hi a pic spam from me with my J1, very satisfied with the output in a very dim lighting condition and shooting with ISO3200. PP'ed with LR, level adjusted quite a bit but kept others minimal. very satisfied with the color and white balance, didn't adjust anything except add wee bit of vibrancy and clarity. biggrin.gif

so isit recommended? J1? hw much isitt?
*
dunno recommended or not but for the price i paid (single pancake lens lightly below RM1350) i'm not sure what i want more from this camera yet, but maybe different story if i paid the price when it first launched. suits a casual shooter very well and with room to upgrade when specific lens is desire, i'd say it's a compact camera with good quality output but you can change the lens. biggrin.gif

to me i find that it's dead easy to use, i left virtually everything auto in A mode, ISO100-3200 auto and adjust aperture to taste. since the ISO3200 has enough quality for web or digital viewing so i don't really see the need to manually set the ISO unless you're critical about the image quality and want to make large print (but then you would be looking at different camera already).

QUOTE(amduser @ Aug 30 2012, 12:56 AM)
good thing about small sensor is their large depth of field can take close up of food without blurring the food
*
true but at the same time small sensor also screaming "where is my bokeh??!?" lol, waiting for Nikon to release fast prime lens but seems like the latest rumors only indicating f1.8 instead of the much more anticipated f1.4. hmm.gif

no need bokeh la.
even with f/1.4 on the 1-series, the comparable bokeh on FX is almost f/4, use it more for low light capabilities tongue.gif
*
true also, since high ISO on the 1 inch isn't that good compared to DX and FX anyway, so f1.4 will help tremendously on the low light, especially needed for low light video. biggrin.gif

then again, if got FX f4 equivalent i'm very happy already, i thought FX f1.4 quite a bit overkill so not really want that much of bokeh. biggrin.gif

Added on August 30, 2012, 10:40 amanother pic spam, learning PP with LR. trying to give more oomph to a pretty dull looking picture with bland lighting. hmm.gif

if i want to present the restaurant for promotion purpose yes i'll keep the color cooler, but i present it as a snapshot of my experience and what i saw then i just leave it as close as what i saw as possible. biggrin.gif

Which resto was this mate? Rakuzen? Looks good la
*
nope, it's a pretty new restaurant "Mitasu" at Central Plaza, between the Wendy's and Standard Charted Bank along Jalan sultan ismail. not cheap and more similar to rakuzen, but their imported fresh stuffs are very good and better than some other more expensive restaurant I dined. though I haven't dine at rakuzen though so I'm not sure how they compared...hmm.gif

pleasuresaurus - give it a try, if you fancy sashimi or sushi, their raw fish stuffs really fresh and taste great and to me that's what i'll order again next visit. remember to go at tues or fri if possible, those are the days when they import the raw stuffs (in fact, same for every other japanese restaurant including Rakuzen). other than that most other dishes are very well prepared and cooked. biggrin.gif (highly recommend the one pictured below - Salmon Mentai Maki, the taste is...heaven!!)

Everdying/Agito - lol! laugh.gif

KTCY - OK points taken, guess I can't please everyone! but i still find that dark room analogy isn't a particularly good one or else all my shots look much darker than they are. laugh.gif

this one looks better? hmm.gif

Andy - yup i like warmer output but that's also because people will feel more comfortable dining in warm lighting, and that's what i took most of the time though as i'm a food hunter of sort. but if the original scene isn't too cool to begin with, i won't pump the color like those i just posted. maybe more like below (although posted before, just repost again along with the original biggrin.gif).

@little ice : you bump the ISO very high ?
*
i left it auto 100-3200,, and despite choosing iso2800 (only that pork and sausage) by the camera, im getting shutter speed of 1/15 and still looks underexposed, bumped the ev quite a bit in post. it was quite dim actually. when will Nikon come out with fast prime? hmm.gif

Btw after using j1 for some time, I must confess I finally photography-poisoned lol. now craving for something better and eyeing on the om-d now due to the size and performance and the lens choice. still quite a lot of money though... sweat.gif

Using ISO 2800 is a very daring action for Nikon 1 camera. Even DSLR user, dare not push to that high, except D7000 and FF user rolleyes.gif
And a 2.7x crop camera, push to that laugh.gif
*
why choose high iso? no choice. and why not? blurred shot or noisy image, I choose noisy image. tongue.gif

nikon 1 format finally receive a fast prime lens, 18.5mm (50mm FX) f1.8 doesn't seems give me underwhelming impression as it was initially, and only for $190 means will be around RM600 or less when it hit the street in malaysia, not a bad price after all. biggrin.gif

(waiting for some look-down comments on CX formats... tongue.gif)
