the real potential shines if you manage to connect a full size card through that port and make it run even without SLI.
I agree with you regarding the SLI. It's not supposed to be upgradable, but the DIY potential is huge.

Externally. An eGPU solution.
No cooling problems and very upgradeable. smile.gif

But then it will not become portable anymore... How do you supposed to put all the stuff including the bulky PSU for the eGPU into your laptop backpack?
In the end, desktop is the choice if portability is not the main concern. laugh.gif

Added on October 25, 2012, 5:49 pmI found this info from a chinese forum. Link

Y500/Y400 will be priced higher than Y580/Y480 except for the low end versions. (Lenovo is still trying to reduce the cost though.)
Additionally, Y400 only has 1366x768 screen res, which is not good. (The screen should be at least 1600x900)

I hope for the best. rolleyes.gif

Ideapad Y500/Y400 will be available in Nov 2012 according to Lenovo insider in China.

Y500 thermal design look promising in cooling of GT650M in SLI. thumbup.gif
- Dual GT650M with separate heatsink/ fans and large ventilation area look promising.
- Repositioning of HDD will improve its cooling compare to Y580/Y480.

The back cover of Y500/Y400 can be completely removed for dust cleaning.

No higher gpu like gtx670m or gtx680m?

According to Lenovo reseller in China HERE.
- Y500: FHD for highest specs model only, optional ultrabay GPU, backlit keyboard, ETA around mid Dec.
- Y400: no option for ultrabay GPU, no FHD, with backlit keyboard, price around Y480 and ETA around mid Nov.

Swappable ulltrabay GT655M(2GB,35W) & 170W PSU for Y500 rsp CNY1299 (around RM635), very tempting ahhh. drool.gif

it's better they release it a bit late rather than releasing it early n not meeting any of our expectations. be patient. with windows 8 official launching, i believe they're still tweaking it for compability.
