Hi Everyone
Nice to know there are so many happy owners out there

I've owned a new 408 turbo the last one month or so
Why I bought this car is a very interesting if you all want to know is because of the passive safety features like the IC inflatable curtain airbag front and back in the event of a side impact, and NCAP safety rating of five even though it is a China NCAP rating

having owned several European cars in the past, I have found in the first instance that there are several issues that make this car stand out (DISSAPOINTINGLY) in terms of build quality...

1) No sump cover ie when you look down into the engine bay you see the ground below
This is obviously not what Peugeot intended, the sump guard protects the engine from obstacles and things lying on the road as well as maintai the aerodynamics of the car since the underside of the car can create a lot of turbulence and instability of the car at high speeds and affect fuel consumption too. and is a standard item in continental cars

2)Lack of undercoat below.... There are bare metal (paint covered) non undercoated panels below

3)Non adaptive nature of the 6 speed gearbox whih only changes gears at predetermined speeds not according to load making a Euro Star 5 emission engine very thirsty , I am comparing to my 12 year old CLK 230 supercharged Mercedes 5 speed auto which changes gears according to load and gives better fuel economy than this 408 despite weighing 300 Kg more.... I say non adaptive because the 1st gear changes to 2nd always at the same speed which is when the central locking locks the car// The gear change doesnt take advantage of the low end torque at all and if you choose sport mode its even more ridiculous, I will complain about this during my first service. All other gears change at predetermined speeds also, the most annoying is waiting for the gear to change to 4th which occurs at a ridiculous 2600 rpm when engine is warm, really annoying, usually end up swithing to tiptronic and changing manually

4) funny looking round sticker used to close up a metal hole in the front passenger door sills, really Chekai looking and will probably start leaking in time ( can buy a 50 cents rubber seal in spare part shops too.... just tell them the hole diameter and they will give you one )

5) Very bad "BUMP STEER" Ive heard a lot of complaints in the 308 about this and what it means is that the car steering tends to jerk when you hit a bump> I found it in the 3008, the 5008 and the 308 which all share the same suspension, the 407 and the 508 dont suffer from this very annoying occurence, I feel that there may be a problem with the wheel offset fitted to these models rather than the actiual suspension, will try to find out if Peugeot france has similar problems/ complaints but unfortunately, 408 isnt even on their european Website... maybe have to try DONG FENG China??? assembly

Definite PRO
Engine and Torque amazing, all those Altis and CIVIC owners keep seeing the flat torque peugeot take them without any problems, pity them !!!

Conclusion
Still a happy owner who wants to see improvement biggrin.gif

Well sorry to sound so negative but I am definitely not as unlucky as the guy whose car "broke down" 10 times
but i feel Nasim has to do a better job to really win the market with a car that has so much more potential, dont do the ching Chai Malaysia boleh bullshit, which we have all had enough of........................

I must commend you on being able to write such an unbiased report on your car. Its rare we get such openess. But yes i agree with you. Peugeot have some really good cars but they really need to step up their game if they wanna compete against the likes of VW and the Japanese.

Although me no peugeot the owner, but thanks for the unbiased review. I sat in the 407 a couple of times, the suspension crashes as well in potholes and some rough patches here and there overall its a very comfortable and stable car on high speeds.

tested 407 and 308thp back to back.

407 definitely has better handling. and the 4speed gb is not bad.

308thp no doubt the acceleration is notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

No doubt, 407 and 408 are in different segments. Most people compare these two simply due the price factor. Frankly although the 408 is in C segment,is more classy, more spacious, more power and much better feedback feel at the steering wheel(turbo model )than the D segment brethren.

I wrote some time back how 408 has practically killed the used 407 market. Who would pay $90k for a 3 year old 407 with no warranty when you can get brand new 408 with 5 year warranty, for $20k extra. The 20k margin narrows when you factor higher finance on used car.

Different segments yes, but finally, it's about value for money and how much one is willing to part with.

The 408 is classier than the 407? Don't feel so.... Spacious than the 407? Is it true?

Take a look at both cars for yourself. I was negotiating for a 2009 407, final price 90k. That same week the 408 was announced at 110k. So I have had a good look and test driven both cars.

407's interior is dated. Btw 09 is the facelift model, with interior changes. To compare cabin space, you have to see it for your self.

From the outside the 407 got better looks, but in power, steering feel, interior style and space, the 408t wins hands down!

Just don't kid yourself you're buying a 'premium' car, it's definitely not one in Europe that's the domain of German makes. Then you'll be ok.

Peugeot is far far from being a big premium market player, they are the Koreans of Europe

Just don't kid yourself you're buying a 'premium' car, it's definitely not one in Europe that's the domain of German makes. Then you'll be ok.

Peugeot is far far from being a big premium market player, they are the Koreans of Europe

Peugeot is and was, never intended a premium car. If you think the Greman marques are trouble free, then you're in for a shocking surprise!

Audi yes, their products are top quality, the staff are expected to lick the floor clean after each day.

VW is slightly above peugeot but still not the domain of audi

you do know that VW ownes Audi right? And Audi are the luxury marque while VW targets the more mainstream market?

comparing VW to Audi is like comparing Toyota to Lexus or Nissan with Infiniti

VW brand itself worth much more than Audi itself.. anyway.. all under VW group...

just like Lexus... the turn over are much smaller compare to Toyota brand itself...

i believe he is talking about brand perception, like how Lexus is the superior of Toyota and how Toyota & Honda is the superior of Proton. you get the drift right?

That day my 407 jacked up for oil change , after looking at the suspension front n back I realize how much effort the french put in to car .

yeah my ex 407 got very solid front double wishbone suspension.. just make sure dun have anything spoil... last time they changed the shocks under warranty due to leaking, FOC, but i recon labor would cost a bomb if it's out of warranty cos need to open up the complex suspension just to change shocks..

If they already makan the Japs why does Kia's "K" made to look like an "L" prabably some owners think the will be mistaken for Lexus HAHA
Food for thought Bro.........Actually Japan no more relies on car sales as a main source of their national income they are moving more into Robotics, supercomputers and a bunch of other stuff so you are right in saying they ( the Koreans) probably will put their best effort into their cars for example look at the shapes of the new Sonata and Kia saloon space age design concepts dont you think, compared to the drab looks of the camries and the accords....
