Need comment from you guys regarding the focus point of this image below.

I'm using 17-35 with D600. The image is straight from the camera, uploaded into Flickr.

I'm not sure either my lens are the one that have soft focus issue or my hand that is shaking badly. But I think my hand steady enough. sweat.gif icon_question.gif

Should I send the lens to Nikon for recalibration?

Thanks all for the replies. I've some ideas on what's happening though. I guess overall not the lens issue. It's a learning curve for me to improve my skills smile.gif

For D600, the JPEG picture control, the default sharpness setting should be very low or 0 right?
Not sure what previous camera you use, but entry level usually have higher sharpness settings, if not wrong, setting of 7?
Yes you're right. I'm coming from D300 and the sharpness setting is at 7 while the D600 is defaulted at 3. Thanks for the highlight.

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Oct 4 2012, 02:50 PM)
As for focus, if you're from APS-C moving to FF, you might need to get used to the more shallow DOF.
I guess this is something that I need to readjust, my skills. 2.8f on crop sensor def a lot less compare to what I have come to now with FF.

QUOTE(ifer @ Oct 4 2012, 02:52 PM)
the cat photo looks fine.
the street photo looks fine too (distortion is like that for wide angle)
the 3rd photo has a slight camera movement blur if i am not mistaken. kinda hard to see from this size
*
It looks fine to me when viewing as a whole pictures. When pixel peeping that get me worried. Maybe because I've seen too many test shot on tripod.

QUOTE(ongdennis @ Oct 4 2012, 02:59 PM)
the std picture control sharpness for D7000 and D600 is 3.
i heard the D700 has 7 also.

so first day when i get my camera also do this setting first.

Thanks!

Upgrade to bigger sensor + MUCH higher megapixel need to adjust for the more shallow DOF and more sensitive.

Just like when using a compact, upgrading to a DSLR, the DOF can be a challege to overcome (also experience and learning curve) especially when using large aperture lens.

As for MP, just like what you experience, when you view the whole picture, it looks fine, but as you zoom further, you will see more. For high MP, even slight movement can affect it.
Even D7000 with 16MP, there's some photographers facing issues with camera shake and need to shoot at faster shutter speed as it seems to be more sensitive.

Same goes to mobile phones, back then only 2MP, now there is 12MP; and 38MP on the 808 PureView.
Using the 808 PureView, shooting at 38MP is a challenge to get sharp and steady shot, but when shooting at 8MP or lower, you have far lesser issue to get sharp image.
*
True! Maybe I should not peep on the pixel too much sweat.gif

Film seems like fun, but I think it's kind of expensive to buy the film and develop it. My finance minister sure will mad.

I still remember last time during primary school, curi-curi dad's camera and buy own film to take photo at school. LOL.

Here another test shot taken after work today. Went for a short walk around KLCC park looking around for nice subject. Luckily got some nice people let me take their photo.

Critics are much appreciated

I think it was ken crockwell who said this...calling the d600 slow is like saying its the slowest ferrari...either way its still a ferrari.
Plus How many of u truly will make use of quick af? u certainly don't need it for the kind of portraits like pc fair tongue.gif

even for me who comes from d300 do feel that the focussing a bit slow and clumsy. during my outdoor shoot test last week, my d600 tends to hunting for the focus.

I don't know. Maybe because it's going dark around dawn. And maybe my experience with d300 last time don't go to that extreme.

bored. spam. wish I have more time to shoot. really impressed with d600. def worth the price point. it's a no brainer for people who want to wait the price going down further while they actually can enjoy it NOW.

my 17-35 seems like having back focus when want to focus on object that is more than 2m in distance. it doesn't have that problem when close in proximity. what should I do?

last night i'm tinkering with camera AF Fine Tune settings for my 50mm 1.4.

The result is outstanding. I never see it that sharp. It's off by +15!!

Everyone should do AF Fine Tune if you thought your lens is soft.

Next to tune my 17-35 that has soft back focus issue.

Wahhh.. all people in here so rich.. If not d800, it's d4 then. What kind of job you people working as?

QUOTE(MrAkay @ Nov 8 2012, 01:44 PM)
wah +15 is really alot man. both my lenses got abit of problem. i just sent my 85 to nikon for front focus issue, i guess my other lens i will do myself.. when i have time lah  biggrin.gif
*
To my surprise as well. Please do so for your other lens fast2. If not always look at the photo and cursing for the sharpness. Btw, how much do they quote for lens correction on your 85?

this kind of photo is flawed on DOF and the missing details under the controller.
*
Could you explain in details what you mean by flawed DOF?

I agree lost of details under the controller. Only using my living room florescent light and sofa.

Been thinking to get light tent for proper lighting.

Any recommendation of light source aside from flash/strobe unit? Or any of forumer setup to share?

the controller buttons are out of focus, they're the most essential part when highlighting a controller.

Oh, thanks! Just notice it. If you don't point it out, I might not know forever.
