i found out 1 thing, if u no open ur aircon, ur radiator fan wont open? Cos i tried on the car without aircon then when i switch off the car, the fan will run and cool the engine down.. then i try open bonnet and see, really no open aircon no radiator fan, mean cooling system not working... i think have to be aware of it, cos scare like Savvy AMT, u no open aircon, the amt cooler fan no running also then AMT overheat, then AMT spoilt, 15k gone if no warranty..
*
When you switch on your aircon, the fan must run as it needs to cool down the liquid in the condenser. When the set temperature is achieved, the aircon will cut off and the fan will stop as the compressor stopped pumping gas/liquid through condenser.

For radiator, the fan will only start when the water/coolant reach the set temperature. When you said your radiator fan not running that's because the engine have not reach it's optimal working temperature. You can try keep the aircon switched off and drive your car around or leave the engine running for 5-10 minutes, the fan will eventually start spinning once the engine reach the temperature.

So how if the engine still cool and you switch on the aircon? The blowing fan will prevent the engine from reaching it's working temperature? Luckily, there is a radiator thermostat keeping the cool water/coolant from circulating in the engine head/block. sweat.gif

Many cars nowadays uses 1 fan for all, this is why it confuses you. If you have access to the car that have 2 fans design (such as that old time Proton Saga), you will notice what is going on because the aircon condenser and radiator were placed side-by-side. smile.gif

Hi all,

Sorry but this may be the dumbest questions I am about to ask here... simply because I really can't understand the logic.

A turbo unit create higher compression pressure while still burning the same amount of fuel.
So, when we pedaled a Preve CFE above 2000rpm so that the turbo kicks in, we actually get better or poorer fuel efficiencies?
Almost everybody here share the information of keep the rpm below 2000 to get better FC, are they really true?
When Googled about this question, I see more "increased MPG" than "decreased MPG" answers.
If turbo boost resulting in bad FC, why not Proton put in 1.8L engine without a turbo? hmm.gif

Another question: on CFE engine, the turbo start to create the boost above 2000rpm?
But according to my hearing of "siiiiiu..." boost sound, I think mine start at 30km/h no matter which rpm the engine was running.
Unless this "siiiiiu..." was actually the sound of CVT? laugh.gif
Condition of my observation:
Every morning 6:xxAM, while everybody still dreaming, in a multi-storey car park with around 80M-100M of straight "runway" with lots of sound reflected back to my ears, all 4 windows wound down, radio and air-cond were OFF. I monitor this for months already.

I am not trolling but sincerely asking questions here to learn. nod.gif

Rule of thumb. Everytime you boost, extra fuel is injected in. You cant boost with fuel level during vacuum. That would be very lean and damaging to the engine.

Noted! Thanks! thumbup.gif

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Oct 26 2012, 07:36 AM)
siiu is cvt sound bro smile.gif turbo spooling sound i still yet to hear it in the cabin.. dunno how to get that sound.. even i hit 2k also no such sound.. maybe barely audible becos the turbine in small and not much pressure.

U get higher FC becos it is forced induction, means it gives more volume of air into the engine to allows combustion to happen. and when more air, means u need more fuel to get complete combustion, same like u got tis amount of fuel, u enuf air.
*
Was thought siiiu... is turbo, and whoooo... is CVT pula.. doh.gif
You also can't hear any turbo boost sound? Do you think if the turbo actually working? laugh.gif

QUOTE(arthur88 @ Oct 26 2012, 07:47 AM)
first part maybe mat79 can answer u...
the second part, i can 101% tell u only above 2k rpm will only hear the sound, unless ur car has its own charateristic...
just travel from penang to selangor last night...so, i can be sure...perhaps u should attend TT and let others see and judge?
*
Hahaha.... thanks Arthur rclxms.gif

Many thanks bro mat79 the legendary! Whenever you come to the explain, all the puzzling were cleared! My salute to you! notworthy.gif

I have no doubt and never complain on the driving comfort and the power that a Preve produced. Just my bad as I did not do enough research when I saw the statements online saying "turbocharged engine provide more fuel efficiencies etc...". Now I can understand more on the term "fuel efficiencies" were to compare between NA engines which produce the same power, but not comparing to the engine with the same displacement.

