it should be enough for pop music. Where do you live? you can audit the speaker at digital audio studio. At the shop you can listen to this speakers:

1)Aktimate micro and mini
2)Audioengine a2 and a5

Or, if you have the space, you can buy xls encore speaker (passive) with topping tp60 amp.

All of it are below 2k. Except for aktimate mini which is 2.5k (promo)

aktimate micro and audioengine a2 is small, very suitable for desktop. If i were you, I'd choose aktimate micro.

Maybe you can try my current setup:

1. Audirvana+ (music playback software for mac) = RM150 or Jplay for PC at RM500
2. Dacport LX = RM1.2k or Emerald physic DAC 1 = RM750 or wait for stoner acoustic new DAC ud110 running at 32bit below RM200
3. Topping TP60 (integrated amp) = RM600
4. Xls Encore (2.0 passive speaker) = RM1344
5. Decent speaker stand = RM300 and below(used unit)
6. Cables, plugs and interconnect = not fix, maybe below RM100
7. APC Line R power regulator (to protect your valuable amp and speakers) = RM160

If you have the space better buy Xls-encore with topping tp60 as the amplifier and a decent DAC. Total RM2650k

1)xls encore at curveacoustics.com price at RM1.3k include shipping
2)Topping TP60 at RM600 here in lowyat.net on garage sales
3)Emerald physic DAC 1 at RM750

If you really want to buy aktimate, i'd recommend mini because I prefer mini over maxi, it sounds better.

with that kind of budget i'd recommend you go to passive speaker.

pair it with tripath tp60 amp - RM650

later you can buy pre/pros for receiver and pre amp like emotiva umc200 - RM2200 include shipping and taxes

with that umc200, you can add a sub - varies

If ur budget permit, straight buy Xls-encore (www.curveacoustics.com) and TP60 integrated amp and a decent DAC. Aktimate mini is a good performer but now we have better alternative which is Xls-encore and TP60. Plus, its cheaper than Aktimate. brows.gif
