Hi guys,

I have a set of MD100 Dynaudio tweeters which have been giving me problems. Here's the situation :

Sometimes there is no sound at all until I blast the volume close to 85% of the maximum then it crackles to life. But once the volume is reduced back to 60% volume it slowly sputters and dies.

But on some occassions it works 100% perfectly. Sometimes it works fine after the car is parked under the sun for half a day and sometimes it isn't fine.

Right now it's with the repairman and he can't find any problems with it. Tests upon tests on the bench can't replicate the issue. But before sending it for repair, the installers heard it for themselves - it wasn't producing any sound.

Any ideas or feedback on what might be wrong?

Maybe he means the passives.
If the problem cannot be reproduced in the workshop, assuming the tweeter was tested on its own, then it must be something in the system.

Suspects:
HU pre-out
amp rca in/out (especially if on active)
passive out
wiring
i dunno what else is in your system, active Xover maybe

Have fun testing one by one lol.

replace the tw with others, to test the hardware problem.
if ok, then test the tw by itself. could be the vc of tw is near broken

I've confirmed it's not the rest of my system. Swapping the tweeters around and the problem follows the tweeter.

If it's the VC, how come no matter how hard the technician stresses the tweeter on the bench, there isn't any problem?

Sigh. 2 months and still waiting.

could be very intermittent issue. contacts within the internal parts? (driving a car moving around will shake the tweeters a bit, while technician stressing it in their labs/workshop wouldn't have that same effect)

just a wild guess.