You are also very correct about your earlier claim saying we could get better and better FC when our mileage hit 10K mark. My mileage is now 11,xxxKM and almost full city driving in Penang, my recent best FC was 10.9L/100km in two consecutive refills! rclxm9.gif (worst FC was 12.6L/100km)

Yup! Many thanks mat79, I still remember in earlier days when I was shocked and surprised by the uphill climbing power of Preve, truly loving it! wub.gif

I use [D] mode 99.99% of the time, more than enough torque for my city driving. Only occasionally testing out [Manual] or [Paddle Shift] mode as suggested by forumers here to feel the different characteristics of the car. laugh.gif

Not sure if this make any difference, but I think the traction control and/or ESC limit the pulling power of the car even if we're in [Manual] mode?

Nooooo! I had enough of driving manual transmission car, tired of clutch pedal in this crawling traffic condition. sweat.gif

By the way bro mat79, I noticed my car has engine knocking sound no matter which petrol brand I use (RON95), tried Caltex, Esso, Shell and Petronas, haven't have the chance to fill BS Petrol and never tried RON97 though. What is your advise on this? smile.gif

QUOTE(dares @ Oct 28 2012, 08:21 AM)
They keyword is "efficiency". When the turbo is boosting you will consume more fuel compared to not boosting, but because combustion is more complete, you will get more power for every cc of fuel injected into the combustion chamber.
*
I think it's not too late for me to finally learned this word... laugh.gif
Thanks dares! wub.gif

QUOTE(arthur88 @ Oct 28 2012, 09:46 PM)
bro mat79, is it new TCU setting doesnt allow revving above 4k rpm when speed is around 100? using paddle shift in D mode...

the situation is like this, today i was travelling from selangor to penang, with 4 persons in car including me...with pack of loads in the trunk as well...that time was going uphill, speed is 100km/h....i was thinking to use paddle shift to speed more, but the speed just maintain 100km/h, barely, and the gear is in 5th gear (after use paddle shift in D mode), and it wont go more than 3 or 3.5k rpm....is this normal behavior?
*

I would guess, could it be the top limit of 5th gear at 100km/h?

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Oct 29 2012, 07:54 AM)

Hi all,

Today did 10K service in Proton SC, Sungai Pinang here.
I ask the service adviser regarding updated ECU...
Me: Is there any updated ECU for Preve?
Service Adviser: ECU? Takde.

When I go back collect my car about 2½ hours later, the service adviser (SA-1) was not at his desk. A polite and pretty cashier attended me wub.gif and I paid the bill. Another service adviser (SA-2) help me drive my car out from the service bay. Then SA-1 suddenly appeared next to me and said sorry cause he's makan... then he ask SA-2 is the free gift in the car, and yes, the free gift was indeed in the car, it's a car shampoo from Petronas anyway. Then SA-1 suddenly told me the door rubber should be ok now, you try and see, and tu ECU baru while pointing his finder at my car.

What in my mind at that time was: chieh! said no ECU earlier, but now told me ECU baru pula?

Upon driving my own car, I suddenly shocked to realized the very obvious pulling power of my car! shocking.gif
Then I constantly ask myself is it real? I try very hard to drive as similar as before, but the pull is really so obvious!
I don't know if I should trust SA-1 about the new ECU? But the power is really there, how can I not trusting him?
Also noticed the rpm goes beyond 2K very easily (in D mode), I think they did something else to the car even if the ECU thing was not real?
Another thing I noticed is, they did something near the glovebox compartment because they forgot to put back the "absorber-like" bar that slows down the cover opening.

So now, I can confirmed the car is a lot different now. Just like the car become lighter, the power is there whenever I need, overtaking a car was so "stim" I must say. I've also updated the "adaptation software" of my right foot to also become light-footed to maintain RPM below 2K whenever I can. Still monitoring if this new changes will affect fuel consumption.

