I'm having some issues with my Y400:
1) CPU throttle down to 2.4ghz from 3.2ghz after 20sec of stress test
2) weak wifi issue, wifi strength is good after update the driver but facing frequent connection drop and hard to connect to the wifi.
Any of u guys facing this?

Most of the y400/y500 users are having the same weak wifi issue.
It is because of the wireless adapter lenovo is using in these laptops.
Unless you change the wireless adapter, there is no other way to improve it.

Thx for the respond, so anyone claimed from Lenovo for the poor signal wifi card?

May I know your wireless adapter model? Mine is using Atheros AR9485WB-EG and the latest driver I can find is 10.0.0.75 for window 7 64bit.

the above driver is for intel.. i guess u need to wait until atheros update their driver

May I know ur Wifi adapter model? I'm thinking of changing it but it seems like Lenovo have a wifi whitelist that only let the pc boot with specific wifi adapter.

^I remember looking through the full tear down guide of Y580, the layout of the wifi attenna is not typical (some sort of new layout scheme).
Till this day, I still strongly suspect this new layout may have lead to wifi signal interference (hence the weak wifi is not solely due to adapter) in Y580 (and may have pass the curse to Y500 smile.gif )

But I don't bother to test my theory since my Y580 is also plug into LAN at home laugh.gif

I'm getting this card:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140821299031?ssPag...984.m1439.l2649
to test out the signal after swapping the card. Need to wait 2 weeks for the card to arrive.

Its seem that the local set with atheros wifi adapter facing the same issue like China set according to chinese forum http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-2903884-1-1.html

You can try out the solution suggested by them. do let us know whether it work.  icon_rolleyes.gif

You unlock the wireless adapter white list in bios?
*
Nope, but it mentioned that the card is for LENOVO Bios version. So decided to give it a try.

Follow the pics if cant get it.  tongue.gif
Here the simple guide according to them:  icon_rolleyes.gif
Try option 2 first:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Alternatively, you can try to change your modem setting to 802.11g only instead of 802.11bgn mixed. This will limit ur wifi strength.

I tried method 2 based on the image in the link, but there is no improvement noticed.

Method 1 wont be convenient coz I always connect to the wifi in the office/outside.

Added on January 4, 2013, 2:41 pmIf my machine off the bluetooth device, the wifi gets better signal...

Local Y400 come with W8 and default wifi driver 10.0.0.209, you reinstall to Win7 and unofficial wifi driver 10.0.0.75?
May be its a drivers issues.  hmm.gif
If use Win7, try Lenovo official wifi drivers 9.2.0.439 below for Y480's atheros wifi since no official Win7 drivers for Y400.
It seem Y480 user dont have any problem with Atheros wifi adapter using default drivers.

Now i'm using the driver updated by Driver Genius to the latest ver 9.2.0.514. Before this I did tried the driver from Y480, same issue still occurred.

Great review, I agree 100%.  I am also having the keyboard issue.  My keyboard will enter in some random characters and I can almost always replicate the issue by hitting the "6" key on the numpad.  I hit it enough times, and it will throw a "`6" or "``".  This is completely random so I'm thinking that either the keyboard is defective or there's some interference happening.  The same sort of issue I had with the Elan touchpad which I have since fixed.  Let me know if you come up with a solution for the keyboard and I'll do the same!

Same case happened to my lappy as well and I had sent it in for warranty last Tuesday(8Jan2013). I haven't got back my lappy yet but when I called em, they are shipping in the wifi card and keyboard to exchange with the faulty one. Hope everything is fine after the parts replacement.

Some updates after I sent in my Y400 into service center, they managed to fix the Wifi, the black antenna cable got a loose connector that caused the poor wifi issue. After change to new keyboard, the keyboard is still having some issue (cap+A+S many times will auto type other words), then read the solution somewhere about disable the always on USB in bios and problem yet to occurred after 16 hours.

If i send to authorized service partners is it okay ? :/ quite scared they bomb me with the bill.
Same wifi issues and also wanna upgrade HDD
*
I send it to the Plaza IBM next to TV3. Since the unit is under warranty, there won't be any charges. Regarding the HDD upgrade I did mine at the reseller when I bought my PC.
