What is the meaning "dual graphics" ? Does it refer to SLI???

Hmm.. Would GT655M SLI be greater than GTX660M in term of performance?
*
What if you compare this: Would 2 RM300 be greater than 1 RM400?

still, i am still quite surprised that Lenovo didn't opt for AMD to have a dual GPU solution... granted the CPU side is lacking, but AMD APU integrated graphic can hold it's own, and CrossFire scales better than SLI... hmm.gif
*
NO, Dual graphics is not good!!! the most high end dual graphics solution ( the HD 7660g +HD 7670m) is worse than the HD 7670m itself due to micro-stuttering and other problems. Sure, micro-stuttering is normal for all SLI and Crossfire solutions.

Look at this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD...cs.81173.0.html

gt655m?
wad sort of graphic card is that?
*
As the GT 650m is much equal to GTX 660m, the GT 655m might be a Fermi design of GTX 660m or something else. Better than GT 650m but worse than GTX 660m. I can't really find a gap between these two graphic cards.

You might want to look up your definition of "cheaper".

Since no updates were to be found regarding the y500 I started looking for laptops with similar performance and possibly upgradeable.
I stumbled upon the Sager NP9130 (Clevo p131em1) which offers a very nice basic build, fully customizable and MXM 3.0b compatible for less than 1200$. (More technical data)
It's a bit heftier than y580 but the PSU is only 120W and the basic build comes with 670m GPU which with some tinkering could be upgraded in a couple of years to another 75w TDP GPU.
It is much easier to disassemble, repair and modify than everything I've seen from lenovo so far and is assembled on demand.

Lenovo would have to show me something remarkable to sway away from the clevo.
I have really hard time believing that Y500 with the dual GPU setup could drop below 1200$ or avoid any heating issues.

And to think that I was so hyped a few weeks ago U__U...
Well, I still wish to see what they come up with.
I'm a huge fan of lenovo laptops and I just hope that they wont mess up their entrance to the real gaming laptops market.

Agreed, and I also wondering whether the air flow is good or not on GE60 because it's kinda slim for gaming laptop.

For me, mid/high end gaming laptop don't need to be slim, only need great performance and air flows.

I understand some of the excitement, in terms of design, possible price point, possible performance, etc ...

But I don't buy the swappable bit. Nvidia SLI, as far as I know, only work with GPU with the same model number. Since the primary card in this case is the 650M, you will be stuck with the 650M ultrabay as well. I don't think you could later buy a 680M ultrabay (if Lenovo actually release one) and swap it in, unless Lenovo / Nvidia provide the driver support. Unless there is lots of demand for it, don't pin on special driver support from Nvidia, just look at Linux.

You never know. The whole idea of ultrabay is that Lenovo could release lots of them, DVD, Blu Ray, HDD, GPU (in this case), and you may get your battery. You then buy whatever you want, and swap in whichever you need.
However, even for ThinkPad, I find this whole ultrabay thing unwieldy. I am not going to carry all these gadgets to travel. On my desk, a docking station is a much more elegant solution.

the real potential shines if you manage to connect a full size card through that port and make it run even without SLI.
I agree with you regarding the SLI. It's not supposed to be upgradable, but the DIY potential is huge.

But then it will not become portable anymore... How do you supposed to put all the stuff including the bulky PSU for the eGPU into your laptop backpack?
In the end, desktop is the choice if portability is not the main concern. laugh.gif

Added on October 25, 2012, 5:49 pmI found this info from a chinese forum. Link

Y500/Y400 will be priced higher than Y580/Y480 except for the low end versions. (Lenovo is still trying to reduce the cost though.)
Additionally, Y400 only has 1366x768 screen res, which is not good. (The screen should be at least 1600x900)

I hope for the best. rolleyes.gif
