Just wanted to ask, besides the physical screen size and resolution, are there any major viewing differences between the screen of the Y400 & Y500 in terms of clarity, colour reproduction/accuracy, ghosting, etc?

Might be using the laptop for photo editing and gaming when away from home base and thus wondering if anyone has feedback or cares to weigh on my thread http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f...&t=2712395&st=0

Could someone indicate what is the street price for Y400/500 (with the normal spec/package) at the moment? Thanks!

A user on another forum mentioned these drawbacks on y400 and seemed to discourage from buying it. No sure if its a US grey import unit or local set. But the user brought up some points including:

- touchpad issues
this is a known issue on some models so I'm not surprised

- Wifi card can only connect to B/G and not N
- WIFI drops connection anytime it wants. you have to reboot whole system to get it working and trust me the reboot is freaking slow.

It would be surprising that the Y400/500 doesn't support 802.11n. Anyone able to dispel this? However I think some users on this forum also have mentioned about the WIFI performance and some other have suggested that it could be the Internet Security/Antivirus issue thats affecting the WIFI (specifically the bundled McAfee Antivirus)

- Practically no support from Lenovo No automatic driver updater etc.
Is this true?

- USB 3.0 only at 1/2 speed (must do alot of things to finally enable it)
- USB always-on port doesn't work as advertised and on the go. (again must jump through alot of hoops to get it working)

Has anyone encountered this as well?

So i asked the user who complained about the wifi inconsistency on another forum and this is what they said

QUOTE
The wifi card is a very old atheros card. I went to ask Lenovo sales man today and he insisted their model have intel wifi card his expression was priceless when he open device manager to show me. ATHEROS also for Y500.

So is this true of Malaysian stock Y400/Y500? Was the wifi more stable on the Y480/580? Is the older Y480/580 use an Intel wifi card? This is worrying if the wifi has such major stability issues in addition to not supporting 802.11n

Y580 with Atheros wifi adapter has no weak wifi issue.

Err, sounds like there are Wifi issues, but its abit hit and miss on the stock/batch then?

Anyway, I went to Lenovo Store in Danga City Mall, JB. They only had Y400 in stock, Y500 no stock, asked if I wanted it, can order for me? Sales staff actually told me Lenovo Malaysia set some condition for them to buy other series laptop in order to order a Y500.. i.e. sounds like they not keen to order Y500 coz forced by Lenovo to order some other other series laptops.

And I asked if I wanted the additional GPu for the Y400, can order or... response seems to be I had to source myself.. dunno how they do business here.. seriously dunno why they open shop if "mau/tak mau" sell products...

I think at this rate, I'll just forget about it and get a desktop instead.. want to order also so susah have to hear cock & bull story from sales staff..... *shrugs*
