@TS

instead of buying SSD why don't u buy a pair @ single 2GB RAM 1st.

upgrading from 4GB to 6/8GB for modern OS/program/games can gave very different result

Dont think is RAM, i am running on 4GB + 2 years dated AMD Phenom II proc, Win7 + D3 (high setting) + Streaming PPS (i farm while watching PPS on the same screen) no lag. Only will lag when the network is red.

I already running out of RAM slot (I use 4 pcs of 1GB RAM).

But how can it be RAM? Game suppose to work with 2GB, what is more to say about 4GB.

I will give a try with the MS Essential disabled first.

I guess I could try to disable Microsoft Security Essentials and see what happens later tonight. I'm running MS Essential & Avira AV.
*
disable both. antivirus are useless if you're not completely stupid to avoid viruses smile.gif

ada kaitan. because of dynamic loading where the game starts loading files when you're approaching exits/entrances etc.

if it happens that the file is not seeked by the hdd in a timely matter, lag. if you're fighting elite and it does this, you die, free repair bill. if you play on hardcore, you flip table, quit game. make new thread in LYN, cry about it. etc.

before suggesting ram upgrade, do you know what is TS's ram consumption? if he is only using 2gb ram, he add 100gb ram also does nothing.

Try verify the problem before jump into conclusion...
For stuttering suspect, check your response time of D3 mpq files.

In order to that (for window 7), go start>all programs>accesories>system tools>Resource Monitor. Then either at Overview/Disk tab, check Diablo III.exe and observe the response time (ms) of MPQs files. Ideal reponse time is 5ms and below. If you have way larger ms than 5ms, u shud try the flash drive method linked by Quazacolt few posts before mine. RM30 can get one already...

wei in my experience when 1st few month playing d3 was only shuttering during map change (mean i get red ping once map change for couple of sec) then getting worst time to time when after patch 1.03 till 1.04. i could die at public game when i was like screen freeze during map change. once successful load in i was dead surrounded by mob and elite. got frus and go grab 1 ssd crucial m4 128gb from ronaldjoe. Do a fresh window 7 64bits + optimization using trim and ahci setting.
Hell now im super smooth no more shuttering during map change or lagging in game. Everythings load fast and smooth even with wiz or wd during aoe skills.

Just found out that the stuttering of my mouse lag is due to dying mouse & not loading/network/antivirus/portforwarding/ip doh.gif

Change new mouse and it is back to normal (which is, only lag for some seconds on every map change)

Invest a SSD solely for D3 sake? If my RMAH sales can earn that much maybe I consider (but definitely not for D3 sake)

I believe the improvement wont be significant for usb thumb drive and ssd anymore.

since 1.0.4 i had noticed there is a black screen before you enter a game, at the top left corner displays a line of text "buffering..."

I am guessing that they pre-load some of the mpqs into the memory or reference points of the mpq data.

I did the thumb drive and the problem remains. I think I'll just jump to SSD.
