4th March 2012: Purchased camera in CamWorld, IOI Mall.
24th July 2012: Was watching a football game at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, and the lens error message appeared. Pressed the On/Off button and everything worked fine again.
28th August 2012: Was taking a stroll in the park at night and the lens error message appeared again. This time the lens cannot be retracted, just like in the YouTube video above.
29th August 2012: Sent it for repair at Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. at Peremba Square, Shah Alam.

I have also posted about my experience on the dpreview forums:

I posted it here because I wanted to know if any Malaysian S100 owners had the same problem and what they did to fix it. So please share your experiences if you have the same problem with your S100!

It's worth mentioning that when I went to the service centre, they said they've improved the rectifying process of the lens error.

Instead of repairing the defected parts, they said now they'll now replace the defected parts. Hopefully this means no more lens error, and no more hassle of sending it to Canon.

11th September 2012: I received as SMS from Canon saying my camera is ready for collection.
12th September 2012: I drive to their headquarters in Paremba Square again to collect my camera. The camera is not replaced, only the optical system inside it. The few scratch marks on my LCD screen is still there. I asked if the lens error will happen again, they say it's unlikely as they improved the repair process. Even if it does I can always bring back for a free repair.

Anyway, after the repair my S100 is working better than ever. Autofocus is somehow faster and crisper. HOPEFULLY it will not happen again.

I just caught "Lens Error" bug on my S100 from yesterday's morning shoot (it was raining, but under shaded cover).

Now have to go to Peremba Square for the repair sad.gif

Me too miss out this issue due to MADE IN JAPAN camera. It was the last thing I expect it to happen as I own a Ixus 220 that perform so well and a A550 that I used for from 2008 that take great photo yet cost much less. I was expecting the camera should last about two years as we tend to replace it by then but this shit happen. Once during warranty and after warranty - Canon say repair will cost me RM630/=! I say forget it man. Bye bye.

Today my Powershot S100 just had the 2nd Lens Error (lens cannot be retracted) since the 1st repair back in Nov/Dec 2012 (2 years and it's still broken). Again it could high humidity in autumn Osaka.

Going to bring to Osaka Service Center if they can repair within the same day or at very least to retract the lens first.
