Lol... Go home no need care for the validity thing la... No government on earth would want to retain you in their country on the ground that your passport is going to expire.
They want you to leave the country as soon as possible. But if you have passport validity less than 6 months they you will not be allowed to enter foregin country. Again, they do not want you to become a traveler without active travel document later in their country. |

Usually I'll renew at the final month.
The worst case for me was about 2 weeks from expiry. Since you don't enter and exit daily, you don't have to kena NAG by the immigration people at least twice a day. |

the 6 month all that crap is only when u are temporarily migrating, like as a student, to certain first world or developed countries
they don't wanna be stuck paying or supporting you or even to have to pay to deport you because they actually want to use their money for hardworking and patriotic citizens rather than foreigners from other countries that only know how to vote |

No problem .. make sure you get out of the country before expire date or if you don't, You will be jail, charge as illegals, black listed from visit Singapore and sent to Malaysia by wooden raft to the closest entry point. And No, you may not use the bridge, only by wooden raft woven by twigs and branch.

example Date of Issue - Jan 2013 Date of Expiry - Jan 2014 renew June 2013 expiry June 2014 ? say lah, if renew 1 year (which we dont do usually) rugi lahh if like that right ? |

Haha yeah it was bad judgement on my part.hahaha.. i think i feel more secured now. When I checked-in (SilkAir), there were some complications but they still let me through. Then, my passport didn't work at the autogate so I had to exit through the immigration officer... who cautioned me that I'm proceeding at my own risk. Then I searched online and found stories of people getting turned back Went on to the gate and no eyebrows were raised. Once I was at Changi I looked through the lines for the friendliest-looking officer |

If you are returning to Malaysia, no problem. If travelling overseas, and the time to expiry is less than the max time the travel visa allows you to stay (holiday, business, study), then you need to be careful. |

Just came back from a trip from Penang to Thailand (Koh Samui) by air. I too had this problem where I need to travel on June 2014 but my Malaysian passport expires in August 2014. I searched the net and this is the 1st link on the google search list. The answers were not satisfying. So here is my experience and yes I did go through with the close to expiry passport.
When traveling with a close to expiry passport, these are the few peoples who will be alarmed and might try to stop you. 1) The Airline Company When you check-in at the counter, they will know that your passport is close to expiry. However, what they did was gave me a letter of indemnity to sign promising that no legal action will be taken against the Airline Company should any problems arise if I fail to go through immigration. This might take a while so be sure to check-in early. (2 hours before flight time usually.) 2) The Malaysian Immigration When you reach the immigration counter, they too will know your passport is expiring. However what they did was gave me a warning that I risk not being able to enter the country of my destination. Then, they ask me to sign a letter stating that I was warned and no legal action will be taken against the immigration should any problem arise. However I was told that different airport practice different protocols. So just to be sure, call the Immigration Unit of your departing airport to confirm. DO NOT call the immigration of state or national levels. They only know the rule is passport must have at least 6 month validity and you are supposed to obey. The airports are more flexible with this. 3) The Immigration of Your Destination This is where it gets complex. Not all countries require the passport to have at least 6 months validity to enter. Different countries have different regulations and different flexibility with this rule. Example, Legally I need a passport with at least 6 months validity to enter Thailand. But the Thai Immigration said for Malaysia they will issue a 30 day visa so there is no problem entering Thailand with my passport. Again, call the Immigration Unit of your arrival airport to confirm. NOT the state or national level immigration. Now with all that being said, IF you still have a chance to go renew you passport before the trip, DO IT! Save yourself the hassle and it only takes a day. I heard UTC centers have immigration counters that are open until 10pm. IF you are traveling back to Malaysia with a close to expiry passport. THERE IS NO PROBLEM. They want you out of their country anyways. Hope this is useful to all you forgetful klutz like me! This post has been edited by Tegas: Jun 15 2014, 12:23 AM |
