuned in a very strong "U" shaped sound where Bass and Trebles are boosted so much it becomes fatiguing to listen to.
Presence of mids? barely~ all you get is booms and cymbals clashing with bad vocals barely visible to the ear.
Turning the subwoofer higher will bring in the midbass... but hey... midbass only lol... It muds up vocals real bad I gotta say.
However the Bose C5 has a built in DAC with their special virtual surround tech in it which is pretty good. It surely fills the room better than many Soundbars for TV I've heard.
ohya Harman Kardon Soundsticks III is good flex.gif
*
i tested bose companion 5 n soundsticks 3 before at showroom not machines though. yup, as u said bose speaker really dun sound impressive but u already know their selling point, all bose speakers are designed to let u feel tat the sound is coming from everywhere. tat is also why bose speaker do not get DTS certification. XD

2.0 system? worry if it is punchy enough for pop music..
*
normally for listening to music, a 2.0 system bass is sufficient. but if u really like bass a lot then u better try the 2.0 speaker out first. the bass of 2.0 bookshelf speaker really do lack the body n power of a subwoofer or floorstander speaker. imho, we hav many nice quality pc speaker in malaysia nowdays ^^ u can get a decent DAC, better speaker cable n also interconnect for them and the sound quality will be quite nice as well thumbup.gif