One thing I don't like is, they charged me RM50 for "Compressor Oil" in the bill, and of course the RM28 "X-1R Petrol Treatment" as well. mad.gif

By the way, they also updated my HU to software newer version. rclxms.gif

wow...congratz bro  thumbup.gif
hope others who got updated their ECU can share their exp also later.
for the "Compressor Oil" is this optional or a must? i only know "X-1R Petrol Treatment" can tel them dun put into ur car.
*
Last time (my previous car) I asked, they said this Compressor Oil is a must for air-cond warranty.
But I know we never need to add extra oil to the air-cond compressor, I even confirmed with auto air-cond repairer.
Then I no more go to that SC because I know they simply charged me without actually adding anything to the compressor.
Until I got Preve, I give them another chance (also because I don't want to miss if there's any update), but there was no Compressor Oil and other extra add-on charges, so I return again to this SC.
This time I didn't ask about the price for 10K service package, only realized it when paid the bill.

QUOTE(sanadi @ Oct 31 2012, 04:21 PM)
Of course this new ECU/TCU map will cause higher FC. You said it best, overtaking another car is very "stim". Too much "stimming" will cause your car to run out of steam (or fuel) faster.  biggrin.gif
*
Yer... that's why I will be more careful with my foot. laugh.gif

QUOTE(edwinkbs @ Oct 31 2012, 04:59 PM)
Yes, true. Only a few of SA know about the HU update and ECU update. Most of SA service preve will know it. Then others they will ask the supervisor from thr.
I service Sungai Pinang also, talked with the supervisor before. I personally asked the HU update from the supervisor lol.
Anyway what did you ask him to do with your door rubber?
*
For the door rubber....
Each time after rain stopped and I open the door (left side, front and rear) there were water drop down to the seat.
Also for left rear door, when driving under heavy rain, sometimes water dripping in the car. shakehead.gif
I already complained about this on my first service, but still unsolved.
Will see this time if they successfully rectify it.

For the free gift, this SA only give me a shampoo, but I saw in Prevoc Facebook, it should be 2 free gift! mad.gif

about the manual gearbox, they need to consult getrag on the matter coz now trans thing will be directly under oem supervision n warranty. The report need to be sent to them for rectification, unless it is related to the engine part. So,send to sc to check which part is associate with the problems. Seems punch is more proactive then getrag, or maybe getrag too busy due to high supply with other automakers. But every problems need time to rectify coz any counter measures need to be sure effective so that the same probs will not surface again.

Gk lai, i think its the tcu update. But just confius on the coolant change@top up. If top up, i think the excess of coolant shud be in ur car(of course,in bottle) coz rarely u need a bottle to top up. And compressor oil, i dont remember needed to change on that mileage. Maybe i miss that part@sanden did issue circular to replace the oil.
*
Thanks mat79, if they updated the TCU for me as you thought, is it correct the RPM very easily goes beyond 2K with this update? This is very obvious as last time the RPM were too shy to touch the 2K barrier in D mode. tongue.gif

Those coolant, compressor oil were their old trick to charge customer some extra "tax", because these thing didn't happened in my last visit so I thought they already abolished them. Now I know they did it again... what to do? I must go there to get any latest update. Other authorized SC I know could not provide latest setting if Proton come out with new one (I already asked them).

I'm in Penang Island.
1. The "Chak!Chak!" sound, previously SC said is due to the spring at the clutch pedal. The did something to it and it appear to be fine right after service but the sound comes back after a week or so.
2. The shivering happen only at idling at "N" or my foot engage on the clutch  fully (equivalent of "free-gear"-ing). The most concerning to me is that whenever it happen, it seems like affecting the electrical load in which display on the radio would get dimmed a bit.
3. I think the "kruk kruk" noise that i have would be the same case as your "gluk.. gluk.. gluk" noise. The noise that you heard does it only happen at low rpm ~1.5K and very low speed, especially in heavy traffic jam? Or the "gluk... gluk... gluk..." noise would even been heard on a normal smooth driving?
*
Hi ymspsn, if I were you, I'm sure go to SC to confirm if this car safe to drive, unless I know what make such noise. smile.gif
