4th March 2012: Purchased camera in CamWorld, IOI Mall. 24th July 2012: Was watching a football game at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, and the lens error message appeared. Pressed the On/Off button and everything worked fine again. 28th August 2012: Was taking a stroll in the park at night and the lens error message appeared again. This time the lens cannot be retracted, just like in the YouTube video above. 29th August 2012: Sent it for repair at Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. at Peremba Square, Shah Alam.
I have also posted about my experience on the dpreview forums:

So I'm an S100 user residing in Malaysia (hot and humid place). I bought my camera in the 4th of March, 2012. Was a happy consumer. My camera's serial number was within the 'could be affected' range.
On the 24th of July, 2012, I was in a football stadium watching a game when I first saw the lens error message. A press of the power button solved it, and the camera functioned back to normal. I ignored the event.
The next time I saw the message was on the 28th of August, 2012. I was in a park at night, and the lens error was in full force. This time the lens really could not retract, and when I hit the power button...
Lens Error Will shut down automatically Restart camera
I am sending it to Canon's "Corporate Head Office, Showroom & Service Centre" first thing in the morning tomorrow. Good thing it's not terribly far away from where I live.
Will keep it posted on this thread.

So I just came back from the Canon place. Sat down and talked with the woman at the counter.
Here's a summary of our conversation.
1) It'll take a minimum of 10 working days to fix it. Then I'd have to go back there and collect it. Delivery would cost 30 MYR. (10 USD)
2) The defected part inside will be replaced, not repaired.
3) I asked for the camera to be replaced with one that is without the 'affected' serial number. Not possible.
4) I asked if they could guarantee that the same error will not happen again after the repair. They couldn't guarantee.
5) I asked how many S100 lens error cases they have handled. About 50, she said.
6) I said out of those cases, how many came back to repair it for a second time. About 2, she said.
Am really NOT assured about the whole thing. Any thoughts?
I posted it here because I wanted to know if any Malaysian S100 owners had the same problem and what they did to fix it. So please share your experiences if you have the same problem with your S100!

Yes i already facing twice and i send it back to service center..i'm still waiting the post to me back...thanx for bring this issue up...i think i can guarantee u it will happen again if u already facing once...i dunno what is the solution..but i'm getting tired to sending the camera again and again only with short duration time..
My first issue happen on march this year and it happen again early August...too bad i dun have raya pix...damn..
It's worth mentioning that when I went to the service centre, they said they've improved the rectifying process of the lens error.
Instead of repairing the defected parts, they said now they'll now replace the defected parts. Hopefully this means no more lens error, and no more hassle of sending it to Canon.
well they did replace the defect product for my first time i facing the issue..but after few month it happen again..so it still give difficult time to us to sending back to repaired..
11th September 2012: I received as SMS from Canon saying my camera is ready for collection. 12th September 2012: I drive to their headquarters in Paremba Square again to collect my camera. The camera is not replaced, only the optical system inside it. The few scratch marks on my LCD screen is still there. I asked if the lens error will happen again, they say it's unlikely as they improved the repair process. Even if it does I can always bring back for a free repair.
Anyway, after the repair my S100 is working better than ever. Autofocus is somehow faster and crisper. HOPEFULLY it will not happen again.

Me too miss out this issue due to MADE IN JAPAN camera. It was the last thing I expect it to happen as I own a Ixus 220 that perform so well and a A550 that I used for from 2008 that take great photo yet cost much less. I was expecting the camera should last about two years as we tend to replace it by then but this shit happen. Once during warranty and after warranty - Canon say repair will cost me RM630/=! I say forget it man. Bye bye.
Today my Powershot S100 just had the 2nd Lens Error (lens cannot be retracted) since the 1st repair back in Nov/Dec 2012 (2 years and it's still broken). Again it could high humidity in autumn Osaka.
Going to bring to Osaka Service Center if they can repair within the same day or at very least to retract the lens first.
