QUOTE(elea88 @ Apr 20 2017, 12:40 PM) it can happen for stocks not listed in that country.i experienced once with cimb/nyse counter. it was frozen for a few days due to uncertainties from the counter undergoing a reverse split. i was told the local entity did not have all the details on the exercise and as a normal practice, had to freeze until all is clear to prevent misunderstanding by some customers. |

QUOTE(Hansel @ May 18 2017, 09:45 AM) When I give my talks to investors, I always say this : when a company is too good, it will come a time when :- good point.1) it will be privatized, or 2) there will be a buy-out and the conditions and situations will change. Yes, the above is a sad fact,... and we must look for new counters after that. Hence, we must never stop learning. This year, in February,... Singpost opened the eyes of many old-timer investors,... Many old-timer investors who relied on Singpost for their 'income' just lost this source. We must always have a counter in mind,... a backup counter in case our main one(s) 'failed us'. And we must always diversify our holdings, no matter how good one counter appears to be. Because if a counter is too good, then some parties would want to 'chiak' that counter for himself. Bad counter - we lose money. Good counter - we can't earn continuous money. me, i just hold my 5 counters to collect 5.7-7.9% yield, do nothing else... happy enough. as the yields aren't too high, i hope they keep going, no nonsense like going private. if that happens to any of them, i'll just dump it and hold the rest, no eye see! |

QUOTE(prince_mk @ May 18 2017, 01:22 PM) aimsampcapitamall capitacom suntec keppel dc started with 8 about 5 years ago. ireit and kdc came later. eventually dropped sabana, ireit, starhill, firstreit, soilbuildbiz. just 5 for last 2 years. i'm quite happy that way - more of the 5 counters, less bank charges (i'm on trustee acc) for every div, easier to monitor. |

QUOTE(bearbear @ Jun 7 2017, 11:42 AM) same problem, where to park after sell? u r one of the millions with this "problem".i still have some fund idling then again this one 6 months once divvy, hold 6 months no income le the biggest hedge funds also have this problem. lately, they had dumped tens of billions in oil stocks, put them into tech stocks. so u see all the exxons and schlumbergers diving; amazons and googles flying. until the valuations don't make sense! i see global markets incl sgx continuing to rise, sheer market momentum, from superb liquidity. sg reits... most of them can still go higher. counters and bourses not going higher or going down - more reason to dump them. |

watch this one. if fed fails to hike, bond prices may rise further. so will reit prices then.
QUOTE There’s more uncertainty brewing next week. The Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates June 14 and may offer guidance on both further increases and its thinking on when to start trimming its $4.5 trillion balance sheet. Treasuries have rallied this quarter, with 10-year yields dropping Tuesday to the lowest since November as traders lose confidence economic growth and inflation will accelerate. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/201...d-bets-j3lr49xm https://www.ft.com/content/3dc6156c-4952-11...f4-c742b9791d43 |

QUOTE(prophetjul @ Jun 8 2017, 10:43 AM) AND the dynamics of property investment has changed drastically over the last 10 years. that is very true.In the gold olde days, steady 4% pa gains is the norm. Nowadays due to the borderless world, the asset can have wild bubbles and pops along the way. as tech gets everything moving faster, coupled with new trillions floating around, everything has changed. more and greater risks of bubbles everywhere. in the old days, one can put all money in just prop, will work good. today, gotta diversify enough not to get caught bad when one bubble burst. or stay within acceptable liquidity levels to get out/in fast enough! |
