Since we are into yield investment, do you have a portfolio of CORE holdings, which lets you SWAN? Sleep Well At Night.

How do you come up with your core stocks?

What is the % of your total portfolio is your core holding?

Unfortunately US applies a 30% with holding tax. sad.gif

Bro,... this is not a pure monthly payout ctr. It pays out only 4 times per year, not 12 times. and secondly, with the yield currently at 12%, after minussing the 30% WTH, the yield becomes 8.4% only; for this type of volatility, I would demand a higher yield to earn back my capital faster, before the price plunges.
*
Bro Hans,

It is a monthly payout. They just changed it recently in March? That interested me.
They have already gave directions on the payout for the next 3 months. 20 cents per month.

Here

This one is not as volatile like the 20% one. biggrin.gif

Wow,... if a ctr gives out 18% yield, then after the 30% WTH, it still gives out a 12.60% yield. However, I suspect such ctrs are rally highly volatile, and the price movement can easily WIPE OUT your earned dividend when it swings.

I would prefer a counter that :-
1) gives out a monthly dividend, so that I would get my money faster in order to invest back quicker and to recover my capital faster.
2) has an acceptable yield, the higher the better.
3) is defensive.
4) has the lowest possible Withholding Tax (WTH).
*
Defensive type of yield will not give high yields.

Yes, This one with 20% is volatile. It is a oil pipeline play with trading in options as well. Risk/Reward thing.
It was $24 in 2015. Now it is $10! laugh.gif

Tq bro for the clarification,... yeah, I think you did talk about this a few weeks ago,... I remembered now,... yeah, you were going to chk for us whether any WTH tax was imposed. So, for this CEF, there will be WTH tax, right ?

I guessed, if it's not too volatile, 8.4% net yield at current price should be acceptable, furthermore, it's 'giving you a monthly salary',...
*
Yeah....unfortunately tax is applied. sad.gif

But I like the monthly dividends. Meaning it is actually more than 8.4% annualized biggrin.gif

Bro,... why do you say that the monthly dividends actually give you more than 8.4% annualized ? Can you share yr calculations please ?
*
If you get a one time dividend at 240 cents at say, POS at $20. It is a yield of 12%.

If you get 20 cents per month, the 1st 20 cents is actually in your pocket. It is already principal yielding number in addition to the $20 stock.
You may buy back into the stock or other instruments of yield.

Say yo have 1000 shares. You receive 20 cents dividend, giving $200. You reinvest receiving 10 shares. This 10 shares will give your further dividends in the next month.

Therefore at year end, you are receiving more than 12% in total.

very attractive tactic. thanks for sharing here.

the 0.20 is net dividend ? have they excluded the tax of 30% ?
*
No.

The 20 cents is gross. Take away tax and it is 14 cents

Not bad. the net dividend is roughly ard 8.2%

About 8.4% average

Did a fast take on the monthly dividend payout impact on an annualized basis.

Assuming you reinvest into the same stock at same price,

After tax, it comes to about 11.634% . Not too shabby! biggrin.gif

Bro,... what abt the following expenses which I asked on earlier ?

But if you buy this counter, ECC through a Msian or a an SG broker, there will be custody fees. Some brokerages will impose a certain percentage as fee onto each of your dividend received.

After minussing out the above 'expenses', how much more of the 8.4% net yield which we calculated earlier would be left for our pocket (take home) ?

--------------------------------

May be lower than 14 Cts,....
*
The custody fees will be a % of the portfolio held in trust, not of the dividend.
I asked my broker. She said NO charges. biggrin.gif

AS for dividends, I asked my broker. She said

Charges is 1% of gross dividend up to max of Rm500.

Look at the following two :-

1) FTN.TO

2) DR.TO

One is a CEF and the other is a medical counter ! Let's say 15% WTH tax hit ! smile.gif
*
FTN is giving yield of 14.93% at POS of $10.10

DR is giving only 6.88% at POS of $16.35

No. 2 does not seem to meet your criteria?
