I did a quick comparison with the D and G, one obvious changes are the contrast rendition. The G are more punchy than the D while at wide open, the G have better clarity and sharpness compare to D. I have yet to try the D in low light but obviously the G have an advantage on the focusing with AF-S. Its entirely on your budget, personally, I would get the G
