Let's hope it won't cost a Bomb.

It is weight around 2.88kg(probably without the 2nd GPU), and only packed with a 1366x768 LCD on an 15 inch.

Would rather get a Sager with a single 7970M(which probably even beat 2x GTX660M), weight around 3.1kg, and packed with a 1920x1080 LCD on an 15 inch.

Again, the question is, will it cost(inclusive of the 2nd GPU for SLI) about the same as the sager or cheaper. hmm.gif

Good thing you can still use your Asus adapter. tongue.gif

Really interested with the price.
If the price is right, it'll be an awesome machine for our local market.

Wow. Not a bad price! thumbup.gif
They should include a 90w adapter, which I think should be enough to run 1 GPU.
So people can bring around outside with 1 GPU + empty bay + 90w psu.
When get back home, insert the GT650M bay, and use the 170w adapter for performance.

Anyone found any benchmarks/reviews on the web regarding the GPU? I really can't wait to see the 3DMark11 benchmarks.
*
Not sure whether it's the one :

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/4614658

But it does stated SLI enabled.

what a good thing about this laptop compare to y580? izzit their graphic card or price?
*
Both.
Where can you get a laptop with a performance of a GT675M(looking at the 3DMark11 results) that cost only RM3799?
That's about RM800 differences, which is only 27% more expensive for an increased of 70 to 80 percent gaming performance.
Some more, that price were told to include extra 170w adapter.
Most importantly is that you don't have to sacrifice the weight when you want to take it out outside to work or school by taking out the extra GPU and use back the default 120w adapter(same as the Y580).
They both(Y580 vs Y500) weight about the same on stock(without the extra GPU).

I would recommend those looking for a cheap gaming laptop to wait for the release.
Also, if possible, wait until there's a review of it, just to make sure there's no issue with this laptop.

default box inside already have the extra graphic card slot in the ultrabay ( aka optical drive slot ) , hence thats no ODD available, and inside the box only have 170 w adapter along only
*
Thanks for the clarification.
Means that the users have to bring along the extra GPU(inserted) and 170w PSU, which is not that convenient compared to carrying a 120w adapter and without the extra GPU for everyday outdoor use.

Hope there's an option for the owners to buy an extra blank ultrabay or anything to replace the GPU, and an extra 120w PSU adapter.

Very nice results there Jabberwocky! thumbup.gif

Yeah, do some temperature testing.

Also, if possible, test some more games, see whether there are issues with the SLI.

What Jabberwocky posted was more like a confirmation for Malaysia context smile.gif Good job Jabberwocky (if I remember correctly he mentioned this is the 1st time he run benchmark suite) and the rest thumbup.gif And thanks ytlay  notworthy.gif
The 1st post of this thread already listed a few benchmark done in China (same GT650M SLI).
In short, benchmark indicate it is about GT670M level, under GT670MX. Of course benchmark can only tell you so much, with the normal caveat that come with SLI setup (in this case apparently through SATA rather than PCIe).

I think it should be GTX675M instead of GTX670M. hmm.gif

I love the Y500 design. But you are spending RM800 more.
Suppose you get the Y580. What you can do with RM800:
buy a SSD and swap with HDD, buy a caddy for the HDD and swap with ODD, buy more RAM, upgrade warranty to 3 year on site, buy a cooling pad.
You get a machine that lose out in raw GPU power, less vow factor.
You get a machine that boot faster, run apps much snappier, with better warranty support, and never need to deal with SLI.
Not a bad trade-off. My hands is getting itchy, but Y500 is not a blow out winner over Y580.

And no, to get the SLI working, both GPU must be same model. This is as good as it get. You will not be able to get a "better" ultrabay GPU next time.
*
You can still upgrade(SSD, RAM, etc) the Y500 in the future.
But you can't do anything to improve the gaming performance on the Y580. Except by overclocking.

Just have to wait for more review on the gaming performance and gaming stability of the GT650M SLI.
Whether the improvement over the GTX660M is worth it or not.

+1  thumbup.gif
IMO, its quite worth it for Y500 with
- swappable ultrabay with different options to suit user needs, ie. ODD, HDD, fans, bluray, even additional battery in future if there are demand.
- swap it with additional battery and bring 120W psu(optional) when you needs mobility. swap with GT650M and use 170W psu when you needs extra horse power at home.
- better design/build & bling-bling Red backlit keyboard
- better cooling system & easy maintenance
*
Yup, they should introduce additional ultrabay battery in the future like what the fujitsu offers. So, it should be possible to implement.

http://www.fujitsu.com/hk/services/computi...h792/specs.html

Optional bay for Fujitsu SH792:
-Bay Projector
-Bay Battery, 3-cell Li-ion 28Wh, up to 12hrs10mins1 battery life (Standard + Bay Batteries)
-Blu-ray writable drive
-Dual Layer DVD Super Multi writer
-2nd HDD Fitting Kit (w/o SATA HDD)
-Weight Saver

Some more the GT650M fitted in the Y500 is the GDDR5 version.
So, it differ with the GTX660M slightly in core clock(735MHz vs 835MHz) and memory clock(1000MHz vs 1250MHz), of which can easily be ocable.
So if you have trouble with SLI on some games, just insert an ultrabay fan for a better cooling, and OC the GPU to a GTX660M clock, then done, you have an almost identical setup to a Y580, but with better cooling on the system compared to the Y580.
Also, no more worrying on the HDD temp like the brother Y580 is having. smile.gif

Depending on games.

Notebookcheck did a test.

Average results from 14 games :

The notebookcheck benchmark had two flaw:
-benchmark inc resolution 1366x768
-drivers: AMD driver sux but since GX60 there are alot of drivers update that gain performance due to enduro fix (which cause the GPU not to run at 100%). For the benchmark which driver was used?
*
Ahh.. They have also include 1366x768 into the average result..
Didn't notice that.. notworthy.gif
