Vaccine looks like will be available in the next year. I don't think the market will factor in the Covid-19 risk any more. It will be a thing of the past from the market's perspective. Those who didn't go in the market during the peak of the pandemic will very likely missed the opportunity of a life time. It seems that risk averse investors who expect market will crash, will continue to wait for it to crash further. But in this case, market waits for nobody. Is this (waiting for crash) a good strategy ? ramjade did you say something will happen in November ? I remember vaguely you said something like that.... |

This is the highest return since inception. A very good depiction of a portfolio experiencing highs and lows which could take years to witness, but we are lucky to see it in just under 2 years. But in general it feels the stock market valuation is too high now. Is it really high now ? I am sure to risk aversed investors like ramjade, waiting for it to crash is still the best option. Let's see for another 6 months if this strategy works or fails again..... This post has been edited by Showtime747: Dec 19 2020, 07:27 PM |

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Dec 20 2020, 12:18 AM) Let us see until June of 2021. I expect something to come our way. I bought in March and I will buy again. Right now I am sitting on cash. No hurry to buy after my buying in March. Bought one week from the bottom. May not be best timing but good enough for me. Sometime in Aug/Sep, you said "let's see what happen in Nov 2020". Now "let's see June 2021". You will repeat the same thing in your investment life In April/May you said you didn't buy much, still waiting. Until now still waiting..... Exactly the purpose of this tracking of your "portfolio" - wait vs plunge. I wonder what will happen in 2 year milestone, 3 years, 5 years. It is a very good life depiction of an overly conservative risk aversed stock investor. Time will tell in your case which is better. QUOTE(Ramjade @ Dec 20 2020, 12:18 AM) You have wasted an opportunity of a life time back in March. On a side note, it's very kind of you to share your investment thoughts. Actually there is no right or wrong in investment strategy. Do whatever an investor feels comfortable. The golden rule always prevails - low risk low return, high risk high return. Apparently you are an extremely cautious investor, so your assets are safe, but your growth is limited. It is a strategy nonetheless. I am very curious what will happen to this portfolio in 5 years. Is it a runaway to the peak ? Or will it retreat back to the original cost ? Hansel liked this post

QUOTE(TOS @ Dec 21 2020, 08:07 AM) He bought a little. See the quote below All the while since the crash in March, the impression he gave me is that he didn't take the opportunity QUOTE(Ramjade @ Dec 21 2020, 10:31 AM) Nope I didn't waste it. I bought heavily. Dump all my small warchest into it. Ran out of cash. Still remember the date. 16th March 2020 I fired my shot. Oh boy.....your memory is a bit off.....this is what you said back in April (see below) PRS, sreits, Canada stocks, UK stocks, HK stocks, Europe stocks. I bought a little of the above. Too cheap to not buy. I buy when there's blood on the street. Boy was it bloody. Everyday circuit breaker. Futures also circuit breaker. Awesome feeling. I think I use up like USD30k in March (non margin. I don't dare to use margin). I never bought so much in my life. So much things to buy so little cash. Now you said you "bought heavily" QUOTE(Ramjade @ Apr 20 2020, 12:11 AM) QUOTE(Ramjade @ Apr 20 2020, 09:24 AM) |

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Dec 22 2020, 03:05 PM) I bought on 16/3 and still have cash to buy should it drop further. Sadly further crash didn't happen. In my opinion too little bought. But looking back, glad I was buying. I was hoping for 2008 type of sales. So not wise to buy everything. 40k war chest, bought 30k (75%) in March, left 10k (25%)March buy was more than what I normally buy. Tell about buying USD 30k worth of stuff in one day. Still got USD10k left over which was to be used if market dip further. In April, the 75% is "too little". But in December, 75% is "heavy" Apa lah.....never buy say never buy. Buy already say buy already lah. What is there to be ashamed about ? I am just doing a compilation of a real life scenario so that readers might see the benefits of wait or don't wait.... Or was it in April you felt that the market will plunge further, so you "claim" you bought only "a little" (leave yourself some room in case you are wrong). Now the market is much clearer, so you "claim" you have bought "heavily" ? (to claim your victory lap). Things are much clearer on hindsight isn't it ? I have seen many uncles blow water about their success investing in stock market in coffee shop, just like you here Pewufod liked this post

QUOTE(TOS @ Dec 22 2020, 09:50 PM) To be fair, I think he deserves some privacy. Not everyone dares to tell how much he/she puts into market, let alone a figure as large as 30-40k USD. 100k MYR can be significant for B40s already. I am afraid such disclosure may "invite the unwanted". He revealed the amount himself. Actually no one is interested in the amount as this tracking is only to see whether "waiting" is better or not.As for emotion stuff, normal for investors. We are humans after all, not some kind of "robo-advisors". Robots of course can't feel they haven't bought enough. If you look at his previous postings, most are rhetorics. Not many numbers. So just to throw in some balance, I created his portfolio given by himself in this thread because I always believe numbers are much clearer than talking But he always change goal post. Anyhow, I still think he did not buy during the crisis as shown in his posts in April/May. For some reason, he thinks his name and credibility in the cyberworld is worth to defend or something...hence change goal post again. That is not important actually, because it is my curiosity (and maybe some other readers) in the numbers over the period that made me track the portfolio. Nevermind who actually own the portfolio. His name is just to provide something tangible we can relate to. In 3 or 5 years time, we can see a very good picture "ramjade's portfolio" performed well or not.... QUOTE(Hansel @ Dec 23 2020, 04:05 PM) Wahh bro,... you covered all the corners in 'this case'. You shld be in my profession,... I can never be a lawyer. Lawyer can beat people who change goal post, but I can't.I have always told myself I will never debate legally on this forum,... but you just reminded me of my profession,.... Any other good tips in SGX and ASX ? Or is it too high now ? Share please.... |

A portfolio which weather the storm and recovered. One thing I noticed is this portfolio's dividend yield is only at 5%+ for 21 months. A tad on the low side even for non-dividend play stocks. I wonder those 8-10% dividend yield Reits may be a better choice ? Anybody has some data for your own portfolio (including capital gain+dividend) ? Nonetheless, it is still an impressive portfolio so far. Hansel liked this post

Because it is really scary to buy during a crash in Ramjade's case. Not many people has the guts to plunge in when everything is doom and gloom. And on hindsight, opportunities to take advantage of stock market crash was really brief. Those who expected another crash in the near term will be disappointed most probably. And I would foresee even with another crash in the future, these people will still not learn from the last crash and continue to wait for the "best" timing. At the end of the day, I think risk averse people are not suitable to invest in high risk assets like stock market. There are better options like EPF, ASx, FDs, etc |

QUOTE(prophetjul @ Mar 20 2021, 09:19 AM) i sold feb right up to 13 March 2020 after the Covid announcements in Jan. i actually sold 80% of my IREIT at 12//3/2020 at 74.5 cents and bought 13/3/2021 at 64.5cents and all the way down to 44 cents on 20/3/2021!
